I’ve had several things from Surf Road & can only recommend two things: 1. tortilla soup, 2. baja taco. But those two items are perfection! Sadly they just announced on their Facebook page that they are closing at the end of this month(Jan.) so if you’ve ever wanted to try the place now’s the time! I’m sad to see them go.

A nice hidden gem in a harsh location! When you pull up to the area strip mall, you won’t see anything worth stopping for BUT, head around back, they have a private parking lot, and you can enter from the back. When we entered we were happily greeted with a nice welcome! The menu had some great varieties! There’s a fresh salsa bar containing about 4 different types! The fish tacos were so amazing, the chips were cooked fresh, and the portions were over the top! They had staff walking around refilling your drinks and baskets of chips. This was an all around excellent experience! We definitely recommend this hidden gem!

5 stars for their fish tacos… I’m from california, and this is the best thing to rubios fish tacos… The place looks like aaaaaa«A TACOSHOP». They have a salsa bar(cali), Cabbage in fish taco not lettuce(cali). I have not tried anything else… but i dont think i need to. I always go when i’m in the area. Not too many seats inside, they do have parking in the back, and even added a decent beer selection since my last visit. TRUSTME — THEBESTFISHTACOSAROUND!

I tried the place for a second time. I was with three others, and we ordered a host of items. I got to try the quesadilla. It was just okay. While I appreciated the fact that you could actually see and feel chicken in the quesadilla, I thought the chicken ended up being a little dry and chewy. I did again stick with having tacos, but ordered two of the fried Mahi Mahi tacos. That is the way to go here. The fish had a subtle crunch on the outside, with white flakey fish on the inside. They were very good. I just can’t increase my rating. I find the salsas here to be very poor. for that reason, I had to spend nearly $ 4 to order a side of guacamole so that I could have something to enjoy the chips with. The salsas overall are too fruit based and have no heat whatsoever. It is pretty unforgivable under the guidelines that govern how I review.

PROS: — Consistently good food — Always VERY fresh — Fast and friendly service — Free Salsa bar and FRESH chips when dining in — Delivery service CONS: — Neighborhood is sketchy and the location can be tough to find the first time. — It’s a super small spot, but I actually think that adds to it’s ‘character’! — All of the Salsas could use salt(and I’m not a big salt fan) OVERALL: This is a hidden gem. If you like your Mexican food smothered in cheese and sauces, do NOT come here! If you like your Mexican food fresh and authentic — DO stop by! I love the grilled mahi tacos and the shrimp tacos. For a unique taste of SoFl try the Croco-Tacos. Yes, they are gator. Yes, they are good!

Delicious Mexi-Cali hole in the wall! If you enjoy eating great Mexican food, you have to come here. Located in the Hallandale area, the joint is not hard to find, but upon arrival it’s a little sketch. Now let’s get to the food. I wanted to try and salvage any type of healthiness I could so I opted for the tostada bowl with chicken. This bowl had everything from a crunchy tostada bowl, shredded chicken, avocado, cheese, sour cream, black beans and lettuce. The meal was awesome and the sheer size of it was enough to satisfy even the manliest man! Every meal comes with chips for the table. They also have a small salsa bar that carries your typical pico de gallo and this refreshing mango salsa type sauce. My friend had ordered the chimichanga and boy was this a GIGANTIC meal. I had a bite of this and it was to die for! I am definitely ordering this next time. The best part is that I don’t even have to go to the place to get my fix, they DELIVER!

I am a fan of the crispy mahi-mahi fish taco’s. Also the Mango salsa is rediculous amazing. These are the best I have ever had and I lived in Los Angeles. It is a small place and the owner is really nice and the food comes out fast. It is in a kind of shady nieghborhood and it could use a cleaning. When the owner is not around the service is as great.

One of my favorite places in south Florida. The food comes out fast and fresh. The owners are very friendly. Prices are very fair. You can get two tacos, rice, and beans for $ 6. Chips come out right away and there’s a salsa bar with four different choices. They deliver for free if you live nearby. I just wish they had a better location.

