Best burger in town! Best salads in town! Best service in town! A must go if you’re in the Grosse Pointe/Detroit area.

If you haven’t tried this place out yet you are seriously missing out! The food is AMAZING. I’ve been here three times and it never disappoints. Their black bean burger is simply delicious. Always cooked to perfection. Their truffle fries are super tasty as well as their sweet potato fries. The wait staff is extremely pleasant and attentive. You always feel welcomed as soon as walking through the door. The manager Meghan is so sweet and kind. Always has a smile on her face and is super friendly. I would definitely recommend giving this place try. You will not be disappointed!

What happened to the professional wait staff? Seemingly replaced by teens who don’t know the difference between boiling and broiling. The experience is seriously diminished.

The lobster ravioli is the best thing on the menu! I’ve tried other items and they were good, but nothing matched this! My vegan husband always gets the veggie burger. He loves it.

I am so torn about this place. I love the food, the atmosphere, the drinks, and the location – but every single time I come here, I get less-than-stellar service. I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and I am MORE than understanding in most scenarios – but to have a server ignore you for 15 minutes, roll their eyes when you ask for another beer, or completely forget about you isn’t great. Not trying to be too harsh – I really do like this place – my fondness comes from the place, the food, and the company with which I share it – not the service I’ve received here. We all have rough days, but nobody wants to feel like a burden when they’re spending money on a nice night out!

Update: I recommend coming here for brunch. I took my mom here for Mother’s day for brunch and it was very delightful. Although you are sitting in close quarters to other patrons, it is worth it. They have a bloody mary bar during brunch which is one of the better ones I have had and the food was delicious. The last time I ate here recently was a Friday evening. If you are looking for a moderate to quite atmosphere, this is not the place. The food was great, as usual, and I had a fantastic red wine to pair with my meal, but it was so loud. When there is a party of people behind you acting like wild animals in a small room with bad acoustics, it is hard to enjoy yourself. Anyway, I would have to say my favorite time time eat here is during lunch!

My girlfriend and I showed up on New Year’s Eve. We knew that wherever we went there was going to be a markup and the place was going to be crowded. Well, to start, the place was half empty, and the waitress sat us down at this tiny two top right by the kitchen, against a wall, with at least 6 empty 4 tops that never filled up the entire time. Now, again, I expected a markup for NYE, but this was ridiculous. $ 55 for 3 Mac and cheese bites, a quarter cup of mushroom soup(barely warm), what they claimed was 8oz of filet mignon(definitely was NOT8oz, was bland and lightly burned), and a desert plate we had to share, despite the fact that we both ordered full meals. Her meal was not much better, with a very bland, burned chicken. I would understand if they were remotely full up, but they weren’t. Only thing this place had going for it was decent service and interesting décor. Not worth a return visit.

Trying to figure out the draw to this place. Here’s what I’m thinking… it’s the décor. Because, what a cool concept. I loved the interior. A repurposed gas station and auto shoppe. Looks great from the outside, and the inside is just as fun. The food was, well, average, with a some of exceptions: fried pickles with green goddess dressing totally rocked, Pulled pork, brisket & burned tops, good. Meatloaf was bland and moist to the point of liquid. Needed salt, and lots of it. My son ordered perch and received over fried, dry, fish and chips. Ribs were overcooked and dry. Way, way way overpriced! Far too expensive for the quality of food. $ 269.00 for 5 adults and 2 kids. Noone drinking alcohol. Red Wings game was on, and we had to ask 3 times, to 3 different people, for them to turn off America’s Funniest Home videos and turn on the Wings game. Really?! Apparently, the dining room TV can interfere with what’s on in the bar area, so they couldn’t put the game in more than one TV. Please, call any IT guy with a middleschool education and they’ll fix that for you! Instead, on a Saturday night in Hockeytown, we had AFV on TV. That’s probably what was most bothersome. Given the choice, we’ll not be heading back to Red Crown again.

We went here for a company dinner. The place is trendy and casual. It is on the smaller side of a medium size space, so keep that in mind as far as when you plan to go. You want a beer, wine, and a good mixed drink. a real drink not like going to a chain restaurant for a drink, to go with the food then go here. About the food. We had the wings, and I had a plate with the ribs, pork, and brisket. The pulled pork was my favorite. Slows still has the best brisket. Ribs… I have to go to Chicago, Tulsa, or Kansas City for 5-star ribs. This is Grosse Pointe so parking is limited. Simply, if you are in the area, it is worth a stop in. Glad GP has at least one somewhat affordable hip eatery. Sick of driving to Royal Oak for good dining. All good here from the wacky remodeled body shop interior, the cold bottle of water & cornbread muffin complimentary starters, to good drink specials(15 $ bottles of wine? yahoo!). Some original entries like the burnt ends brisket, shrimp & grits and the wonderful truffle fries. Never had a bad meal yet– food served HOT as it should be– not lukewarm like most lazy subpar eateries in MI. Alot better than Atwater across the road. A winner.

