Located at the intersection of CA-1 and CA-92, this is a small shack offering some quick coffee and snacks. We had Mochas, Capuccinos and Croissants — all fairly decent, but nothing to die for. Sure, if I’m in the area and want to quick breakfast bite, I’ll stop by.

As a local, I stop here regularly and while the coffee isn’t always consistent(sometimes very weak tasting mochas) the service is usually good. Such was not the case in my experience recently. I pulled up to the drive thru window on the far side because there was already a costumer at the main window. I waited for more than five minutes without a single acknowledgement. When the girl finally noticed me we made eye contact through the window and I smiled at her only to be returned with a blank stare without any emotion. One would think after waiting so long she would try to be pleasant and say something like«thanks for waiting» or «I’m sorry you had to wait so long» or maybe, I don’t know… SMILE!!! She slams the window open and says«what can I get for you?» She was so rude and looked seriously annoyed that I asked her if she REALLY wanted to help me. She looks at me(still zero emotion) and shrugs her shoulders and says«yeah». I said«Really? Because you seem to be in a really bad mood.» She says she’s not and still looks like she hates her job or maybe she hates people in general. I was so turned off by her attitude there was no way I was letting her make my drink. It told her I was going to pass on the coffee and before I could drive off, she slammed the window shut! This particular employee has acted strange in some previous encounters as well, but never as rude and odd as today. It’s sad that my experience with her can effect my review rating so greatly giving only two stars, but that goes to show that a smile goes a long way. With Starbucks and Peet’s close by and several locally owned coffee shops in the vicinity, AJ’s really needs to make sure to treat their customers well if they even want to try to compete with the big name shops. I will not be back to AJ’s.

The place to go for delicious, quick coffee drinks. The service is excellent and the menu has everything you look for; hot, cold, or blended coffee drinks, with a wide selection of pastries.

I decided to opt for this place as I assumed it was just a locally owned thing, and was sorely disappointed. I was the only one there when I arrived this morning(someone pulled up behind me halfway thru order). I ordered a medium iced zebra mocha with half the pumps of chocolate, and only halfway full with milk. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. The barista took my order, charged my card, and went to start the drink. She turned around and said, «Actually we are out of cinnamon rolls». I said, «Ok.well, I don’t want anything else so just apply the cost of what that would have been to the order of the person behind me». She asked if I was sure, and I said yes(hopefully she actually applied that like I’d asked). When she handed me my drink, it was totally full, and then she said, «We are actually out of lids right now»…what the heck? It’s a drive through coffee stand, *all* you sell are to-go cups for the beverages, and it’s 8am, how are you out of them already?! I didn’t have time to deal with it so I said thanks and drove off. When I started drinking it, it tasted like coffee with non-fat milk added to it. Advice to owner/baristas: check your inventory before you close and when you open and before you charge people for things you don’t actually have available. Coffee fans: do yourself a favor and go to another shop on Main St or something. Even Peet’s trumps this in terms of service and quality of coffee.

When I pulled up to AJ’s there was a car parked in front of each drive through window. Apparently both of the cars belonged to friends of the employees and they were all just hanging out talking. After waiting a few minutes one of the employees noticed that I was there and came out to take my order. I ordered a medium and a large coffee(both with sweetener) and 2 bagels. When the barista came out with my order she had forgotten about the 2 bagels and instead of a medium and a large coffee, she brought two mediums(we were charged for two larges). In addition she had neglected to add sweetener to both of the coffees. I could go on but I think you get the picture. With all of the coffee shops in Half Moon Bay I don’t see why I would go to AJ’s in the future.

Cruising down highway 1 on our way to San Luis Obispo and needed a caffeine fix. Pulled into AJs and orded a coffee drink — The service was fast, my latte was good, and the guy working there was very friendly

My family and I came to half moon bay today to beat the heat and I was excited to get a coffee from aj’s. My husband got a coffee frappé which was HORRIBLE! It tasted like blended ice. No flavor at all. I got an oreo frappé which was ok. I don’t know what happened to this place. It used to be really good. Don’t think I’ll be getting drinks from here anymore. Waste of money! !

At first i had a really good impression of this place, the prices were pretty cheap for how big the small was. My friend had ordered a iced white mocha which was really yummy but here’s where it went all downhill; I had ordered a iced red velvet but instead the girl working made me a hot one. This was no big deal to me because i thought she was just going to remake it but instead she just transfers the drink into another cup with some ice. My drink was warm and watered down and just overall tasted horrible. I do not understand why she thought it was okay to just do that but whatever never going there again.

We LOVEAJ’s!!! Über-friendly drive-through service with consistently delicious individually crafted coffee and blended beverages and smoothies! GREAT beverage menu with SO many options! Bonus! They offer almond milk(which most of the corporate-coffee stores don’t!). We are regulars and the staff all recognize us when we pull up. Gotta love that personalized service! LOVE this place!

Cute little drive-thru coffee shack. Super convenient whether you are on your way to or from school, work or visiting the beach. I stop here once in a while with my daughter on our way to school. If there is a line of cars, it moves quickly. The Baristas are always friendly and helpful if you don’t know what to order. Our lattes have been very good. The also have a variety of bagels and pastry available. It’s nice to have a non corporate coffee shop to support locally. We will defiantly keep coming back!

I LOVETHISPLACE!!! Okay, first the coffee and blended drinks were awesome. They also serve smoothies. While making smoothies, I asked the girls about dairy, cause of my son’s allergy) and they made sure it was not cross contaminated. The price was cheap, the girls were SUPERFRIENDLYANDHELPFUL and the drinks were delish!

Great coffee, fast service, friendly baristas. What more can you ask for?! We come quite frequently whenever we drive out to the coast and it is so convenient to drive-thru and then head to the beach. There’s one really nice girl who works there and recognizes us — she is a pleasure. She even gave our dog a treat when he was in the car with us and now whenever we pull up he desperately climbs into the front seat. Love this place!

This is the cutest! You will see A. J’s on the way in or out of HMB. We noticed this cutie after dining at Sam’s Café. There’s two windows to order from and one window for a walk up. Pretty neat. They also carry Fresco/Frappuccino drinks. I tried their Mango Fresco minus the whipped cream. I think I made the right choice. That mango drink was super saturated with mango flavor and fresh tasting sweetness that I really didn’t need that extra help from some unhealthy whipped cream. A small cup was big enough to enjoy. They have hot drinks and cold drinks. They also carry fresh baked daily cookies, muffins, croissants and scones. They sit in the middle of a big lot right off the main street before you turn right on Route1. So if you’re in a hurry best option would be this place. Awesome service in a caffeine induced blink!
