I stopped in here to refuel the rental car before returning it to Hertz at nearby Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport(GSP). This Spinx is right off the interstate(I-85). There are three other gas stations off this exit as well(Marathon, Citgo, and Sunoco) — but Spinx is the closest to the Airport. Paid at the pump with a credit card, refueled, but the Pump(Pump #2) would not issue me a receipt. It came up with an error message instructing to go inside to get a receipt. Which I did. Inside — Spinx has your usual convenience store goods: bottled water and sodas, snacks, toiletries, and other travel necessities. This Spinx is physically connected on the inside to a Burger King.

Spinx is a chain of gas stations and convenience stores in North and South Carolina. The company is based out of Greenville, SC and its name is a play on the founder’s last name, Spinks, and the company’s original logo, the Egyptian sphinx. The gas stations are easily noticeable from the road because of their bright yellow and blue color scheme. This Spinx is located just off I-85 exit 60(SC101, Woodruff, Greer) in South Carolina. The convenience store has a Burger King inside. There’s also a standalone Waffle House next door. I made a pit stop here this past Thursday night and filled up on premium fuel for $ 3.659 per gallon. This was about 20 cents more expensive than the same octane fuel in metro Atlanta. That was disappointing because South Carolina is supposed to have less expensive gas than Georgia. South Carolina is actually supposed to have some of the lowest fuel costs in the country. The gas station was fine. Labeling on the pumps was clear and they were easy to use. The pump area was brightly lit and felt safe, for the most part. I did like how the paper towels next to the pumps were higher quality than the typical gas station’s paper towels. Spinx’s paper towels were light blue in color and were much tougher than the cheap, thin, brown paper towels you’d normally find elsewhere. The convenience store was run of the mill. Not great, but I’ve seen a lot worse. The Burger King was big, spacious, and empty. The restrooms were clean and satisfactory by gas station standards. Spinx pales in comparison to the new QuikTrips(QTs) that have been popping up nearby. However, in a pinch, it’s alright.
