Crown Plaza hotel, ’nuff said. The décor is far past its prime, and the chairs are poor quality for $ 50 a la carte steaks. Been a long time since I noticed substandard décor in a chain restaurant. Both the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes tasted frozen/pre-prepared. The hot plate caused the 16 oz ribeye to spatter grease on my dress shirt. I don’t see the necessity for a 500° serving plate, as I had to wait for the steak to cool down. This was my first Ruth’s Chris and I’ll definitely choose Capital Grille or Morton’s next time.

Let me begin this review by saying that both my husband and I are fantastic home cooks and have high expectations for food quality. Making a reservation was not a problem at all and when we arrived we were seated quickly. As soon as we were shown our table, I asked the hostess if we could possibly be seated away from the door. There were only three or four tables with anyone seated so I figured I would ask. The server said that this would not be possible so I took my seat. Many of those tables away from the door remained empty for 15 to 20 minutes and when people were seated there, They were couples just as we were so I’m not quite sure why we could not have been seated there. Our service was very nice and attentive and the waiter did a great job of both asking and answering questions. It is not his fault the quality of food and drink we were served. First let me begin with the cocktail — my husband ordered their thai margarita –about $ 14. He had asked the server about the drink and the server admitted he had never tasted it but that it was popular drink so my husband ordered it. The drink was absolutely awful. It was so overwhelmingly sweet I told my husband and it reminded me of canned frozen limeade concentrate. He did tell the server that it was too sweet and the drink remained unconsumed on The table until the end of the meal. At that price, most restaurants would have offered to make something else, but no offer was made and the drink was on the bill. We both had the petite filet which was nicely sized and presented well. I had ordered it medium rare and my husband ordered medium. His steak was way redder than mine so obviously one of our steaks was not cooked correctly. They were both OK, but not tender like I have experienced at Ruth’s Chris before and really nothing special. We make better steaks at home on the grill — not a Brag– just the fact. It was not bad but it was certainly not a $ 40 steak. We had ordered the potatoes gratin to share. The portion size was fine but we also did not finish this dish as it was fairly bland and tasted like mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese melted on top. Very little other seasoning was discernible. The bread that was served with the meal was quite nice and the bread was warm and the butter soft. We had bread pudding with whiskey sauce for dessert and this dessert was really not good at all. It tasted almost exactly like those cinnamon pecan pinwheels that you can buy at a grocery store six for a dollar wrapped in cellophane. They didn’t look that way — presented nicely — but a very average taste. The sauce did not have much taste either. Our total bill with tip was $ 120 and it was not even close to being worth that. I have eaten at Ruth’s Chris before and this meal did not even come close to meeting my expectations or my memories of this restaurant. Again, the staff was attentive and service fast — but the food is what you come to a restaurant for and the steak and dishes were not as good as you would find at lower range restaurant, like outback. I was very disappointed in this meal and apologized to my husband several times for suggesting it. ** in response to the managers question we dined on Friday, January 8, 2016

We had Christmas dinner here and it was awesome. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the sides were excellent, and the service was great! We spent about $ 75 per person, but it was well worth it.

First, I want to share what a hassle it was to get the reservation due to a party of 8 near Christmas. The host stated he could not take my reservation because someone else handled parties. I stated three times that we were not a party, merely family getting together after the Mannheim Steamroller concert. Finally, after a text message and another phone call my reservation was accepted. We arrived promptly at 6:00 to a rather light crowd for dinner with the exception of a private party. Water arrived and then requests for beverages; bread arrived, we all then placed our orders… we sat… sat…sat, then the server wanted to know if she could server the two appetizers with the salads. we agreed. Then one party spilled a water glass. NObody came to attend to the table neither was there another glass of water poured. Salad/appetizers arrived within 45 minutes, with no additional water pours. We waited an hour for our entrees. three steaks undercooked/overcooked-tough, mine was rare, but I did not return. just quit eating. We then had to wait for the other food to arrive. One party was satisfied while the other received what looked like a piece of sirloin, cut into… and over cooked! Then came the bills, a grand total of almost 900! We questioned the server as to why some charges were not removed due to the quality, food not eaten. Nothing… wait,…wait. We then questioned the manager. She stated she was aware of the food complaints but not of the wait time. She stated she would readjust the bills… she asked, How many live in the area? Really? we waited another half hour! I asked the server if they restaurant was under staffed… she replied, No, I do not think so! Well, I saw her as I went to restroom texting on her phone in the back! Well, the manager finally did arrive and said«Merry Christmas» ! I will comp your bill. Well, two parties did not accept and paid their bills less 18.00 and a 50 gift card. Two took her offer with a nice tip left. It took 3 hours 15 minutes to leave. will NEVER eat there again and advise others to avoid when we have Rick Erwins, Chophouse Steak House, and another national brand coming to town!

I love this restaurant! Great atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. On top of it all, their customer service is top notch. So many companies today have lost sight of what excellent customer service is, and after a recent meal was not up to their usual standard, Ruth’s Chris and manager Kirk proved that they absolutely have not. We will certainly be back!

