French toast was excellent and I’m not even a French toast fan. Atmosphere needs work. Food was great though.

Janet’s Lunch is still«closed for remodeling». Went this morning for breakfast with a friend from out of town. SAD to see the place was closed. Wish I had checked out Unilocal prior to going. I TRULY hope they reopen and soon. This place is great and an icon in the area, not to mention it reminds you of what diners use to be like in the ‘50s. I will check out Unilocal next time to look for any updates…

Food slightly more expensive than you might expect, but everything I had was good and tasty. You could tell they used fresh spinach in the omelette. :-) Service was a touch slow/disorganized. They had a couple of young people working and I was told by the woman seated next to me(a regular) that usually, it’s not like that. I’ll go back.

I was excited to try Janet’s while in the area, and saw a ton of great reviews so I had high hopes… The food was good but hella expensive! We tried the two breakfast specials they had today and those with two coffees was $ 21. The portion sizes for what we ordered(Quiche combo and Salmon Benedict) were not huge… so I’m not sure in what context they are using the word«special» — When I hear special, I think of what’s the best buy for the day… and I think in this case special is… what I spent the most time on, and no I will charge you for it. The service was okay, I ordered toast with breakfast, but that never made it to the table, and I had to ask for silverware, creamer, ketchup, and coffee… so, not sure I’d go back…

Went here once, and won’t be back. Why? Well, the place is dirty for starters. That should’ve had us running for the hills. But, alas, we stayed and had lunch here. Both had omelettes. We were able to see the food handling. Absolutely disgusting. No wonder the two of us had food poisoning within hours of returning home… Beware!

Solid American diner serving slightly more upscale food, but in large portions, casual(college and high school servers) and authentically neighborhoody-greetings from the owners. Had the pecan caramel french toast. Good grief; a full portion is 8 pieces and came with enough caramel sauce to float a Great Lakes freighter. Tasty if a bit soaked in syrup. Maybe on the side?(that’s what I’ll ask for next time) Sausage side was generous(4 links), bacon a bit smaller Bill quite moderate. Really, worth eating at in the Grosse Pointe area because 1) the other brunch choices are rather limited and 2) the food is pretty good for the area(I am applying the Midwestern criteria to all my ratings in the Detroit area) Will repeat.

If you’re looking for healthy menu options or trendy food/ingredients, this isn’t the place for you. Janet’s Lunch is a classic neighborhood diner serving classic diner food in the traditional diner way. Pretty much everything on the menu is very good. Breakfasts here are one of my favorites. You can chat it up with the regulars, or read your paper. Service is fast and the waitresses are friendly. Prices are slightly higher than a coney island, but this is an authentic place serving real food and worth the slight extra in price.

YESS!!! Bye Bye Toast in Ferndale, and even Russell Street Deli at Eastern Market — this is the real deal — cheap, flavorful, and not totally packed on a Sunday morning! Not sure I want to amp up this place and make it crowded but it is a true gem. Right on the edge of Detroit and Grosse Pointe. So the food. I had raspberry pancakes with sausage. Delish! I saw caramel pecan frenchtoast next to me and that looked good too. We also had omelettes with asparagus and a salmon egg benedict(Hey Cliff Bells, they actually toast their english muffins, hello!). Service is a bunch of highschool kids, some on their cell phones, etc, but what the heck, with food this good, that is fine! Plus they were pleasant. Total bill came to $ 31 for three, pretty decent! Will be back.

Janet’s was closed, but the owner was in. We asked if he could open to serve 16 beers to the Bar Crawl crowd. We were thirsty, he let us is. If I lived anywhere near this place I would have to check it out. Simply because the owner was the nicest business owner I have ever met.

Janet’s Lunch has become a particular favorite of mine, and not just because it is only a few blocks down the road. Rather, I like Janet’s Lunch because I can eat a full breakfast for about $ 4 while I’m sitting at a short counter and feeling like I imagine I would were this little vignette taking place in 1953(it is, perhaps, a little more diverse than that now — in more ways than one). The service is certainly friendly and courteous, though not the most prompt of all the establishments I frequent. I tend to overlook this fact, however, because rarely do I go there wanting a quick meal. The quality of the food is great for what it is — homemade turkey pot pies and sandwiches(not that I really eat meat, but it looks good), apparently excellent quiche and eggs benedict. Definitely a suggestion for those who are in the area and are jonesing for a more homestyle meal on the cheap.

I like this place. The hot turkey sandwich is really good and they have great desserts. It isnt fancy but the food is decent. It’s like walking back in time here. I go here for lunch with my daughter after school and everything has always been good.

Good neighborhood diner serving American style food. Sandwiches with gravy all over them are good. They told me they roast a couple or three turkeys daily. It’s a dump, the health department or whatever told them to build a bathroom so they put right in the middle of the counter space, but it’s just basic feel good food.

If you have never had the Giradelli chocolate chip pancakes here on a Sunday afternoon you are surely missing out. One Sunday we arrived just as they were closing up(around 3pm) and the owner gave us a free meal to use another time. Feels like a movie set and the location is nicely nestled in the park just before Detroit.

There is a sign that says it opened its doors in the 1930’s, and it looks like they have made absoluteley no improvements. If they did remodel it would be a mistake. The food is very good and reasonably priced. The place is loaded with regulars. I talked with one guy who said he used to come here at least 4 times week. Very friendly and unique, that why they get 5.

I ate breakfast at Janet’s with two friends on a Sunday in mid-June and we had a great time! I’d been wanting to go there for awhile — ever since reading that it’s been in existence since 1938 — and I wasn’t disappointed. We arrived right when they opened and there were already a few customers walking in the door. There’s a semi-circular counter and stools, which was fun. Everyone else seemed to be a «regular» and we talked & joked with some of the customers. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The food and coffee were very good, although portions were a little small. Note: Cash only.

I eat here pretty much every weekend. Service is spotty, the seats aren’t that comfortable nor or their many of them, but the food is great. Thick bacon, properly poached eggs, delicious soups and always a yummy special.
