Mas Vino, yes you are large, you have that warehouse appeal and décor, but oh was I ever disappointed in you. A friend had text me telling me you were offering a big sale on wine and I was in the area so I could not wait to stop in. As we were walking in we could not help to notice huge letters painted on your entire glass storefront was the word SALE. Sure it can grab your attention but my first reaction is «Are they going out of business». I had just finished buying wine at Costco and was looking so forward to stocking up more at this establishment. Of course I grabbed a shopping cart thinking in no time I would have it filled right up. I walked up and down all of your case stacks on the floor, nope nothing impressive. Then I slowly went through every single aisle looking for anything I would enjoy. Again, nothing! Most of the wines were small winery’s, private labels, with pricing all over from very low end to higher end. Sure your front cellar with your magnums and higher end more well known Bordeaux’s and such were impressive but your prices were NOT. If you are going to compete with Total Wine, get some loss leaders to get customers in the door buying, entice them with good marketing instead of painted windows that look like you are going out of business. Then add some wine tastings throughout the day. If you are going to carry unknown names by all means give people a taste to try. I know about wine so I am sorry if this review seems negative. But for a wine educator like myself to walk into a large wine shop and walk out without buying a single bottle, there is a problem. I hope your selection improves with some finer wines, more reasonable pricing then I will visit again.

I recently went to a Greek Wine Class and a Canary Islands wine class in Mas Vino’s classroom and it was such an awesome experience. Charles Ferrin, who’s the store manager there, teaches all of the wine classes and he really makes it informative and fun, giving the«students» an overview of the region’s history, geography and trends as far as wine producers and distributors — but I can’t deny that the best part of Charles’ wine classes is actually tasting the wines. He always picks great selections, many of which are hard to find yet affordable wines. You’ll hear a lot of «oohhh’s» and«ahhhh’s» after the first sips of the different wines, and we all describe what we taste, whether it be hints of fig, or pine, or honey or tangerine. Charles also discounts the featured wine bottles if you wish to buy a bottle(s) after the class. For $ 25 you get a two hour crash course of learning about wine through taste and through the presentation that Charles puts together. Sometimes he also features special guests, like George Spiliadis from Milos Restaurant for the Greek Wine class. Preservation, Sunny Isles latest restaurant, caters all of the classes, so you get good food pairings with the wines you’re trying. Check Mas Vino’s Facebook page to keep up with their events and when you go to Mas Vino, ask for Charles, as he’ll be sure to help you with your selection.

Mas Vino recently opened in Hallandale and I finally was able to stop in. The store carries a nice selection of wine and liquor. I did not look at the beer area, so I don’t feel like I can comment on the selection there. Mas Vino also carries a small selection of wine glasses and decanters. I actually did purchase a decanter since it was very reasonably priced. I’m not sure if Mas Vino is finished adding product, but currently I would say they have a moderate selection. The liquor section carries a nice selection of product and I was able to find two rums I was looking for. This is not the largest wine or liquor store around. Some products I found to be reasonably priced and at least two wines were well marked up from prices at other stores(Wines: Leonetti and Pursued by Bear). But not all the products I looked at were marked up, so I would definitely do some research on specific items in the future. I will definitely go back to Mas Vino in the future when looking for some different wines other stores in the area do not carry. Mas Vino also offers classes and events. I look forward to trying one of the wine classes.

Went here for the grand opening this weekend! Huge selection, friendly staff, and moderate prices! They carry wines, liquors, and beer. I will definitely be sure to stop by here any time I am in the area!