I have enjoyed this restaurant on a somewhat regular basis for the past year. The food and service are both very reliable. And yes — — the menu is a bit pricier than you might expect.

I’ll start off by saying I judge everything for a restaurant in terms of price/quality. a $ 10 meal and a $ 25 meal should be a different experience. I think the food was delicious and I would go back however the food didn’t justify the pricing. Two cups of soups, a side salad with a small piece of salmon, pretzels and a beer were $ 45. Thats not too bad but we didn’t even order a main entrée. The brisket chili was good, but then again, not worth $ 6 for a small cup. Fish and chips for $ 24!!! Really? I can’t imagine how good they would have to be to pay $ 24 for a $ 12 dish. Overall a decent meal and the wife says the beers were good so we’ll be back.

Sat outside on a lovely summer day while home in the D. Staff was friendly and they had one of the best lunch specials in the Pointes — a burger and a beer for $ 10. I didn’t feel like a beer, however, so they let me substitute one of their delicious milkshakes! Totally hit the spot.

Short & simple. Sat at the bar and had the pretzels for a appetizer… scrumptious! This is exactly how hot pretzels should be made. Warm & soft just how pretzels should be. :) I am happy and would love to come back and try a full meal.

Walking up to this former gas station on beautifully cool late spring evening was a template for what should have been a fun night down Kercheval. Instead, this was a horrific experience. Let me start by saying that aesthetically I love this place. The bright red neon sign with ten speed bike surrounding it is a fantastic visual as well as a reminder of the hipster revitalization of the area. The layout of the restaurant and the atmospere all signals fun and a laid back elegance. After asking to be seated, that’s when things downhill quickly. Wait, downhill implies a slope of some kind, this was a free fall parachute drop except oops you forgot to pack the chute. We chose to sit outside and our table was ready promptly, so you know it wasn’t a busy night by any means. Our waiter was without a doubt the rudest person I’ve met since my mom went through menopause. He was short tempered and cycled around to us once every 15 minutes. The drinks took most 20 minutes to get to us. A glass of wine and a vodka soda, are you kidding me? The menu was a hodge podge of items with no identity, and since neither of us eat BBQ, it was very limited. This of course was on us, and not the restaurant. So we ordered Mac and cheese and onion rings(have I mentioned my onion ring kick I’ve been on?), what is more ‘Murica than eating those items at a former Standard Oil Gas Station? The m&c was delicious. It was baked to perfection and had a tight crust that was flaky and crisp. If there was a redeeming quality to this visit, it was this dish. The onion rings on the other hand was rubber bands deep fried in Panko and sand. The onions were raw in the middle and while the batter was soggy and mealy. When I told the waiter that I wanted to send it back, he just stared at me. Didn’t say a word, just stared. I imagine this is what Marco Polo felt as he wandered through China… So after much consternation, he finally took the plate away with a gruff grunt. Well we at least we had a drink to enjoy while swatting away the mosquitos. Of course when me lass got to the bottom of her wine glass, she saw that it was covered in residue from the bottom of the wine bottle. Now, this is hardly the end of the world, but what restaurant empties out a bottle and doesn’t clear it before serving it? It was all so disappointing.

