I took my son to go eat here and let me tell you. It was ok. Sorta. My son told her to leave off some items and they totally disregarded him and served him a burger he didn’t ask for. The meat is kinda mushy and fries cold and limp. My son says we should try one more time and order something different so we might but i’m not so sure after I got my food which was fish. Mushy fish with a sauce on it that tasted like it was oil and mayo.ugh. I do have to say, itsa good place to get a shake.

Gridley is a small town off of State Highway 99 between Chico(Sierra Nevada Brewing Company) and Yuba City(prune capital of the world). What was I doing in Gridley you ask? Let’s just say my work takes me to a ton of «off-the-grid» places like Gridley(pun-intended). I am a big fan of local restaurants and I use the Unilocal app all the time to find them. Sure, I could have gotten a burger at In-N-Out over in «Prune City», but that over-rated place with burgers made by unhappy pimple-faced high school kids is something that I can get anywhere. Instead, I chose Ice Burgie because I saw a ton of locals in line as I drove by and the reviews seemed legit and not written by the employees and their friends. For starters, Ice Burgie is CASHONLY. So if you show up with no dolla’ dolla’ bills y’all that is a YOU problem. Also, it’s an old-school hamburger stand with outdoor seating and no air conditioning but that is remedied because you can cool down by getting their flavored sodas or their milkshakes that seem to bring all the boys/girls to the yard. Their claim to fame is the Bulldog burger. This burger consists of a meat patty that is grilled-to-order and topped with grilled onions, Thousand Island dressing, cheese, and lettuce that is then sandwiched between two slices of grilled sourdough bread. Since I have been watching my cholesterol, I decided to go for the Bulldog-Lite, which is called the Bullpup(basically half a Bulldog). The burger was greasy and the bread was also greasy. But hell, that is what the soda is for! Moreover, you are at a burger joint not some salad fucking bar like Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes. And you know what? At least the grease tasted like fresh grease unlike 24-hour grease from Ickey D’s down the street. I devoured the Bullpup in a matter of seconds and instantly regretted not getting the full-sized Bulldog. Then again, if I did, I might have succumbed to a major food coma on the drive back home and crashed… which would have meant that I would have been transported back to the nearby Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital(now the Orchard Hospital)… which would not have been too bad since it is a stone’s throw away from the Ice Burgie. Live. Die. RepEAT. So… the burger was really good and the fact that the Ice Burgie(previously known as The Burgie) has been around since the 1950s is proof that these classic burgers have been able to withstand the test of time. Since the burgers are cooked to order, expect to wait a little. However, at the end of the day, isn’t it better to wait for your burger than to have your burger wait for you? That is, unless you are one of the many locals I observed that called in advance! * The best way to park is to enter via the north-adjacent Rite Aid.

Small little hamburger joint. Food is prepared fresh & it’s reasonably priced! Anything on the menu is delicious. The only thing is they have no rest rooms but you can walk to Rite Aide where they have rest rooms. Seating is not that great, but the food is worth the stop.

This has been my favorite burger my whole life! I drive from Roseville to Gridley to get a cheese burger bronze cue style. The Bronze Cue was my favorite burger shop growing up and the Gridley Ice Burgie still makes the best. Eating outside in the hot air on a concrete table is part of the experience.

Well not sure how to say this one but… we live about 50 miles from here. We happen to have a great family physician here in gridley. We make this trip at least three times a month. As a general we always stop & eat here or at least all get milkshakes & cones for kids. Today I was in a hurry & parched from my drive & sent the wife up to window to purchase a simple cup of ice before my dr. Appt… the girl told me we don’t sell ice by the cup? Well, well young lady not only did you not get my dollar for a cup of ice nor will we be stopping for our normal 20 $ lunch on way home. Not today or any of our future passings… huh 711 gave us a free cup with a great smile. Shame on you that’s a few hundred a year you can live without.

I don’t like the burgers so much because they are very greasy and fattening, the fries taste dry, and after eating I don’t like the way I feel … that being said, they do have an awesome Thirsty Thursday and Milkshake Monday. For a small town, this is a unique place because it’s basically for To Go orders and a walk up window to a tiny one room brick building! There is NO indoor seating, they have 3 cement tables in front of the business, very close to Highway 99 which can be quite LOUD from all the traffic and a wooden picnic table in the back. It is directly next to Rite Aid, and there is a good amount of parking. As for the menu, they have Burgers, Chicken strips, Chicken sandwiches, Kids meals, Value meals, Hot dogs, Corn dogs, Tacos, Hot Pastrami, Grilled cheese, Onion Rings, Lots of fried foods here! They also have sodas with crushed ice, Drink flavors, Shakes, Malts, Freezes and Ice cream cones. You can get Chocolate, Vanilla or Swirl. You can ask for a To Go menu and look that over to double check the prices, or just look at the window menu. One thing I do like are Thirsty Thursdays because you can get a 32 ounce drink for 99 cents! The BEST part is the crushed ice!!! I highly recommend trying a Cherry Sprite, it is delicious for a soda! It costs a few cents more to add a flavor.

