We went to the hibachi side. The food was excellent. Our chef was the fastest chef I’ve seen at a hibachi place. Maybe because we were close to closing time? He whipped out food at a breakneck speed. Considering we can in 15 minutes to closing, they were very friendly and thankful we were there. Too many times I’ve been in close to closing where you feel unwanted. The opposite happened here. I’d recommend coming here!

Love this place. Great sushi, fresh always. Staff is helpful and service is quick. Habachi is a lot of fun, the engage with you and make it a great experience. Food prices are great here also.

This review is for service only. I arrived and ordered salad, 2 orders of nigiri and 1 hand roll. After 45 minutes I had only received the salad and the rest of party had already finished their meals. When my waitress checked, the sushi chef said it would be another 10 minutes since it was so «busy»(the sushi bar had one patron, and there were 6 empty tables in the main dining room). I told her to cancel my order, and after another 5 minutes she gave me the check, no discount, nothing for the 45 minutes of my life wasted, and the fact that I left without my meal. The management here is pathetic. If the proprietor doesn’t respect his customers, he doesn’t deserve my money.

Hibachi is great! Not my top pick for sushi, but the monster roll is amazing(and HUGE). Yum!

It’s been 14 years since I started going to House of Kobe. In the years past, I’d been a regular, dining in several times a month. I don’t live in Hagerstown anymore, but I visit my parents at least once a year, and we’ve kept the tradition of going for a family meal here at least once during each of my visits. I think we always will, as long as my parents live in this town. The fish is always fresh, and really, everything is simple. They don’t overdo anything, which is probably why I’ve never tired of this place. Even their more fusiony sushi rolls are not dressed with a thousand and one ingredients. My favorite among these rolls is the Mexican Paradise. It has the warmth and the slight crisp, saltiness, sweetness, and richness of the eel on the inside, and the coolness and smoothness of the avocado on the outside, lightly drizzled with a sweet sauce that enhances all the great flavors even more. I’m also quite fond of their banana tempura with red bean ice cream. The banana tempura is always fried and glazed to perfection, and the earthiness of the red bean ice cream takes it to a different level of delicious. If you’re not a fan of raw fish, you can still enjoy many different options: steak and shrimp, chicken skewers, tofu. Their agedashi tofu is delicious — thinly breaded, deep-fried, and soaked in a bowl of ginger and sweet soy sauce. It has a very balanced flavor, although the tofu gets very soggy. Of course, there’s also the hibachi tables, where delicious meals come with entertainment. Their hibachi chefs perform and cook your meats and fried rice well, although they rarely get the right tangent when tossing that little piece of shrimp into your open mouth just before they finish cooking. It’s fun, though! They treat you well here, too, especially if you’re a regular. It’s a small-town restaurant after all. The only trouble sometimes is parking on the weekends — but that’s probably true for many great restaurants!

New to area & found on Unilocal.Ate there twice, both take out. Only ordered sushi so far. Usually get California Roll, Japanese Bagel(salmon, cream cheese) & Shrimp Tempura. Great both times & will most likely take friends there. Down side, both times I’ve gone to pick up its empty which makes me think its not gonna be open in a few times but that’s just my opinion.

Really good sushi! I stopped by this Sushi house on the way home from a road trip and had a great lunch. I ordered the House of Kobe salad which I thought was going to be the traditional Hibachi ginger salad but instead was small bed of lettuce and noodles in a creamy mayonnaise based dressing. Unexpected but good nonetheless. For sushi, I ordered the California roll(with real crab meat and not the imitation stick), the Monster roll and the Scallop Nadare. The sushi tasted very fresh and was all very good. I liked that they offered the California roll with real crab met, after all this is Maryland! I didn’t care too much for the black tobiko all over the Monster roll but it was easy to take off. The Scallop Nadare came out hot and the scallops were cooked in a warm cream/cheese sauce which made for an interesting experience but pretty yummy. Great place to stop for sushi! Unique flavors make for a good sushi experience.

It was my birthday, so my bestie took me out for some sushi and hibachi. These guys know how to put on a show! The waitress was super nice, the hibachi guy was hilarious and the food was pretty darn good. I’m not going to rave about the food as it was your average sushi place, average sushi price. Nothing over the top expensive which is always good. I ordered the hot sake, philly and volcano rolls, and salmon hibachi. If my friend was writing the review she would say«the sake tastes like gasoline» but that’s just cause she doesn’t have the extensive pallet that I do. Oh, and she doesn’t like saki — that might be it too. It was a pretty quick experience — we weren’t waiting forever, the grill man did a fantastic job and had props! Like legit Carrot Top props. He even flipped my water glass around without a drop spilled! Better then Carrot Top one would say! I recommend if you are in the area, but if you are up by me in Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg don’t make a special trip as there are a few more comparable places for the same price here.

My husband pigged out on maguro tuna and salmon sashimi with a teriyaki steak bento box that came with soup, salad, pork dumplings, and his steak cooked perfectly medium rare, with a little pineapple and orange slices on the side. I tried the chicken hibachi which was very tasty and served with soup, salad and a healthy helping of mixed stir fried vegetables. Dessert was a very creamy green tea ice cream. Our service was wonderful, many refills and the chance to explain some less well known English words. Bathrooms very clean.

