The prices keep going up up up, and the portions and quality of down down down. $ 10.75 for a handful of fried clam strips that are overcooked? Ridiculous.

This place is the best. Home style grilling and it’s not that expensive(unless you’re getting seafood.) definitely worth a try! So yummy!

Have you ever wondered what you would have for your last meal were you in prison awaiting execution? Probably not. My wife and I consider this often even through we have no plans to murder or kidnap anyone. The simple yet elegant charcoal broiled hot dog from The Glenwood would be a perfect last meal. Add onion rings, cheese fries an an excellent garden salad and we would be more than satisfied. Steak and lobster for a last meal? Never. I’d take a hot dog from The Glenwood well done. It’s heaven(or hell) depending on whether you really committed the crime.

We’ve been trying to find a good chili dog for a couple years now… Been to the known places in Milford, West Haven, etc but the chili is always a ground mush or sauce with no visible meat or beans. Well, when I saw the price on the Glenwood Chili Dog I knew it must be the real deal… And it was! Hello, real beef and beans in their chili. Like the saying goes you get what you pay for. The staff up front was fun and engaging too!

Wow… they’ve gotten pricey lately… 4.15 for a hot dog almost 2.00 for a small soda… last time I was here I got change back from a five for a dog and drink… not anymore. Hot dog I got today was very good but I’ll reconsider next time given the crazy prices.

I just feel like this is replicated all over Connecticut. Not saying they’re copying anyone, just saying that it’s not good enough to call a destination dive. It’s expensive. A chili dog, two cheeseburgers(one was double), a soda, and two orders of fries/onion rings. A comparable meal at, say, my favorite local spot Capitol Lunch in New Britain, would cost around $ 15-$ 17… My total came to $ 31 and change. For that kind of money, I’d much rather go to a fried seafood place, a barbecue joint, or go to a restaurant with wait service. The Chili dog was very good, and I really liked the onion rings, which contain real onions… a rarity these days. So I’m not saying I didn’t like it. I just didn’t $ 31 like it. I’d get it if this were in some uppity place like Cheshire or Downtown Hartfo… oh wait there’s Blackie’s and Woody’s respectively, and those places are cheap too. Sorry, I just don’t see a place in my heart for the Glenwood at these prices.

Simply the best drive in what am. It was our high school hangout. The best drive-in around.

Very good hot dogs. I love how you can specify how you want your food cooked. I ask for my dogs burnt and they’re exactly how i like them every time. The chili is good especially on fries topped w cheese sauce. I love sauerkraut but i do not like theirs. It has a sweet flavor to it. I love the atmosphere here and the neon charbroiled sign at the entrance. The order takers unique voice always make my day. «Two dogs, burn it. Wrap em!» Great place all around.

I’m a fan and have been for years. Glenwood’s drive in style is not gourmet by any means but they dominate when it comes to fried fatty food. They have hot dogs, hamburgers, fried seafood, lobster rolls, onion rings. All the major fried food groups. The employee who takes your order yells it at the top of their lungs so you can’t be bashful about what you’re ordering because it’ll never be a secret. The food comes out fast, but always exactly what I’m looking for: buttery lobster rolls, mounds of delicious clam strips, cheese fries. If for some odd reason you’re not full check out Kelly’s Kone Konnection for ice cream or soup to go with your meal. Side note: check out their occasional car shows.

I like it here and always have, maybe a better attempt at the whole sanitary working with food aspect could be better, I watched someone grab money(cashier) then grab my food with bare hands so that kinda grossed me out but all in all its always been a great place

So I was in the mood for ice cream and decided to try Kelly’s Kone Konnection. As I was going inside Kelly’s, I saw a flyer on the door advertising the special shrimp poboy at Glenwood. My interest was immediately piqued by the food of my people! I wasn’t even hungry, but I was ready give Glenwood all of my money for a taste of home. I was so excited, but a little part of me also had a sneaking suspicion that I would be disappointed… It turns out that little part of me was absolutely right. I need to start listening to that doubting voice in my head. She’s always right. But alas, my optimism had control of my wallet. So this«poboy» is so egregiously bad that I can’t even call it a poboy without quotation marks. First of all, the thing was on hot dog bread. What. The. Hell. I can’t even. Have these people eaten a poboy before? The shrimp wasn’t battered. I only got 6 shrimps for my $ 12.76. There was no tomato. The pickle slices were too thick. The only reason I’m not giving it 1 star was because their attempt at the remoulade wasn’t completely abysmal. Overall, this weird shrimp sandwich was not a poboy. These fools need to dig through my Unilocal pictures and see what real poboys look like. Ridiculous.

