My wife and I went on a Sat. night with a 6pm reservation and was seated upon arriving. This was a prom night, so it appeared they were set up for large groups, but no groups had arrived during our meal. The wife ordered the 8oz filet cooked well done(I know this ruining a steak, but it how she wants it). She tried to get a house salad with Thousand Island, but not available. I had the turtle soup, which was good, had better, but it was still good. My main meal was the Five Spice Scallops and it was excellent, highly recommended. My wife’s fillet was cooked medium(pink in center), but she would not send it back. She just ate the parts that were well done. The steak from the outside appeared very well done, as it had some charring. She should have sent it back to get rid of the pink, but she does not send food back. Her side of grilled asparagus could have been cooked a little more also. Overall I liked the place and would return, my wife not so much. Found prices to be on par for this class of restaurant. There was a little issue I had with the service and it is odd, so bare with me, they were too fast. From the time we sat down to out the door with wine and drinks before the meal, through the meal, having coffee with desserts, and paying the bill was 50 minutes. Was looking to spend a little time with my wife for our 34th anniversary, enjoying a couple drinks and enjoying the beautiful restaurant. I guess next time we will sit at the bar for a couple drinks and then make our way to the table. Service was great and very much on top of their game, hence the fast meal.

This is a wonderful experience for anyone who wants a romantic dinner or to simply done out at a nice upscale restaurant. The restaurant is an old mansion with many small rooms and window views around the entire seating area. The menu is limited but has a great selection of steaks and seafood. The bread which is given to snack on melts in your mouth and the wine selection is excellent. Enjoy!

I’m pretty partial to this place because it’s where my husband and I had our wedding reception. But aside from that… I love the food & character of Jacmel. This year we celebrated Valentine’s Day at Jacmel & I can only brag on this place. The food was great(I had the 6 oz. filet… my husband had the 8 oz… dry aged & savory), but our service was excellent. We had the pleasure of having Taylor as our waitress. Again, I might be partial because I’m a Taylor, too, but she was wonderful! Great experience & as always, we find ourselves coming back again & again.

When we first arrived there was a large private party and we were greeted within five minutes. Once at the table we waited about 5 minutes before the waiter realized we were his table, which I thought was going to be a terrible experience. We ordered appetizer(calamari) and it was delicious. Prior to ordering dinner, we asked to speak to the chef because I have an allergy to anything cooked on propane or natural gas, Chef Paul came to the table and assured me he would prepare the food perfectly. For dinner, I ordered a filet cooked medium, double baked potato with the soup of the day, which was a bacon, mushroom, Swiss cheese! Everything was perfect! Chef Paul came back to the table to assure everything was great! We will be back!

My best friend and I drive past this place whenever we’re in Hammond, going on three years. Always with the comment that we want to go. Enough wanting, we picked a date, made a reservation and went. Completely worth the wait. Dinner was like walking through a fine painting of food. It was an experience from the moment we walked in. The location is beautiful outside. Inside is quiet and beautiful. We decided if we were splurging, then we were splurging. Appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. Everything looked and tasted amazing. I can’t say enough about the presentation. So pretty. So happy we finally went.

I was able to go home and visit with my parents in Oct 2015. They treated my sister and I to Jacmel Inn(along with my nephew). It was one of my favorite places to go when my wife and I used to live in Hammond years ago when I went to school at Southeastern La. University. Food was great. My nephew replied that the sandwich that he had was the best he had every had.

Everything was good. Food was excellent… had one of the veal dishes. The air conditioner was so cold that I shivered through the meal and my feet were numb by the time we were done… I was glad to get outside and warm up!

Saturday, May 2, 7pm reservation Parked right in front but noticed only 2 other vehicles. Sheets of plywood laying every which way on uneven ground made it hard to walk to entrance especially dangerous for women in heels. We were greeted and seated right away, only four other guests we could see. Wait staff very attentive. Appetizer was Calimari, very good even with what I call catfish(cornmeal) batter. Turtle soup was good but a little strong on the chili side. The French onion soup was as good as any I’ve ever had. Shrimp and grits, shrimps were big and delicious but the grits were not really grits anymore but a thickened cream of grit with not much grit flavor or texture. Loved the asparagus spears. The pork chop was very tasty but a little tough. The potatoes and accompanying sauce was very flavorful and seasoned well. The bread was amazing. The molten lava cake with ice cream was as good as it gets as was the cheesecake. I was told the deserts came from the Cocoa Bean Bakery across the street and the bread came from Randazzos. I recently read another review that stated this business was dog/pet friendly. I can’t begin to understand why an «upscale» restaurant that has so little business on a Saturday night would think letting dogs eat at the tables would increase their revenues. Had I seen a dog/pet in this establishment I would have left and not returned, and also would have given the lowest rating possible.

I had picked this restaurant based upon prior experience. We drove 1 hour and upon arrival we noticed 1 car in the parking lot. We figured it was a Sunday and it was 7PM maybe everyone had come and gone. We walked in and were greeted immediately and in a pleasant fashion. We ordered apps, entrée, and drinks. The drink was a cucumber basil cocktail, unfortunately several minutes later I was told there was no Basil in the house. OK, diet coke it was. We received our salads. «salad of strawberries, walnuts, feta cheese, and spinach with strawberry vinaigrette». The salad consisted of ½ strawberry cut in half, feta cheese, spinach, and vinaigrette. I asked about the salad being a salad of strawberries and was told there was a strawberry vinaigrette. For $ 7 upcharge I had hoped for more than ½ strawberry, especially since the description was«salad of strawberries». Next was the duck confit and shrimp & grits. The duck was sweet instead of savory but it was good. Shrimp and grits also was sweet, the shrimp were overcooked and tough. Finally the bill, well it took some time as our waitress was on her cell phone in deep conversation. Oh well. On my next trip I will skip Jacmel and suggest you do the same.

