Harvard Grill

This place is a bad version of a Coney Island. Mediocre food and service. The hotdogs were bad and the other food people got looked the same level of quality.

We stopped in for our first Harvard Grill Saturday breakfast after discovering that our favorite joint, 4 Brothers, was closed (hopefully only temporarily!)
It was busy at 11am, but no wait and its ‘seat yourself’. I liked that the crowd was diverse — families of all income levels, ethnicities and ages, which makes me feel a lot more comfortable when venturing into the predominantly affluent/​caucasian Grosse Pointe (it IS right on the border).
The breakfast menu is standard diner-​esque fare — I went with the One Egg Breakfast for $ 5.00. I was able to sub my hash browns for three mini pancakes — cool! My husband did the Two Egg with hash browns. Both come with toast, but I declined mine.
Other than waiting about 10 minutes for our order to be taken, we shared a fairly standard affordable breakfast experience, and we’ll be back again.
They also serve lunch and dinner, and had some sweet lookin’ homemade pies on display! Yum!

Friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. And there is a good chance that the owner Mike Muer will top off your coffee!

It is a pretty standard Michigan coney island/​diner. Food was pretty good, nothing unique. Not worth going out of the way for, but a decent, affordable diner if you’re in the area.

I have been here many times over the years and the food is always hot and great tasting.
Just had a Greek Omelette and two fluffy pancakes.
Excellent as usual.

Fairly cheap, fairly fast. Our waitress was prompt. The food wasn’t great though. Pancakes were undercooked and dense, my hash browns were not even brown. Bacon was thick but dry. The eggs were cooked properly though!

Classic breakfast & lunch place. Atmosphere is no frills. Prices are fair but not cheap. I had the Irish omlette. Not a true omlette with the ingredients inside, but scrmbled eggs with the stuff mixed in. Still tasted good, but not my favorite. SS had the eggs, sausage and hash browns. Hash browns could have been cooked a little more. I like mine a little darker and crunchy! Overall: good food at a fair price.

Really good food and very friendly service. Really like the fact that’s it’s so close to home.

I had a «Build your Own Omelete.» Wife had the corn beef hash. Hers was pretty good mine could’ve been cooked longer. It’s unfortunate when restaurants just throw bacon into eggs and expect the bacon to cook well enough. Kind of grosses me out. Also don’t like it too much when the omelet isn’t cooked through, eggs were running out mid way through the omelet so I just ate around the edge. I don’t know if we will be back…

Good food nice staff i would go back there again. We kept adding things to our order and our waitress was great about it.

The last time I was there, the man at the cash register was sooo friendly– smiled right at me and everything.

Had breakfast here. Tried a corned beef and a veggie omelette. Both were fair, not great. Had a groupon coup, so the whole bill with tip came to $ 10.don“t think I would rush back, unless I had another coupon.

Charming, delicious and close to home. Great breakfast or lunch spot.

My go-​to here is the club sandwich and it always works.
Yes, it is an old Big Boy and nothing has been done to hide that but it doesn’t seem to make a difference on the plate.

Resumed my exploration of the eateries near my new place of employment… this place had a cool look about it. I opted for a greasy omlette, it had Swiss cheese in it, the waitress I believe attempted to talk me out of it for good reason but I was too shellshocked from actually working to heed her warning. I like this place. Their cobb salad is awesome. Nice people and the food is pretty good.

Good honest food at a great price. The greek omlette is very good. Pot Roast special on Thursday with nice chunks of melt in your mouth bites of beef. I give it a 5 star rating because it’s consistant and a great value.

Out-​dated diner décor… no biggie. I went in here thinking I might be pleasantly surprised, sometimes good things are found in odd packages. but eh.
Menu had all sorts of sandwiches and breakfast items. I kind of glazed over the «Chicken Gyro» menu item beneath the regular gyro listing and ordered that. I also glazed over the description but I saw «honey mustard sauce» so I asked him for the «Greek sauce» (their menu words), «cucumber sauce» (my words), a.k.a. «tzatziki sauce» (almost any Greek restaurant menu words) that I saw listed under the regular gyro description instead. No tomatoes, I like my gyros sans tomato. What arrived to me was sort of dry, un-​seasoned grilled chicken breast on top of a super-​doughy pita-​like bread with lettuce and sauce. And, I got a little surprise! A piece of American cheese was beneath everything, I hadn’t noticed it until I got a little deeper in to the sandwich.
To my dismay, there were no onions on it. I guess much of this is also my fault for not reading the full description. But, I beg you, Harvard Grill, please change the name of that thing to something else. «Chicken Gyro» to me = seasoned chunks of chicken with tzatziki sauce, tomato and onion on a pita. «Chicken Pita Sandwich» would be a better name and would alert us gyro-​lovers immediately that something’s different. Looking back, who knows if it originally even comes with the tomatoes that I asked them to nix. That thing was anything BUT a chicken gyro. Hell, I’d have been satisfied if only the chicken had been seasoned some way, but it wasn’t.
The good news is that the place has very reasonable prices, you can get out for under $ 10. If I ever go there again I think I’ll try the breakfast, it looks like what they might specialize more in.
Service was good and friendly, although we were the only people in the place. The manager (owner?) guy even left the TV remote control at our table so we could watch what we wanted, if we wanted…
