Been going here for years and never wrote a review before. The place has recently been revamped with some new menu items and décor. Food is amazing. Especially good for the breakfast. Scrabbled eggs with rice and beans and coffee all for under $ 10. Hubby and I ALWAYS split because portions are huge. They have a new bakery section which is amazing. Danish, croissants, empanadas… soooo good! Definitely try their Yuca Frita. so delicious. This place can’t be beat for price and service and friendly staff. PS I don’t speak any Spanish for those people who say you have to be a Spanish speaker… I have never experienced ANY dissatisfaction.

Best authentic Columbian cuisine in Bergen County. Our waitress Karen was awesome. Come here hungry because they give you great portions.

We ordered to go and my friends rice with his pork chop had a staple in it he found when he started eating and had chewed on it. The manager, Rafael, was less than helpful and spoke to us with an «oh well, sorry but whatever» attitude, saying he would not give us a refund. To pay for food you’re afraid to eat is ridiculous and I will never order from them again.

I originally discovered Pollos Mario when I was living in Queens. Oh, what pleasure to find one about 15 mins away from my home. This has become my family’s Friday night spot, primarily because it’s quality Colombian food(as good or better than what you would make at home), service is always friendly, and the price is right. The chicken is great. It should be. it’s in their name. But, we usually never order the chicken and stick with the Colombian traditional plates such as: chicharon(fried pork rind), arepas con queso(griddle cake with melted cheese), Bandeja Paisa(the Colombian plate to feed an army with rice, beans, steak, chicharon, avocado, plantain), or the Bandeja Mario(a similar type mongo-plate with various cuts of meat including chicken, pork, beef, sausage, etc.) My kids stick with their favorite: the grilled skirt steak with arepas. The meat is tender and favorful. Drinks — if you haven’t had before, try any of the Postobon sodas: manaza(apple), uva(grape), or Colombiana(a sweet tasting soda, almost with a bubble gum taste). Highly recommend.

Lugar magnifico para almorzar, Los empleados son perfectos. Restaurante siempre muy limpio, la espera para ser acomodado es bien corta. Es uno de Los mejores restaurantes de la zona. Gracias por ser gentiles siempre.

Love this Columbian restaurant. Just ate here for the first time. Their style of huevos was great as well as their meatball soup. It was under $ 8 for the Monday special which was grilled chicken, meatball soup, steamed vegetables, and rice. Generous serving sizes.

Went here a good while ago. Had the Bandeja Tipico. It came with carne asada/steak(pretty good,) chicharron(a bit hard but solid,) egg(fine,) corn cake(arepa, was solid,) sweet plantain(slightly better than the normal,) rice(a-ok,) beans(ok) and avocado(ok.) The food here is fine. I think it’s a bit pricey compared to some of the Spanish places in the area. I prefer a few others such as Bohemia but it is a solid 3.

The one star only represents prompt delivery… I ordered Red Snapper. The lady over the phone said it comes with rice and salad. I asked her how much it was since I saw it online for 17.95. She said that was an old menu. Fine. I paid $ 20.75, ordered an order of tostones and a side of beans for the rice. When the order got here… We had no rice, no salad… The fish was tasteless, no seasoning at all. Instead there were two orders of tostones. And then I call literally 1 minute after opening my food and the place doesn’t pick up the phone. Will not order from here again!

Love this place. The food is fresh, savory/meaty, and it’s not too expensive. I usually have their chicken rice and salad. I recently had their house soup which had gizzard. It was amazing. I love their empanadas too. It gets very crowded, so sometimes the service is a little confused. But a crowded restaurant is a good sign.

So again this is a situation of convenience no car and not knowing to broad an area near the job. In walking by every morning and them having pics of there food up on the Bldg I tried them like a week ago after checking other Unilocaler reviews. I wasn’t disappointed. The grilled tilapia and salad was awesome, I opted out of the fries since it came with rice(didn’t think to sub it for veggies or beans… I will next time). So all and all reasonably priced similarly to the Bronx in terms of the local Spanish fare. This will be in rotation throughout the summer.

I came here after feeling hungrier that a Somalian and was in the mood for rotisserie chicken. I came alone and was seated fairly quickly. My order consisted of rice, beans, 2 sunny side up eggs, sweet plantains and a whole chicken. Everything was good although I wasn’t aware they add pork in their beans(I don’t eat pork by choice so I fished it out and continued eating). The chicken had no flavor at all. I’m used to having really good chicken so it let me down a bit. I will give this spot another try to be fair. If that fails I’ll continue going to Peruvian spots for my rotisserie chicken. Overall not bad but wasn’t anything to run home about. Now to offload the rest of this chicken to my unemployed best friend.

Going to write this review as cut-and-dry and simple as possible… just like their steak. Ordered a small steak with french fries for lunch. Steak was dry and flavorless. The fries were thin and frozen. Tasted like they had been sitting around since the morning. The place was surprisingly packed with patrons for lunch. I’ve also had empanadas from this place during work luncheons. I’m not a fan. Service wasn’t great either for the short amount of time I was there. No one greeted me and I was waiting around for quite a while before some one acknowledged me and offered me a menu.

Great little find. My coworkers recommended this place and we’ve dined here for lunch several times. The quality of food is consistent. So are the portions. I can eat a full plate of food but their regular portions are massive. The half portion is still a lot of food. I’ve only had the Bandeja Tipico. It comes with carne asada, chicharron, egg, corn cake, sweet plantain, rice, beans and avocado. It’s all very tasty. Service is decent. It’s on street parking, so give yourself extra time to park. It’s usually very busy around that area during the day.

Growing up in Hudson county, I’ve had my fair share of great Colombian food AND rotisserie chicken(shout out to Johns fried chicken). So when I came across Pollos Mario on Unilocal I was excited. Unfortunately I did not have the same delicious experience as my fellow Unilocalers. I was pretty underwhelmed. My friend and I split the Mario’s platter which was a sampling of a bunch of stuff(steak, chicken, chicharron). So glad we split it bc it was so much food. We even had leftovers to take home. Nothing on the plate stood out. Service was also not great. I asked for water a couple times before someone got around to refilling my cup. Probably will not be return.

On my way back from NY after taking care of some personal business, I decided to finally try Pollos Mario as it’s been on my Unilocal bookmarks forever. I stumbled on Pollos Mario a few years back and when you browse their website and see the many vivid photos of all the dishes available you can see why I bookmarked this restaurant. I started with an appetizer of yucca fries and they were very tasty albeit very dense and more starchy than say potato fries, though this is attributable to the nature of yucca. For my entrée I ordered the«El Jalisco» which is a dish that is actually not listed on Pollos Mario’s online menu. It started with a salad which was fresh and dressed very well. After the salad the main part of «El Jalisco» was served and it was comprised of a generously portioned medium rare skirt steak topped with a tangy fresh pico de gallo and sour cream, spanish yellow rice, beans, guacamole, and some nachos. I’ve cut down on my consumption of rice dramatically the past year, but I found the combination of beans and rice so tasty that I finished the entire portion. Luckily I was planning to run the next day(as I do on most Sundays), so all those carbohydrates were used effectively LOL. Everything on the dish was very fresh; even those oddly included nachos were very crunchy and not at all oily. My only two gripes were both related to the skirt steak. One was that it could have been seasoned better and secondly, the steak had a piece of inedible gristle at the end which wasn’t trimmed off prior to cooking. Nonetheless, neither detracted from a very good and filling meal at a very reasonable price as well!
