Good place to stop in and have a drink or eat something quick. It’s just your average neighborhood bar. People are friendly and prices are good. Perfect hangout to watch football or Nascar racing.

Marty’s Place sits at the corner of Hamilton and Johnston Avenues in Hamilton, NJ. It has been a corner neighborhood watering hole for at least the last 80 years, under several owners and in various disguises. This most recent incarnation is a comfortable dive that it almost too cute for that distinction. It is bright and airy for a small space, with lots of color, and well maintained barroom. The bartender working the afternoon shift when I stopped in for lunch was a lifelong local and took pride in his work. The bar itself is the shape of a «Question Mark,» with the open end toward Hamilton Avenue, and the tail toward the rear near the pool table. It is in good shape given its age, although the stools could stand refurbishment. The menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with special attention to oversized omelets, burgers and other hot sandwiches. My large Burger with Cheddar, Fried Onions and Jalapeño Slices was better than expected, although it was obviously a prepackaged frozen disk. It was closer to well done than the medium requested, but I don’t mind cutting the kitchen some slack given that the result was still tasty and I had no expectations that it would be a gastronomic delight. It was a satisfying chew, and came with choice of sides, for $ 6.75. Very good deal. The conversation was pleasant throughout, and the folks coming in and out all seemed to know the barkeep and all exchanged upbeat repartee. The suds were mostly American, with the usual suspects from abroad. This is not a craft dispensary; nor should it be. Overall, Marty’s Place feels like a winner for a quick lunch and conversation. Evenings might be more lively, but I appreciated the relative quiet of a mid afternoon break.

Great breakfast spot, quiet and not a rip off. Probably the best value for food for breakfast and its served every day. The quality is just as good as the quantity. The regulars will come in throughout the day from all ages, gender and ethnicity. Makes for some fun conversations. Definitely a traditional corner bar to get away from the outside. As times change they may lose their niche due to their regulars aging. Owners are extra nice and always around. Regular specials on drinks and bartenders are friendly.

Was good A good place to meet up with friends for a couple of beers and relax. Food is typical bar food. pizza steak sandwiches… they don’t water down the drinks so if you want to hang out stick with a few of the many different kinds of beer they stock.

On the corner of Hamilton and Johnston Avenues, this bar is located in the gateway area that transitions from Trenton to Hamilton. Knowing that I had a love for the old Trenton corner bars of the past, this bar has been a recommendation to try from several of my friends. Walking into the Johnston Ave entrance, the bar had an immediate feel of a Trenton corner bar from better days. There were about 15 stools placed around the bar, with a pool table tucked in the back. There was a lottery machine, with winning scratch off tickets proudly strung up on display above it. Many of those were $ 100 winners, which I’m sure made for a great night of eating and drinking for the lucky lottery players who chose to stay and celebrate their winnings. While their tri-folded 8 ½×11″ paper menu seems small, they have pretty wide selection of food for a bar of that size. They offer a decent selection of breakfast food, many of which include their signature BFO(omelet with 3 eggs — you can guess the rest). They also offer a wide selection of appetizers, sandwiches and burgers and bar pies. With the jukebox playing a decent selection of music, we met several new friends and had a great time. We even had the good fortune to meet Marty and his wife. According to Marty, if he had to select one item from the menu that he enjoys the most, it would be the BFO. After enjoying a night of eating and drinking, and even bumping into a few people I worked with years ago, we have a fun time and will return soon. If you want to try a place that definitely has that«corner bar» feel, give Marty’s a try!

Marty’s has been my neighborhood bar that isn’t in my neighborhood. I’ve driven out of my way for 8 years to come here. And yes made my way home all those times as well. My brother brought me her for the first time in 2002. Back then it was called Cosmo’s. There was a few things that kept bringing me back over the years. At first is was that my step brother and Alfie lived around the corner. Then over time I became friends with the bartender, and brought my friends here. Now I come by just for old times sake and to see some old friends. Plus its the only bar I feel comfortable in after all these years. Its been a long time I ate here. From what I remember the food is really good. Its basically your regular bar food with daily specials available. I usually come in later at night when the kitchen is closed. But one thing I do know is that there beer and drinks price are cheap, and they have specials sometimes as well. The atmosphere changes depending on what day/night that you go. They have a jukebox, pool table, darts, and some form of hunting game. Darts are a little tough on busy days since the main board is in the middle of the bar. They also sponsor a dart, street hockey, and softball teams. Plus if your into auto racing, Marty is a owner of his own car. He races at the New Egypt race way. If your looking for a night club this isn’t the place for you at all. If you want to sit talk and relax then its perfect. So Marty’s Place is Fat Kid tested Fat Kid Approved. As always stay peckish my friends