No disappointments here. We came at 6:00 on a Saturday expecting a wait but were pleasantly surprised with none at all. We ordered the Gyoza and Clear Soups and they had them out pretty quickly with an ample amount of time until the main dishes were out. The amount of food you get with the Fried Rice dishes is ridiculously huge and for $ 9 you can’t go wrong. The Gyoza is some of the best we’ve had with a very smooth taste. They were very expeditious in refilling our drinks and were quick in every other aspect. We really have no complaints.

After reading good reviews, we decided to try it. I’m always wary of reviews for restaurants in Hagerstown. The lack of good restaurants makes people settle and like the mediocre. I believe this is the case with Kobe. First of all, service is horrendous! Slow, forgetful and rude. The food was ok. We had hibachi and appetizers. Nothing special. I would not come back.

Service was excellent, sushi was ok. The volcano roll is to be completely avoided. It was overloaded with wasabi, and I’m a pro at spiciness, I couldn’t take it. Made me choke. The freshness was ok. I really don’t need to go back. Probably won’t, and it wouldn’t be a shame. I didn’t get to look at their regular menu, but I heard it’s very good.

Surprisingly, this restaurant has very good sushi. I say surprisingly, because this is Hagerstown after all. The freshness of the sushi is very good and the amount of fish they give you is sizable. I especially like their sashimi. I’ve eaten sushi all over the world, and I must say, House of Kobe is a weekly staple for me and I highly recommend it to others.

Sub-par at best. If you are an avid sushi lover who knows good sushi when you eat it, this is not the place for you. Some of the worst sushi I’ve had. HOWEVER, That’s not saying anything else on the menu isn’t delicious. The party at the table next to us ordered hot dishes, and the plates smelled very good. Hibachi could be an experience, but I’d steer clear of the sushi.

I am down in Hagerstown twice a week and have been since May and been meaning to try this place as an AVIDHIBACHIGOER. Please before reading this understand I am not a hibachi snob but I do know what great hibachi style food tastes like(search: Wasabi — LaVale) Went in on a Tuesday night after work to try hibachi and a sushi roll. Bill came to $ 28. ATMOSPHERE:(9⁄10) This place is very nice and friendly. They sat us quickly and were very nice. There are glasses made of glass, cloth napkins, and everything is clean and high class. The waiters and waitresses are dressed nice and always come back to refill your water. FOOD:(4⁄10) Please stay with me here: The hibachi comes with salad and soup. The soup was different– kind of a beef based soup. The salad was covered in sweet dressing which wasn’t good. Don’t get me wrong: this place LOADS you up with food. I ordered the hibachi chicken with an extra side of rice. The rice was triple what I normally receive at other places, and the chicken and vegetables were HUGE portions as well. HOWEVER, there is no excuse for under-seasoning and undercooking. The rice was soggy and not seasoned and very bland– same with the chicken. It was just plain average. I also ordered sushi and a volcano roll here isn’t a volcano roll I’m used to with tempura shrimp and spicy mayo, this was raw. It’s my fault for not asking. So I can’t speak to sushi here. I feel bad giving this place a 2⁄5 — I really do, the cook was nice, the waitress was nice, and it was a nice joint but I find myself making excuses for its lackluster and just plain average food. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for a huge portion, but willing to sacrifice quality for quantity. Just not for me.

This is the first and best Sushi restaurant in Hagerstown. We had the always amazing Agedashe Tofu which is sweet and savory with the best sauce I’ve had for an appetizer. For the main course I had a vegetarian Futomaki Roll which is so big it almost doesn’t fit in one bite. It has just the right amount of crunch from the asparagus, creaminess from avocado and freshness from the cucumber. I also had a tofu roll which is warm and savory with a bit of Ginger. The staff is so friendly and the atmosphere subdued and relaxed. I recommend getting the saki in a box which is such a surprise I won’t give it away. The tradition came from the war and a google search will fill you in.

I’ve eaten here in the past, my wide has really enjoyed her visits here. I’m kinda inbetween I don’t mind going but there are certainly better restaurants in the area that do so much better at the same cuisine. Kenzos in Chambersburg I can not fault at all. My mother in law also loves this place. Maybe it’s me that is in the wrong. They love it, I can give or take it. I’m in the minority so four stars is fair.

As a present to my daughter after a concert out in the middle of nowhere West Maryland, I found this place listed. It had good reviews and so I thought we’d give it a shot. Pulling in, we were a little wary, as the place was empty and yet we had to wait a good 15 minutes before being seated. Well, moving past that little delay, this place is GREAT! First of all, their prices are lower than your usual chains down in the DC-Baltimore area. Not necessarily cheap, but since you’re in cow-tipping country out here the cost of everything drops. Second, their portions are much bigger than other Teppanyaki-style places. We had plenty to fill us there AND brought leftovers home. Third, their chefs are AWESOME. You know how you go to these places, expecting to be entertained? Well, they did their job right here! Turns out our chef worked at a variety of these restaurants throughout Maryland, and he sure knew what he was doing. He also had a great, if unpolished, sense of humor that made the evening wonderful. So, lower priced food, larger portions, and skilled chefs? I can easily join the others and recommend using House of Kobe if you want some good Teppanyaki!