My wife, myself and another couple went for dinner tonight at Red Crown. The place is a cute little location, a former gas station/service station made into a restaurant. They have a very nice patio with tables and umbrellas etc. It was very comfortable and it was a cool place to eat. Their menu has quite a few choices despite only being one page long. It seems to me there would be something on it to appeal to just about anyone(unless you’re looking for sushi or asian cuisine). We all split an onion ring appetizer. While it was decent and ok, it certainly wasn’t amazing. The onion rings just weren’t special in any way. They were pretty mundane and ordinary and certainly not worth anywhere near the $ 8.00 they charge. For dinner I had a Fried Perch Sandwich and a side of Jambalaya. The Jambalaya was a lot like the onion rings, not special and pretty much dull. The Perch Sandwich was delicious. The Perch was cooked wonderfully. It was juicy and tasty. The bun was toasted and the tartar sauce was quite good. My wife had a burger as did one of our friends and while they thought the burgers were ok, they were nothing to write home about. My wife also had the wedge salad which she thought was pretty lousy. Our other friend had the DBC Pulled Pork and she thought it was unique and relatively tasty. Our service was amateurish and generally poor. I had to beg for a refill of coke(3 times), and my fries(which were supposed to be included with my sandwich) never came. When we informed our waitress later, she offered to bring them. However, we had already finished our dinner and were ready for dessert. We decided the dessert menu looked pretty enticing, so we each ordered a different selection and we split 4 items so we’d each get a sample. We had coconut cream pie(which was pretty bland and not wonderful), carrot cake(which looked great but tasted fair at best), a bumpy cake(which was ok, but not wonderful), and lava cake(which was probably the best of the 4 desserts). Another issue was that when we chose some of the items on the menu, they were not available. They were either sold out or they were seasonal. Neither was mentioned on the menu. All in all, the frienship and company we had was wonderful. The dinner was ½ of that and nowhere close to being worth the relatively expensive prices they charge. Red Crown needs up their game as far as service goes, and improve some of their dishes. Their desserts look amazing. Unfortunately, they don’t taste that way. I would advise searching for a different place if you want great food. This place falls short.

I went here for my birthday dinner with family a few months ago and was pretty happy with it. The décor was awesome, the staff was pretty friendly and helpful, and most of the food was alright. I was somewhat disappointed with the steak I ordered, though. I understand that a lot of folks like to have the farm to table experience with zero additives to their dish; I’m just not one of them. There was no flavor at all. That was crummy. I might be back, but would have to alter my order quite a bit.

Tonight was our first time visiting Red Crown. Jeff was our server & he was very friendly and accommodating. The bread and oil to start was delicious — very soft! We ordered the bacon jar platter for an appetizer and with that plus the bread we already had, I didn’t think I’d have room for my meal! My boyfriend ended up having the perch sandwich, with the help of Jeff’s suggestion and I had the whitefish special. Super good! His sandwich was gone in minutes, and I was so full from everything else, I could only eat half. It was awesome. Fish had some sort of white creamy sauce that was really good with some salsa spread on it too. We would definitely recommend and go again! It’s a sweet place– a redone gas station turned into a restaurant.

I sampled this place at The Big Grill Burger bash in RO and was in love with both their burger with avocado mousse, pork belly and kimchi but also with their classic mac and cheese. You know it was good, I dragged my ass across town to come here to sample more. GPP is far outside my normal roaming area. I had a free afternoon/early evening and a happy dining companion. I was unhindered by pickiness or any nonsense(my husband) so I went off happily. It was a hike but I was delighted by my destination. I was loving the old gas station vibe. The service was super friendly and getting recommendations involved much enthusiasm and doling out good knowledge from staff. The Hemingway Daiquiri was delicious. I am a sucker for a papa doble so I figured why not. My dining partner was loving her Chercez La Femme, the crème de violette was worrying me but it was super delish. The double crown fish pâté was a combo of salmon and whitefish varietals and was excellent. That pimento cheese and pretzel app? Yeah definitely don’t skip that either. I could eat that cheese all day. I dove into a brisket sammie and damn. It was super tasty, tender and juicy, loved the slaw too. I went with a green salad side which was simple but a perfect pairing. My friend ordered a park po’boy and was equally pleased. She got fries but I preferred my salad, my brisket was *heavier* feeling than her prawns, plus I was stuffed full after apps. Was it cheap? Nope. Quality? Yes. Friendly, fun and just a really quality stop. We felt welcomed and cared for. Worth the hike and I am so glad it lived up to my expectations. I will be back.

I have no idea how this place has less then 4 star reviews. My experience was exceptional! Sat outside on a hot day. Wonderful patio. Big red umbrellas, lots of room. Picnic table and grassy area where you can take off your shoes if you want, and toss a bean bag. Awesome. Our waitress was great. Very bubbly but not the fake kind of happy. Geuinely happy to help. Attentive to boot. My tea glass was never empty. The pretzel and cheese app was seductive. I’m not kidding. Whatever was in that cheesy mason jar was out to take someone home. I only wish we had more pretzels. I ordered a black bean burger. Massive. Seriously it was like an inch thick! Sooo flavorful. Topped with microgreens and avocado. Mmm. This is something you need in your life. Don’t give me that crap that you don’t eat burgers that aren’t beef. Shut it. Try this! So much flavor in the beens and a good char. If you really can’t do a bean burger there are many other yummy choices. We were lucky enough to get here for the lunch menu. The dinner menu starts at 5, and does cost more for basically the same things. But I’d pay more later to come back. Cool place. Fun vibe. Great beers, nom nom nom you love it. Fade to black.