I’ll say that this place is pretty good not great but pretty good. The sodas and milkshake options are quite cool lots of decisions you can make. Everyday of the week there is a special which is cool ex: Milkshake Monday, taco tuesday. the wait for the food can be horrendous. I’ve waited for upwards of 30 minutes for food sometimes I do understand a few people work they are limited but come on that’s a little to long. I do recommend this place if you are looking for some munchies though very tasty. If you are not feeling so good with a stomach ache or something of the likes do not eat here it is a recipe for disaster in your stomach… all around I’d say it’s good but overrated.

I don’t exactly know how, but this place got worse over the past few years. It’s expensive so you expect good food but I was very disappointed with the chicken strips, chili fries, and burgers I got from there. Either they weren’t cooked enough, cooked too much, or it was rubbery. The chili fries were literally some beans on some fries. No cheese and nothing special. A few years ago, the chicken strips and chili fries were my favorite but it is definetly NOT worth the money now.

Ice burgie is a disgustingly awesome burger joint. After you eat it you feel like something released a grease bomb inside you in the good way. Fries are B+ they have the good slushy type ice and amazing flavor additions to their sodas. In n out doesn’t have anything on the burgie not even close.

Pros: Good hangover food and the gals who worked there are nice Cons: Not very friendly to the health conscious I’m a fan of small joints but this place wasn’t for me. Had a taco, western burger and the Bulldog. The taco had flavor but was dripping in grease; I could feel my arteries clog up. Not too much complaint about the western burger I guess. It was okay. The bulldog — the amount of butter that was slathered on the bread before it was grilled scared the crap out of me. Unique taste I’ll give you that.

Chances are you won’t be visiting Gridley, CA for anything specific so if you happen to be hungry when you pass through this small, one-mile stretch of so-called town on Hwy 99, stop in at Ice Burgie for some pretty respectable burgers. I travel to Chico for work quite a bit and I don’t have a choice but to pass this little joint every time I go. It’s a stereotypical small town burger stand that makes a good greasy tray of food and a damn juicy burger. It’s the kind of place that if you grew up in Gridley you probably worked here or at least you wanted to. It’s a small, old school drive-in style joint made from bricks and the concrete tables out front let you enjoy lunch next to the main strip through town. The menu is standard burger joint fare — burgers, fries, onion rings, shakes, and my favorite… crushed ice. I love me some crushed ice in my soda. I ordered the double cheeseburger with an order of fries and a soda. The burger — thick & juicy, good flavor and ooey, gooey cheese slidin’ over the edges. A little shredded lettuce for garnish, properly placed on the bottom bun acting as a mop layer for the greasy goodness that would otherwise destroy the bun on contact. Fries were nice lil’ shoestring fries, the really thin kind. They didn’t salt the fries but instead they provided a packet of salt in the bag and I thought that was cool. Oh, they’re over-salted? Yeah, that’s your fault. The frying oil could’ve been changed out though — there was bit of a burnt aftertaste with my fries even though they weren’t burnt, just old oil. On the flip side, the crushed ice was absolutely awesome. All of this and my bill was a little over six bucks, unheard of. Their shakes looked hecka good and I kicked myself in the butt down the road for not ordering one so that’s happening next time. Moral of my story — it’s a cool little spot with a tasty little burger in a small little town. It’s cheap, it’s popular and I liked it. The end.

Good, greasy, old school burgers, fries, and lots of yummy milkshake flavors and malts. Gotta love the coffee malted! This is a walk up, sit outside on picnic benches style place.

A true gem off Hwy 99. This little brick establishment has been here since MY parents were in high school~ and apparently, the food and service are just the same;) My pops lives about a block away into town, and since my Aunt is a Diet Coke who-ore, we make it a point to stop by. The have several Torani syrups, so I usually end up with a large(its LARGE!) Styrofoam cup full of crushed ice, DC a shot of vanilla, and a few slices of lemon… heaven. Just last Wednesday, we decided to eat here– it had been quite a while. We placed our order with the sweet woman behind the window(who of course, my dad knows) and in a matter of minutes, we hear our name over the speaker. We sat on the over– carved wooden benches in back(very cool) Everyone ordered a hamburger– with no complaints! 20 bucks for three burgers, a hotdog, small cherry shake and 3 large drinks… my cup of tea. I recommend the jalapeño– possibly the only thing keeping me from becoming a full on vegatraian. cooked to absolute perfection, melty pepper jack, all the fixings– on a very fresh and tasty(potato?) bun. I have a heart-burn just thinking about it… «The Burgie» is a Gridley landmark, and thanks to 99, will probably always stand– There is plenty of fried food, a ton of snacks, drinks– crazy good milk shakes and stellar customer service. Bring cash, and Please try! You wont regret it! I’m hungry :(
