I’m going to start off my review by saying that I’m very picky about Italian bread. When I grew up it was easy to get a nice loaf that was slightly crispy on the outside and had great flavor. These days most of the bread sold as Italian bread feels like a sponge and has no flavor. So, I was excited when I read an article online about Venice Bakery in Hamden.
I was not disappointed! They make old-style Italian bread (probably because they’ve been doing it for 3 generations, according to the paper bread wrapper). And, it has great flavor. I also tried a loaf of their stuffed meatball parm bread, which I liked. I’ll definitely be returning!
I wasn’t able to find their hours listed online, so I asked. They’re open until 6PM Mon-Fri, and until 2PM Sat-Sun. Nice to find a good bread bakery open on Sunday!

I give Venice 1 star for their broccoli, sausage, and mozzarella bread. There was zero mozzarella and the sausage was almost non-existent. That would be false advertising in my book. Broccoli bread is what it truly was. No, thank you.

There is Italian bread from many new haven bakery’s than there is bread from Venice bakery ! Most of you’re finest Resturants in the area buy bread from this bakery because it is unique and artfully made by hand the olde fashion way ! Venice has many varieties of handcrafted bread on Thursday they even make wheat and now they are making ciabatta bread, they also carry an assortment of stuffed breads as well ! All the breads they make here are fantastic
