The Red Palace is a stereotypical, highway-fronted Chinese restaurant(sort of shabby– you know the type). But, the interior does seem to have been renovated as recently as 1991. I ordered the Lunch Special($ 6.75) Mandarin Chicken, which came with good oily(not greasy) shrimp-fried rice, an outstanding egg-roll, and interesting chicken, in the sense of its semi-clear brown sauce, as opposed to the usual opaque, thick gravy. A separate metal vessel of duck sauce was brought to the table(good stuff, too). The only drawback was the slightly-slow service and the fact that the entrée did not come over a bed of lettuce, which I assumed was the norm for Mandarin Chicken. There is easy parking and easy access to U.S. Hwy. 90 Business Route(West Bank Expressway). They also have a separate bar area, which seemed pretty nice. Looked like they had some regulars, hanging out in there. I’d recommend this place and would return. RJT

Shrimp Fried Rice with no eggs. I don’t care for eggs in my rice. I hate it when restaurants precook rather then to order. Big plus… cheap fast and easy to get to the place. Large for $ 7. Lunch and dinner for the week. The smell of the old restaurant is the only problem I have.

First off I pulled up yo the parking lot. I was the only one here at 4:17 pm November 19. I formulated the worst scenario. I perceived the food to be disgusting. I walked in and I was the only one here. I went to the restroom and it was not welcoming. So I judged this place too early and too soon. I feel bad now that I ate this bomb A+ meat meal. The owner greeted me as i walked through the door. It was just me but I feel he is genuinely a nice guy. I asked for an alcoholic beverage«Mai Tai and the bartender fixed it for me a d boy it was good. Now on to the appetizer. The Crab Puff. Mula good!!! It’s so oooooo good. Like goodness in my mouth. Then I asked her for her suggestions and she suggested the meat combination. Totally too much food. Let me tell yall about my bill. I got my Mai Tai, crab puffs, and an meat combination entrée for $ 25.29. #Teamwinning #Icamehere for lunch and left out with dinner! !

My husband and I were craving Chinese food so we googled places and this popped up. The food was excellent and the portions were very large! We had egg drop soup, crab puffs, lemon chicken, and shanghai chicken(aka general tso) and everything was delicious! Stop and eat here you won’t regret it.

My son works on the westbank & loves this place, so we had to give it a try. What a great place! The steak on a stick was so tender, it melted in our mouths. I had the soft shell crab with crawfish which was so fresh and flavorful that I couldn’t stop eating it even though I was full. One of my sons had his favorite General’s Chicken. Since they will often make something not on the menu, my other son asked for Cantonese shrimp. My husband chose the Shanghai Chicken. The homemade sauces for every dish were fantastic, and we had food to take home. We will definitely make the trip across the bridge again to eat there.

The food is okay… However, we were sat next to a very loud tv playing the news. It was about the shooting in Lafayette. I’m here with my family. We requested the tv be turned off… i dont need my 12 yr old afraid of going to the movies or knowing that the shooter hated PORN theatres as well. We will NEVER come back to this place.

Very decent sized lunch portions for a good price!!! The crab Rangoons were quite large and filling. We ordered beef and broccoli and the sweet and sour shrimp. Lo mein was good too! My favorite here were the bbq ribs. Really good customer service.

Westbankers do not know what they are missing. No it’s is not a fancy dress up place to go. Just plain good food. They have the absolute BEST egg rolls! No cabbage, only the best Chinese vegetables, shrimp etc. Real Chinese Food at a great price. For all of you Chinese Buffet fans, there is no comparison. Service is great. There is always space, never crowded for dinner.

I grew up on Red Palace for Chinese food. Their dishes are prepared in a different style than other places. Sweet and sour chicken comes with a homemade sauce, not the signature neon red gel from almost all other joints. Their lunch specials are priced reasonably as well. The pork fried rice is head and shoulders about other places that I have tried.

They did a major remodel of this joint after Katrina and it used to look a LOT more like an actual palace than it does now. This certainly isn’t one of my favorite Asian joints to eat at on the Westbank but it certainly is one of the more interesting. They have an eclectic selection of scary Tiki drinks in notably vintage Tiki glasses. The food is generally unremarkable but isn’t terrible. I occasionally stop in here to eat when in an extreme hurry without time to get to Phở Tau Bay or 9 Roses which is a very rare event indeed…