This place isn’t easy to find, and looks like a dump. Despite this, the food is tasty and the menu is solid. I had a burrito, and everything about it was good. Not great, but good. This area doesn’t have a Moe’s, and Chipotle and Lime are further south on US1, so for south Broward residents, Surf Road Taco will help with those cravings for fresh Mexican grub. We ate there, but I’ll probably take it to go next time. Seats are cheap and uncomfortable and everything wobbles. It looks like the tables and chairs came from a church rummage sale. Some funky painted wooden tables and chairs would really work in here, and wouldn’t be that much of an expense(yard sale!)…but for what they charge, they can afford it. My brother and I each had a burrito that came with chips, and I think he got a soda. Our total was just over $ 20. I can get the same at Lime or Chipotle for a few bucks less, and similar food quality. Not a big deal for a few dollars, but since it’s further from me than the other places, I’ll probably only come back when visiting with my friends that live in Hallandale.

Surf Road Taco is the place to be if you’re looking for some great food at a great price. I used to live right by this joint, and never really cared to walk in. My coworker Gina(thanks again!) brought me here for lunch today, and I was truly amazed. The mahi mahi and shrimp tacos were absolutely spectacular, and so were the ‘Not-yo’ nachos. Everyone here is very nice and the service is pretty quick. They have a list of specials going on every day of the week, some of which you may not want to miss! Again, I will definitely be visiting this joint on the regular, and I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!

Is it me, or has it become The Year Of The Taco? With the emergence of Jefe’s Fish Taco Truck, Mecadito, Crazy Mexican Taco Bar, El Scorpion, and on and on. Where there were none, now there are plenty. Be careful of what you wish for, Marcos. Sure, Surf Road Taco has been around before it was hip to be a taco, but in this review it’s my world; and thus it’s all new to me if I say so. This place would make serious cash money, mano over puño; if they would move their location a few blocks over to Biscayne. But instead they’re a little off the beaten path and thus they’re staying humble and keeping it real. The food I give 3 ½ stars, the service 4 stars, and the prices 4 stars, because they could easily charge more and get away with it. The staff was super nice. You notice it right away. They all want to be there. Must be something in the salsa. The fish tacos were delicious. Not the best, but you’re not paying top dollar. Good enough, to bring me back for more and more. I’ll leave it at that. Judge for yourself. Ándale pues, Bro.

On my way to Hollywood for work, I found myself with an extra-long lunch hour, and headed over to Surf Road Taco, since I’d been hearing good things about the place for quite a while now. The place was pretty empty when I arrived, but that could have been due to the fact that a crazy storm was rolling in. No matter! I was ready for my Mexican lunch feast! I opted for the taco platter with baja-style fish tacos and tortilla soup. The soup came out right away, and was so yummy, I almost wanted to nix the tacos and order another bowl of it! The perfect blend of spices, shredded chicken, and cheesy-goodness — topped with some crunchy tortilla chips and a couple dashes of Cholula — it was heaven in a bowl! The baja fish tacos were excellent as well. Each taco had about 2 pieces of fish, and a good helping of some crunchy slaw and a crema-type sauce on top. I was just about stuffed after the first taco, so the taco platter is definitely an amazing deal! The servers were so pleasant, and the prices were just right(under $ 10 for the taco platter and a drink). I hope I get the chance to return soon!

I went here for lunch with a bunch of fabulous Unilocalers over the holidays. 4 stars for the grilled Mahi tacos, they were awesome!!! Wish I would have got 2 of these instead… 2 stars for the shrimp taco. The shrimp were a little rubbery and lacked flavor, I just dumped a bunch of hot sauce on it and that cured the flavor issue. Great specials on Taco Tuesday — who can complain about $ 2 tacos that are giant??? I am interest to go back and try some of their burrito options, they look yummy too. Plus they have a potato burrito that I find intriguing… all good Irish girls love potato… Service was pretty quick, especially considering we filled up the place all at once. Will to go back and give them another shot and see if some of the additional menu items will lead to an upgrade to 4 stars.