Hmmmmm, a hot dog place in Hamden, CT… with a line out the door… and the aroma that I imagine I will smell walking through the Pearly Gates. I love hot dogs… and anyone who follows my reviews know I’m in search of the ‘perfect’ hot dog place. Who knew this little place near Quinnipiac University would rival many of the places I consider the best. Six of us ate here and we had a variety of yumminess. Plain dogs, cheese dogs, chili cheese dogs(my personal favorite), burgers, fries, onion rings… we didn’t try any of the seafood, but it looked delicious too. The dogs and burgers are grilled… no, not a big steel grill, but an actual fire grill and they were the best dogs I’ve had in a long time… oh yeah, and they are HUGE which DOES explain some of the higher prices here. The chili cheese dog was probably in my top two… anywhere, and the cheese dog, well how can you go wrong with a grilled dog, with a slight char, and smothered in cheese?!? You can’t! The thick cut fries and hand made onion rings really topped this meal off. I swear the next time I’m up here this is my lunch stop… and I’m trying the fried clam strips! The only thing to make this place better would be ice cream for dessert… OHWAIT!!! It’s adjacent to Kelly’s Kone Konnection!!!

A staple of the Hamden community for sure! You don’t just go to Glenwood for the food, you go for the experience. One of the very best places to get a bite and sit with friends.

Okay So I Heard About Glenwood from a friend on Fb(More Like She Checked In & I Clicked On To Their Facebook Page) Okay So I Get To Glenwood The Line Was Pretty Far From The Cashier So Someone Was Taking Orders As People Were Standing In Line! I Ordered A Soft Shell Crab(Never Had One Before) And My Dad(Who May I Add Almost Never Is EXTREMELY Pleased With Any Food) Ordered A Lobster Roll Platter. After About A Five Minute Wait And Paying My Food Came. It Looked Just Like The Facebook Pictures My Soft Shell Crab Was Fried To Perfection. My Father’s Lobster Roll Was Nothing But Lobster Chunks And Hot Butter Between A Warm Roll. I Was Very Happy With Customer Service You Can Tell The Place Is Frequented By Usuals Because One Of The Employees Asked About Someone’s Grandson Very Warm Feel If Your Ever In The Neighborhood And You’re Hungry Stop By. I Promise You’ll Enjoy It.

A town staple for decades. Still good. They still kinda yell your order even though they type it in first which is cheating the kids need to put more of an effort in to that as this has always been a Glenwood signature.

One of the best burgers in Connecticut. This place should not be passed up by anyone! I grabbed my usual(single patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, and mustard) and it was phenominal. The booths were not the cleanest, but the place was so busy I am guessing it is because the customers take the seats before the workers can get to cleaning them. The order counter is setup in queue line format where you wait in a single line, place your order, then wait for it to be served. The workers were very attentive of the people waiting for their food and made sure they didn’t need anything extra while waiting. Cooking time is what you would expect for a fresh(non-fast food based) burger. Atmosphere is setup like an old burger joint, except without all of the reproduced media on the walls. It does not try to be something that it is not, it is just trying to be a darn good burger stand and that it is. Parking is plentiful and the outdoor seating definitely caught my eye. I will be returning to Glenwood Drive-In soon and plan to bring friends this time. Keep up the good work guys!

Loooooove this place! Recommend the fried chicken sandwich. I’ve also had the shrimp. It’s very good. Everything is reasonably priced. The interior is dated but clean. All the staff seem happy to be there. Looking forward to going there for ice cream in the summer.

Got a cheeseburger and«frings». French fries and I in rings. Burger was good and cooked right. Order of frings was barely ok if you don’t use condiments. Ate a couple and passed the order on to someone with kids. Won’t be back.

As I have previously stated in an earlier review, «it will probably be another 6 months before I do again.» Welp, it’s been 2 years and 4 days! Today I had the chili cheese dog with American cheese and the fried clam strips. Not a bad showing and so much better than the last burger I had.(then again, how hard would one have to try to mess up a hot dog or frying some clam strips???) Service was quick and the bill was still a bit over priced for what you get.

Food is average for a drive in type place like this. I love the cheese fries, you get a cup of melted nacho like cheese to dip your fries in, which even at 30 I get a kick out of. I like to be in control of how much crap I put on my food. Staff here is all high school kids or those«cool» kids from high school that never made it out of their hometown and have something to prove I guess when you come in with your family… So basically don’t expect to be wowed. You’re bothering them from texting to place your order and they literally scream it. That’s their thing. It’s overpriced for what it is, but is better than fast food and you can get ice cream after you eat at the attached ice cream parlor. Overall good feel and quick stop for a hot dog.
