A friend went to college in the area and had gone here before. We went on a great weather day, the hike was exhillerating and the views were breathtaking. A must do if you love the outdoors and a hike with a view.

Park gets over crowded on Spring weekends, but other than that it’s a ten. Miles of hiking trails and the castle at the top is great for the wee ones. The Quinnipiac river runs just to the West of the park. The river is stocked with trout in the Spring. There are trails for beginners and tougher climbs for those who want them. Tons of animals from deer to squirrels and everything in between. The view from the top are beautiful. I highly recommend it. Bring the whole family.

This is a great hiking trail that has it’s challenging and easy trails. The main trail(tower trail) is always full of folks on the weekends, young, old, and canine included. It’s shady and fairly bug free, which is a plus. There are port-a-potties as well, but no water so make sure to bring your own! The park closes at sunset and it costs $ 9 to park. The only real negative is that there is some litter around, and the gravel can be really hard to walk on.

Perhaps one of my favorite places to hike in Connecticut. The park has a variety of trails and difficulty. There are numerous picturesque views and picnicking areas. Quick tip: Park on the Chestnut Lane entrance to avoid traffic and parking fee for non-Hamden residents.

Never get tired of a hike to the castle. So far I have done the extremely difficult blue trail and the very easy gravel trail. The views are great and I always run into tons of friendly hikers. Along the way, you will find the view, writings on rocks and trees of previous hikers, a castle, and quite a bit of wild life from snakes(only once) to insects to dogs(leashed by people) and even our hometown friends the squirrels and chipmunks. If you live around the area or are looking for a family fun activity, this is the place to be on a weekend afternoon.