The people who have been giving this place bad reviews must not have tried the grilled mahi tacos. How could you leave this place disappointed with those? Unilocalers unite for lunch at this fantabulous establishment and I walk away pleased and with a food baby in my belly. Two dollar Taco Tuesdays?! Seriously? God why are you all the way in Hallandale, SRT? I’d be there every single tuesday for the great deal. I stuffed my face for 6 bucks today. It all started with their tortilla chips and fresh, delicious salsas. They have a stand where you can help yourself to as much of the salsas as you’d like. Bottomless goodness. I like it. I proceeded to order a shrimp taco and a grilled mahi taco with a side of guac. I’ve noticed in a few reviews complaints about the flour tortillas. To me, they could not have been better. I love doughy, soft tacos. They. Were. Awesome. The shrimp one was ok, but next time I go there I’m stickin’ to the grilled mahi tacos. They were fresh and delightfully seasoned with a ranch-like sauce. Add the guac and some fresh salsa and you’ve set yourself up for some taco temptation of the irresistible kind! Mmmmm… Oh, I cannot forget to mention the Tortilla soup. Boy am I sad I didn’t order my very own bowl. That was one of the best soups ever. Thanks, gins, for letting me try a bit of it. I will definitely be ordering my own next time.

Was expecting good food from all the reviews. I ordered the baja fish tacos and the nachos. Before i ordered the nachos, I asked if it was with queso, they confirmed. I received the food, and it was definitely not queso as you can see in the pic i uploaded, I would think workers at a taco restaurant would know what queso is. This really ruined my experience here, will not be back. The fish tacos were decent, the free salsa was average at best. Wouldve given it 1 star had it not been for the above average fish taco.

It felt real sketch driving to this place at night, and seeing the iron security bars didn’t help either. But the Unilocal reviews said wonderful things about the«California-style Mexican» dive and golly, I wanted some fresh fish tacos! Best value is the 2-taco platter for $ 6.95 which also comes with a side. Dad got the chicken taco, grilled mahi-mahi taco, and tortilla soup. Mom got the grilled shrimp taco, grilled mahi-mahi taco, and rice & beans. Since I knew I’d be sampling everyone’s tacos, I got just the beer-battered mahi-mahi taco for $ 3.15 which also had shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, and the best part — the cilantro lime sour cream. Fried is the worst for you but never fails, always the best-tasting :) The beer-battered fish taco is the best choice here. They also have complimentary tortilla chips(greasy though) and a nice salsa bar — 4 different kinds of salsa: all fresh tasting but not so much flavor unfortunately. Thank God for the bottled hot sauce :) Definitely worth a visit if you love fish tacos.

Five stars, whoah!!! Takes alot for me to give five stars now. After reading so many reviews from Gina and Anika and other Unilocalers had this place bookmarked to try. Hubby picked me up and we ventured off to Hallandale to give it a try. Could barely see the sign from the road, but then easily found parking in the rear… lol no comment… Walked in and was greeted by a very pleasant lady. My husband said it’s our first time here. She grabbed the menu and described every dish in detail. She was awesome! Being a huge fish eater, I must say have never tried fish taco’s. Just never seemed to be a mix for me. Well after the rave reviews had to give them a try. The very nice lady asked if I wanted them grilled or fried, yummy grilled mahi-mahi, sounded good with rice and beans, I ordered the platter. $ 6.95 Hubby had the same with the soup. Of course had to try the guacamole. It was good but not the best! The chips were light just the way I like them. The salsa bar was fresh and a good mixture. O.K. First bite of my fish taco’s. At first I was afraid, then petrified, then the tenderness of the white flaky moist mahi was disolving in my mouth with such a suttle flavorful wet, creamy, elegant taste. Pure food ecstasy! Superb… I was really enjoying these fish taco’s. I actually made the comment to my husband, wow we almost went out for a really expensive dinner tonight, and for $ 19.89 for this dinner, sure was glad we came here. So enjoy these small, family owned, business’s. Clean, friendly staff, and delish food… what more to ask for… Hubby loved the tortilla soup. I did not try it because I was to busy devouring my perfectly grilled fish taco’s. The rice and beans were good also. If they offered sangria I probably could have ate one more and hung out a while more… ha ha Now will I drive to Hallnadale, hell yeah, this place is so worth it. Loved it… Thanks to my fellow Unilocalers…:)

I’ve been back twice since my review. I think they put crack in their cilantro lime sour cream sauce. I woke up this morning craving a Baja taco and funny enough, so did Betty so off we went again for lunch. How is it possible that the taco today was even BETTER than my first one. I’m baffled at how simple yet delicious it all is. Is there a six star option?
