Ok, so NOBU it’s not. But NOBU doesn’t offer the comfortable, caring, family-run atmosphere that is offered by Miyoshi. The food is great and it’s an incredible value. The place hasn’t changed in years and that’s what makes it so charming. Whenever it closes for good, whether that’s 5, 10 or 20 years from now, that’s when it will be missed and truly appreciated. Don’t let that happen – keep Miyoshi in your rotation – you won’t be disappointed.

I’m not sure why the reviews here were so bad. I had a pleasant experience. The fish was fresh, the portions were larger than usual but still held quality. It seems like a mom and pop shop owned by a couple. It doesn’t seem like they receive too much foot traffic so I understand the lack of employees during work hours which could ruin the experience for an impatient diner. I expected frozen crappy sushi because the price was so reasonable but the fish was excellent quality. For our family of four we ordered the miyoshi combo which was 18 pieces for 26 and we ordered only 3 of those for 4 people and it was more than enough. Two soft shell crabs for 6. Miso soup was tasty. I’ll definitely be back here. I do wish they carried Kirin.

I’ve been here a couple of times. The staff has been very courteous and friendly. The food, including sushi, has been tasty and fresh. It does seem a bit run down and décor could use an upgrade, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars. I will definitely be coming back.

Sorry that I can’t give this place no stars. This place should be shut down by the health department. i would take too much space to write about the horrible experience I had when I visited for lunch. Here’s my quick summary: Rude owner who got into two(yes, two) arguments with customers while I was there. The place is falling apart. The food was terrible.(I ordered the Chirashi — It was not edible.) Thankfully, I left no tip and told the owner I would not be back. I don’t think he cares. Maybe he uses it to launder illegal money.. .

VERYVERYGOOD! I remember going there with my parents. 30 years later I am still going there. You will not regret it!

I’m giving them one star because the rice was good and the staff was nice other than that I would not go again. My boyfriend and I went on a saturday night and we were the only two there which should of gave us some kind of hint that it must not be good if it’s empty on a night when places are usually packed. My boyfriend ended up getting food poisoning because the food wasn’t fully cooked. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

I had not been here in close to 15 years but found myself in the area and stopped in for lunch. The immediate impression is that the place had not changed at all, same people running the operation, which is good, but the décor was in drastic need of updating. Ordered the sashimi lunch, which comes with rice, for $ 11(not a bad price). Also ordered a spicy tuna hand roll. My typical got to options. The hand roll was kind of bland and needed more spice. The sashimi was fresh but they gave those crummy fake crab legs as part of the selection. Out of nostalgia’s sake I gave them 3 stars.

Decent sushi in an area devoid of anything but sandwiches. Went with a group last and the teriyaki dishes looked great — will definitely be trying that next time. The staff is also very nice and accommodating.

I liked the food & the service. My waiter was very nice & I like the laid back atmosphere. I got sashimi & the bean sprout/crab meat salad. When I asked him if I could have sliced avocado in place of the dressing on my salad, waiter was accommodating. He filled up my water without me asking. Ill be back

Very peaceful and nice restaurant. I love the sashimi there. It is not cheap but really worth that. The fish is very fresh. I enjoy the soup of Udon. It is very good but a little bit light for me. We went there for dinner. Lunch are cheaper than that. I will try lunch next time!!!

Authentic Japanese small rolls which is nice. Not terribly pricey but not cheap. Everything was fresh. I would go back.

This place has been here forever and is definitely a sleeper. It’ no wonder it won«best undiscovered» from NJ magazine two years in a row, albeit that was a few years ago but I still enjoy going here. The little lady who works here is the sweetest person ever and makes you really feel at home here. It’s a relaxed casual atmosphere. They’re open for lunch as well as dinner, but not open in between(3pm-5pm). You can go there for lunch and get a delicious teriyaki salmon steak for cheap. You can’t beat the price and quality of this place. I always start out with a tahitian hand roll, shrimp tempura hand roll, and spicy tuna hand roll. I don’t know what they put in the spicy mayo. but it is sooooo good. . and don’t forget the salad. they have this awesome sauce, I don’t know what it is but it’s awesome. or try to the crab meat beansprout salad which is equally as good. And I know I shouldn’t but I also get the shu mai appetizer(just the right amount of delicious crispiness) Shrimp teriyaki(delicious), sizzling steaks. I could go on and on. and on.

Family-owned and operated, Miyoshi is the sleeper pick for sushi. Taste and quality are unsurpassed in terms of both hot and cold options. Chef Yoshi(yes a Japanese sushi chef … at a sushi restaurant. Whodathunk it??!) serves up the best sushi in the area. I’ve had the rest and this clearly comes out on top. Price, friendly service and top-notch food make this the obvious choice when you’re in need of Japanese food. Sushi fans, experts, and novices alike, don’t miss this Hackensack gem.

I can’t get enough of the salty, smokiness of their clear soup, but everything else is just«meh.» The place is clean and the people are nice. The sushi just isn’t as fresh as one would hope. You’re better off with the hot Japanese dishes than the sushi.

This place used to be full of regulars that visited this locale for their fix of raw fish, quirky owners and revolving door of sushi chefs. It was cheap, decent sushi serviced up with a smile in an unpretentious fashion and if you went here with any regularity there was always a familiar face of a fellow patron during your visit. Now this place couldn’t save itself with free sushi. The sushi is pretty damn weak here now and on a Thursday night at 8:30pm I was the ONLY patron. I risked my life and played Japanese Roulette just to give you Unilocalers a current review. No problems but I can say as a long time patron that took a 3 year hiatus will officially forget about this place. I feel bad for the owners because they have been a fixture at that location for decades but their days are numbered as every truthful review here puts a nail in the coffin.

Miyoshi’s can be quite deceiving from the outside, being that its so tiny. I went here two weeks ago for the first time with a good friend of mine and enjoyed everything we both had gotten. It’s a small intimate place that is open during the day, then opens again at 5 for dinner. Not much seating available, but was definitely worth the trip. Going back this Friday! Had the spicy tuna sushi, and quite frankly was the best I’ve had so far.

Unfortunately with the economy this place has also gone downhill. It is run by a sweet old Japanese couple but on Fri and Sat nights they cannot keep up with their moderately busy crowd. So expect to seat yourself and to have a long dinner. Sushi use to be fresh not so much anymore. The sukiyaki and tempura were other dishes we use to order. It was a great run but sadly we wont be back.

Nothing to write home about. Sushi was average, and I’ve certainly had better. I didn’t have any of the entrees so I can’t comment on that. We ordered 3 rolls that claimed to be «spicy» but none of them even had a hint of heat. The cream cheese in the Phili roll was overpowering, and the salmon was flavorless, as was the tuna in the«Hawaiian» roll. The dressing on the salad was horrifyingly similar to congealed brown gravy that’s been refrigerated and I couldn’t get past my first bite. Absolutely awful. But the miso soup was great! Reasonably priced and friendly enough wait staff. They carry Saporo beer which is always a plus. They only take American Express so Visa holders beware!