OMG my experience at this restaurant was an ABSOLUTE train wreck. First I would like to point out that I am not new to Ruth’s Chris. I have a place down at the beach, so we go to the Ocean City, MD location all summer. I have also been to this Greenville, SC location over the last few years(when visiting family in the area) and received great food. The service has been attentive but never is anything to write home about(which is fine as long as the food is good). But this year… OMG… We ate there on November 24th. There had been a truck accident on the bridge near our hotel and the surrounding businesses including our hotel, the Crowne Plaza,(and Ruth’s Chris) lost power. We were told everything was closed but walked downstairs to check out Ruth’s Chris anyway. They were still open, running on generators. The hostess seated us and we ordered our meals. After bringing us drinks the waiter told us we were lucky because we would be the last ones to be served food. Lucky? Our dining experience that evening was anything but lucky; it was almost comical with everything that went wrong. I actually may have found humor in it if I wasn’t handed a $ 230 check at the end of my visit. The restaurant was pretty dark, only operating on half lighting and was smoky(I guess the exhaust fans didn’t work either) but tolerable at first. When we got our food it was NOT up to Ruth’s Chris normally delicious standards. The sides were great as always but my steak was overcooked and not served sizzling with butter and my husband and son said their chicken wasn’t as good as usual. While eating, the smoke around us increased and the smoke alarms and strobe lights started going off. The alarms lasted probably about 5 – 10 minutes. No one said anything to us about evacuating or anything so we continued eating. The smoke alarms stopped when they opened up the front doors but the strobe lights continued flashing for 15 – 20 minutes more which was highly annoying. Due to the open doors it was now a tad less smoky but freezing cold inside. Then the power went totally off(we found out later they had shut off the generators to restore regular power, a head’s up would have been nice) so we sat in complete darkness for about 5 – 10 minutes. My son used his iPhone flashlight for us to continue eating. We sat there shivering and finally asked if they could please close the doors because it was so cold. As soon as the power came on a different waiter brought us the bill(he told us that our first waiter, Josh, apparently left??) stating he didn’t want to rush us but wanted to make sure we got the bill in case the power went out again. Seriously? What this said to me was that all they were worried about was collecting their money in case the power went out again, NOT our comfort or experience. Then a few minutes later this waiter came back to tell us that management now decided to close the restaurant for the night so he wanted to collect our payment. I asked to speak to a manager at this point and the waiter pointed him out and said he would send him over. I then had to ask for my dessert which was apparently forgotten in their rush to close up. We were never even offered take out boxes for the rest of our food! I just was in complete and total shock at the utter lack of consideration and the poor customer service. I mean our bill came to $ 227.46 plus we left«only» a $ 40 tip. For almost $ 300 one would think that service would be stellar and the food excellent. I understand that there were extenuating circumstances but then maybe the restaurant should have been closed instead of remaining open to offer substandard service and food. During the whole evening the manager was walking around talking to some of the other patrons, but never came to our table. Had I been the manager I would have been making my rounds to each table apologizing and offering free drinks or money off the check or SOMETHING. Instead he appeared to be too interested in talking and laughing with people he knew. Then after I had asked to speak with him he disappeared to the back and I never saw him again. My husband and I were so angry and upset at this point that we decided to leave and contact the corporate office instead of potentially causing a scene. This experience really tarnished the whole Ruth’s Chris brand for me. I still can barely believe this actually happened! I do not think we should have paid a dime for this experience. So I sent a letter to Ruth’s Chris(basically a rehash of everything above) and received a phone call from the manager. He apologized and promised to make it right. 2 weeks later I received 2– $ 50 gift cards in the mail. Seriously? For a $ 300 meal and the crap experience of a lifetime??? I found that to be a slap in the face and highly offensive. He should have reversed the charges on our meal PLUS sent us a gift card. What a joke! I’ve been treated better at fast food joints…

This Ruth Chris seems to b a little more pricey than the other but the food was great and consistent with all the other Ruth Chris’. Service was good as well. I sat at the bar and the drinks were on point as expected.

Sometimes you just have to have a steak. I’d just flown into town and got together with a long time friend for dinner and we headed to where we knew it’d be perfect. Lucky for us our server, Stephanie, was very knowledgeable, very friendly, and her service was outstanding! The food was incredible. My petite filet that I ordered Pittsburgh style came out PERFECT! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I’ll go back!

We started with the blue crab cakes and ended with the Cream brûlée. We had the porterhouse for two, potatoes au gratin, asparagus with hollandaise, sautéed mushrooms and every single bite was impeccable! Pricey? Yes but worth every penny and we will go again. Every steak we have from this point on will be hard to beat to Ruth’s Chris Steak!

