Not the prettiest place in the world but great food and value, simple steak on rice can be very delicious, this becomes my regular.

Favorite Mexican restaurant around Hammond! Excellent food and amazingly fast service even at lunch. In and out of that place in easily 30 mins. Food usually comes out within 7 – 10 mins of ordering. I would say WAY better than Mi Patio and La Carreta. I would eat here anyway before I go back to any of those restaurants. Excellent staff and customer service also. Pay-at-counter method.

Great authentic Mexican food! Very reasonable prices and super fast service. If your in the area I would very much recommend El Agave. Nice atmosphere.

I have been to El Agave on many lunchtime occasions. I eat lunch there with people I work with. When they first open they were hands-down the best… it was great prices coupled with quality food and and a fair portion size. Over the past year it has been noticed that the prices have increased, portion sizes have decreased. Where you could choose red sauce or white sauce a.k.a. Queso on top of your enchiladas or your relleno… Now if you even say the word queso they want to add a dollar to your bill. On May 28, I ate lunch there with 3 people I work with. Two of the people I work with got beef fajitas and my supervisor and I, who is of Hispanic dissent, both ordered a number 22 off of the lunch menu, which is described as «Rice and steak or chicken topped with nacho cheese sauce $ 5.99.» I won’t say my my plate had half of what my Spanish-speaking supervisors plate had… because that wouldn’t be fair… it would be more accurate to say a third of what was on his plate. Side note… The beef skirt fajita meat was almost diced. Therefore there was a very conscience decision made to unevenly distribute portion size. I made a comment about there not even being any Queso… my supervisor said, «I don’t know it just probably went down in the meat and rice…» Well needless to say after he took a bite or two he said, «huh… there isn’t any Queso.» They seem to be in the weeds…(Weeds — restaurant lingo for very busy.) He never checked back to see if the food was okay… Long story short we never got our queso. After a while to give us drink refills, that we had to ask for by the way, they finally brought our tickets… he gave me my supervisors ticket who had a soft drink where as mine ticket didn’t. When we were leaving I mentioned to our waiter who was checking us out that there wasn’t any Queso on top of our plate as indicated by the menu and his response was «It’s on its way.» And then he started babbling and mumbling at an inaudible level… Then he said what do you want a bowl or something??? And looked at me like I had aliens coming out of my ears. My Spanish-speaking supervisor just stood there, smiled and said not a single word… because why would you say anything negatively about someone or people who go out of their way to give you the store. I will never return to this restaurant. I swore that I would tell anyone who would listen about how horrible my experience was there… My only regret is that I didn’t take a picture of our plates side by side. Also to note this was one of their top tier waiters… he is very knowledgeable and very well aware of what he is doing and speaks English very well. I don’t appreciate being treated as a stupid gringo.

Great, QUICK, Authentic Mexican food at a great price! Great lunch menu prices with plates starting at $ 5.00. Can’t beat that these days. Also, great house salsa while waiting on the food.

Do not believe the hype. Upon reading all the Unilocal reviews we gave this place a spin and were severely disappointed. Starting with service. There was like one server for the whole freakin’ place. He was nice and accurate but c’mon people, not cool. He couldn’t keep up. And the menu is, how do you say, very Sysco. Pretty sure not a single fresh ingredient in that kitchen. As for the liquor we opted for a margarita; curious what the standard v. the Texas style one was, we were informed it was ‘top shelf.’ So sad when it appeared moments later and was very clearly poured from some forsaken pre-mix. The order came out promptly though to quote my wife about her vegetarian option, much of it resembled nothing more than — wait for it — two words: grease bomb. If you value your time, your pallet, and your future health avoid this place.

I love to eat here when I come to Hammond. They have great Mexican food. prices can’t be beat. They will accommodate large crowds. The food is fast and fresh. They feel like family. It is easy to get to and I’ve never had to wait to be seated. I guess they spoil us here.

One of the most overlooked restaurants out there. This is college heaven with the drink specials they offer and the underpriced food. The wait staff seems to be made up of mostly family but they are great. Their salsa is awesome and I love the spiciness of it. Their food though is particularly bland. I find myself reaching for the salt and pepper and other condiments that are near to add some flavor to the food.

Frozen house margaritas were not the best I’ve had, but you can’t beat the price(a small for $ 3.75). The food was really good. I had a veggie quesadilla which came with a cheese enchilada and refried beans for $ 6.55! The salsa was yummy, and the service was great too. I’d eat here again.

I’ve been here 3 times. After discovering the Tacos Al Carbon, I haven’t ordered anything else since. They are so so so good. Service is fast and most of the dishes are very well priced. Naturally I’ve developed a love for the more expensive dishes(~$ 10 an entrée). On Wednesdays they have a great Mariachi band. Free chips and salsa certainly don’t hurt either.

A solid choice for americanized mexican food in Hammond. Their menu is extensive, offering great lunch specials, a la carte items, and a smattering of dishes you would expect to find in this sort of restaurant. The prices are pretty good, and the food is awesome. I got the nachos and a chicken chimichanga to take home for later. Nachos were good, but the chimichanga was excellent.

Don’t overlook this mexican restaurant in Hammond. Great tasting tacos, attentive staff, and very affordable! Might not be as fancy as other local competitors but it won’t empty your wallet!
