You have to be kidding – 3.5 stars for this place. No, this place kicks out good food, drinks, and service. Order the TOMTOM, I think that’s what it’s called, and prepare yourself for heaven! I’ve eaten/drank here several times and always forget to review. Here’s my review… you’d be silly not to try this place out. I hope to eat there before I head out the door again for 7 months. That’s a hint! I leave at the end of April, which means you guys better promise to be open in March! Look forward to it guys!

Food is extremely sub-par. We ordered nachos and the cheese had barely melted and the tomatoes weren’t even sliced into bite sized pieces. I would stay away from this place but if I hear more positive things about it l, I may try and return.

Good spot for a local pint or two. Seasonal operation though… reopens in the spring.

We decided to give this place a try when we saw the Groupon. I am a sucker for discounts, and this wasn’t crazy far from home. When we arrived, we had no idea where the tavern was. We wandered around a bit, and still didn’t see any signs that would lead us to food. Eventually we decided to walk towards the banquet hall and stumbled upon the restaurant. Leaning against the back of the building(meaning invisible from the parking lot) was a sandwich board type sign with The Tavern on it. When we later mentioned the lack of signage to the bartender she said, «Yeah they should do something about that.» It was mid-afternoon and we were 2 of the 4 people dining there at that time. The bartender was pleasant and very attentive; we ordered beer and perused the menu. The menu is small, and so is the kitchen. I say that because the flatbread pizza we ordered was cooked in a toaster oven in full view of the bar. But I digress… We started with a hummus and guacamole appetizer and ordered the bbq chicken flatbread pizza. When the bartender brought our app we kind of looked at each other in disbelief… there were two tiny plastic cups with the dips and a basket of tortilla chips with a couple cucumber wedges. For $ 9 – 10 we had higher expectations. Everything was mediocre, so when we saw the pizza hit the toaster oven we had little hope for something decent. Much to our surprise, the pizza was tasty and we knew the toppings were fresh because we heard the cook sauteeing the chicken and onions. Nothing knocked our socks off. The place was obviously designed for a quick snack after golfing… and I don’t golf so we’ll leave this place to the golfers.

I bought a Groupon. When we arrived to try the place, it was so lacking in charm that we preferred to waste the $ 12 spent on the Groupon rather than waste an evening there. I can’t fairly give it a star rating, since we never entered the space and the food may well be very good. I Unilocal won’t post the review without a rating, so I went with 3.

Yesterday Rochelle and Jack were the bartenders and they made the experience exceptional. Fun atmosphere, good variety, and superb staff. Will definitely go back and I would highly recommend to others.

Ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and the cheeseburger sliders. After waiting a half hour for our food to come out, we were served the pulled pork sandwich cheeseburger sliders that weren’t made to how we ordered them. We had to leave as we could not wait another half hour for the correct meals to come out. I really wanted this place to be good, as I’m always looking for a place to eat that has outdoor seating. We ended up going down the street to Fihlos.

Love the Tavern. Great atmosphere, beer is cold and the food is above average. Addressing the 2 negative reviews… sure they have a young staff and are working out the kinks but overall the place is mint. This will be their first full season I believe. I’ve personally never experienced anything negative here and have nothing but love for the Tavern. Live music a lot of nights and good times with good service up to pool for day excursions. Staff is super friendly! Summary? Cozy New England Pub here in Groton, MA! Support Local Biz! Get er done!

lunch recently, place is being fixed up with deck coming soon, smallish but neat, pleasant bartendress, steak bomb was great and buffalo chicken wrap very good… they have music on weekends, it’s a little off the main drag but just look for the groton country club and it’s there…

Waitstaff were friendly, though slightly inattentive. I watched the cook bring our food out of the kitchen and set it down behind the bar as he told our server, who was clearly too busy talking with her coworkers to hear him, that the order was ready. Not wanting to be pushy, I waited for 2 minutes, watching our food get cold, before getting up and asking her to bring it over. We were the only customers in there at the time. Steak tips were tough and bland, even though they were indeed cooked medium as I’d ordered. Cheap meat? I remembered at this point that the menu had only promised«steak tips,» and hadn’t specified sirloin or any other cut. The burger, while not seasoned to my liking, was nicely cooked and well-presented, so I couldn’t complain even if I didn’t eat more than 3 – 4 bites. Fries were lukewarm when we got them, and cold within minutes. Another review had called Gibbet Hill«overpriced» while singing the Tavern’s praises, but GH is actually slightly less expensive, and delivers a far superior product. $ 20 at GH gets you a delicious plate of sirloin tips, with a fantastic choice of 2 sides, vs $ 22 for substandard mystery tips with broccoli and fries. Another review had stated they have a «decent» craft beer selection, and while I agree that they have a craft beer selection, it’s a little overpriced, and not what I’d call decent. $ 56 for tips, a burger, 1 appetizer, 1 canned beer, and 2 sodas, not including tip. The Tavern might be a good choice for live music and cocktails in Groton, but not if you’re looking for a good meal at a reasonable price

I’m happy that a decent pub finally opened in Groton! I’m hoping to snowshoe here for a pint once the weather cooperates! I have been here twice. They have great wings and a decent selection of beer on tap. The nachos could use a little bit of work, they tasted like something I could make myself. The Tavern has a nice atmosphere and layout. It isn’t loud, you can actually hear the people you are sitting with. A cute contra-dance/bluegrass amalgam band played when we went for live music, and they were decent and kind enough to play our requests(Wild Rover! Rock me Mama like a Wagon Wheel!). The service is great, the waitresses and bartenders are friendly. Definitely worth checking out :)

As one of the only taverns in Groton the«Tavern» is an excellent place for lunch or dinner whether you just want a burger, wrap, ribs or dinner. Don’t miss this great little place.

Pretty pitiful for a pub. $ 7.50 for a pint is very over priced and the appetizers were not very good. Nachos were cold and cheese wasn’t melted. Hummus and guacamole was something I would find in my refrigerator at home. For $ 9 – 10 each it was a rip off. Didn’t have the pub food on the rest of the menu, but probably won’t. Probably would not be coming here again.

Disappointing. The new décor is very nice and our waitress was pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately my egg salad was sparse and runny, and the pb&j was immediately refused by my 9 year old because the bread seemed stale(he was right). The hummus & guacamole appetizer was edible but not sure I would order again. I think keeping the menu simple and affordable is the right strategy here but maybe a bit more attention the food would help with getting repeat customers. In the past we got the wings and my kids loved them. Other reviewers seemed to have better experience so I will definitely give it another try — Groton definitely needs more restaurant options and we visit the pool a lot!

Finally a new place in Groton other than the overprice Gibbet Hill and the over-hyped Filho’s Cucina! The Tavern is a new restaurant located at the Groton Country Club, from the owners of Black Bird Café. Honestly, I was not expecting the food to be as good as it is for a pub at a country club. I would highly recommend checking it out if you are in the Groton area. They also have a decent selection of craft beer which I was happy to see.