Over all I give it five stars. The staff was friendly welcoming and knowledgeable of the menu. The décor was classic and upscale w/smooth blues and jazz playing at a pleasant volume. The bathrooms were clean and just as classy as the rest of the joint. You are served a french baguette with butter. We started with the scallop appetizer. 3 pan seared scallops cooked perfectly and seasoned well $ 17 I had the mixed grill: lump crab cake, filet, & stuffed chicken. The crab cake was a little fishy for my liking, the steak was prepared and seasoned well, and my favorite was the stuffed chicken. It was deliciously seasoned and had a wonderful scold. $ 37 Hubby had the cowboy: bone in ribye was huge and cooked to perfection $ 51 The sides were served family style: garlic mash potatoes: tasty 8.50, sautéed mushrooms: yummy 9.50, spinach au gratin: FABULOUS! 9.50 I topped the dinner off with a chocolate mousse cheesecake: superb! $ 156 meal. Look forward to returning and trying some other menu items

Excellent food, great table in an alcove. Very private setting, wonderful meal. The Mgr, Megan couldn’t be more helpful or professional and David Barkman, our server was outstanding! We’ve had many meals at this celebrated restaurant and ask for David each time. You can’t go wrong here if you’re looking for the best steak available!

Ruth’s Chris is still a very good steak house, but it’s not as good as it used to be. I’ve eaten in Ruth’s Chris from White Plains, NY to Tampa, FL, and at this one before too. First, the service is good, but a little slow. The server had excellent knowledge of the menu and made good recommendations. However, he was spread a little too thin, between serving a table with a large group of men, our table of two, and at least one other table with a small group. We were left waiting between courses of our meal. For some reason Ruth’s Chris has started cutting into the cuts of meat. My wife had a filet and I had a ribeye, and both had deep cuts into the meat which allows juice to ooze out and results in a drier less tasty steak. My wife said her steak was OK, but mine was a little tough and more chewy, which I’m not used to in a Ruth’s Chris steak. Usually, they are fork tender and moist and very delicious. Lastly, Ruth’s Chris has greatly downsized their side dishes over the years without of course downsizing the price. Desserts were as good as ever. Frankly, I’m not used to the server soliciting online endorsements at the table. For what should be a first class restaurant, that’s just unnecessary. He gave good service, and he was tipped well. Thank you very much.

Awesome evening… complimented by an awesome meal and awesome service. Our steaks were prepared as ordered. The sides were savory and brought to the table in a timely manner and and presented well. Desert was savory and the French press coffee was a pleasant surprise. Service with a smile from Stephanie

We knew it was going to be pricey before going, so that wasn’t a big factor for us. My wife and I ordered two different steaks so we could try them both, the fillet and the ribeye. We both thought the fillet was outstanding(and it was the petite, so it wasn’t too exspensive and it was plenty of meat, in our opinions), but we thought the ribeye was just good. And by «just good» we mean very tastey, but not really worth the price, relative to other places. However, two people could split the ribeye easily! That would give you a good steak and keep the overall price somewhat reasonable. The service was great. We had the au gratin potatoes and let’s just say we won’t be ordering those again. We would like to go back, but it’ll be a special occasion type place for us, due to the prices.(Please don’t judge my spelling. I don’t think there’s spell check for this review and I’m not a good speller! LOL! Thx!)

Thank you for reaching out to me and addressing the issues that occurred that night. The mark of a good restaurant and a good manager is what you do after an issue. As I said in my review, the food was very good and we will be back to give you another try. Thank you again.

I would prefer 2.5, but 2 it is! The service was good, the young adults well mannered for the most part. However my meal was not up to par. I had the trio and the chicken was dry, the steak was how I wanted it and the crab cake, although good was not all lump meat. When there is a steakhouse downtown that hasn’t failed me yet Ruth Chris needs to be on point.

I have been to a few Ruth Chris’s in different parts of the country. So I feel as if I can compare this to the others as a standard. First of all I want to say that the wait staff was wonderful. Our waiter and absolutely a gem. Not only did he have a great personality but he was well versed in the menu. My partner had never been there before so he gave her the quick rundown. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer. They were proper temp when they came out and you could taste and see the chunks of crab meat. The only hitch was when the kitchen brought us out a second order by mistake. Our waiter laughed at that and joked how he hoped it wouldn’t be the standard for the evening. When our steaks came out they were as they should be. Both were sizzling on a 500 degree plate with butter oozing everywhere. Both the filet and the ribeye were tender and juicy and flavorful. We also ordered garlic mashed and broccoli au gratin to go with it. The garlic mashed are the best I’ve ever had anywhere and the broccoli was fresh. While we were eating our meal a runner came to our table with someone else’s entrees. He quickly found the right table luckily for the other couple and we continued our meal. Our waiter quickly came over and apologized once again but I knew they were busy since it was Valentine’s Day weekend and mistakes like that are not his fault. For dessert we ordered a crème brûlée to share and once again it did not disappoint. The custard was creamy and flavorful and fruit on the side was fresh. Overall a great experience. The reason for the 4 stars is there were two mistakes from the back as well as a price increase within the last 6 months. I would have given it four and a half if possible. We will be going back.