This was a major disappointment on my anniversary. The setting was very romantic but the food was not at a level that you would expect for the price. This was our first and last time dining here. Could have had better food at Sonic.

I love my mamma dearly, so for her birthday, I wanted to take her out to a fancy pants dinner. We both wanted to try somewhere we’d never been, so we picked Jacmel Inn. Jacmel looks like it’s in an old house, and it’s so pretty. You walk down a winding path through a garden to reach the house. When you enter, you feel like you’re in someone’s home. Beautiful exposed wood, dim lighting, and a burning fireplace, make it very welcoming. Our server was nice, but I felt he could’ve been more polished for that level of restaurant. To start, we had the French Market Oysters, which is fried oysters on top of creamed spinach, andouille and anisette. Holy cow! This was DELICIOUS! I wish I had an entrée size of it. We also ordered the turtle soup. It was disgusting. It tasted like chili, and was very watery and greasy. The server promptly took it away, and it didn’t appear on the bill. For my entrée, I had the scallops. They were seared and cooked perfectly. There was a special of a filet with lobster knuckles in butter on top My mom asked if she could swap out the filet for a ribeye. She was told that it wasn’t a problem, but there might be a slight price difference. Great! While her entrée tasted great, I was SHOCKED to get the bill and see that they had upcharged it $ 17!!! I found that to be absolutely outrageous because they special was already the highest priced entrée to begin with at $ 33, so to not tell me that the price difference was going to put that entrée at $ 50 was just inexcusable. I didn’t want to address it there because I didn’t want my mom to feel bad for ordering it. I did call the restaurant to complain about it, and the manager was sympathetic and agreed that I definitely should’ve been told. For desserts, we got bread pudding and crème brûlée. Both were pretty good. The grades: ATMOSPHERE: A+ FOOD: B SERVICE: B– VALUE: C

Great place. My wife and I decided to have our wedding reception here. The manager, Chanc, kept us assured by covering every detail and option available. Our guests are still remarking of their food quality and service. And they have a great selection of single malt scotches, and wines!(Personal favorites)

Unilocal helps again!!! On a recent trip to New Orleans I wanted to stop for lunch somewhere along the way. I checked out top rated restaurants in the cities outside of NOLA and came across Jacmel Inn. It is as good as the rating suggests!!! First, it’s a bit tricky to get to. I followed my GPS around the same block 4 times — never seeing this place. Finally when I had given up and circled around to get back on the highway I saw a big sign for it. It seems that it is between two one way roads — try both roads before giving up. There is at least a huge sign on one side! The next thing one needs to know is that this place is in a very unassuming location. It’s heavily residential outside of downtown Hammond. It looks like the kind of neighborhood one might find a great fried chicken joint, not high quality food and wine. Push on, this place truly is an oasis in the middle of Hammond. Once I finally arrived I was stunned. The restaurant is nestled between lots of trees, which really helps you feel like you’re traveling to another place and time when you visit. The inside is gorgeous with wonderful woodwork. The outside patio though is where I ate — and where I have daydreams of returning! It’s so spacious, with water fountains, lights, and speakers playing poppy emo music were all so wonderful. I think it would be great for a date night or to even rent out for a special party. And I bet in the summer this place is packed! It was a little cold that day, so no one was on the patio, however when I mentioned to the server that I had my dog with me and would like to sit outside — she did not hesitate. She quickly pulled out a white linen table cloth and got me my own little spot set up outside. It was just a quick lunch so we ordered the turtle soup and a salad. Both were outstanding. They also serve you fresh baked bread when you dine here, which on a chilly day was a great compliment to the turtle soup. They had many delicious looking items on the menu and a pretty attractive wine list. This likely will be regular stop for me on my trips down to NOLA.

Ate here for lunch today on a whim. The exterior is adorable and the food was amazing. My husband and mother in law both had the shrimp and grits and I had the Thomas St. salad. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Glad I found this place. You could easily miss it. Feels like driving to a friend’s house for dinner. There’s a rich history behind the house and the name. Ask any of the friendly staff for the details. Starting with French onion soup. While tasty I thought it was rushed. The gruyère cheese on top was barely melted. Needs to be left under the broiler to get bubbly and crisp. There’s also a hint of exotic spice such as curry or cumin in there. In the end I devoured it, though. Also tried the pork belly served with a smear if house made BBQ sauce and mango/pineapple salsa. Unimaginably good. Also tried the turtle soup. Rich with flavor and a staple in this area of the country. Entrée of diver scallops with bacon crust, mushrooms, truffled risotto. Perfectly seared scallops and creamy risotto. Lots of flavor in every bite. Minor complaint is the bacon overpowers any hint of truffle. Earlier in the week I had the nightly special amberjack with Dijon/pistachio crust. Excellent. The Jacmel Inn is clearly an institution in the town of Hammond. On any given night this place could be hosting a charity event, fundraiser, or political gathering. They no doubt retain such affluent clientele because they’ve earned the respect of the community through consistent attention to detail and excellent customer service. You get the same level if service whether you’re a regular or a first timer like me.

Best vibe /ambiance in Hammond. Food is great but I come back because Chance, is in my opinion, the best restaurant manager in this area. Service is always great. Great place to get a cocktail. Good whiskey selection and they can actually make a cocktail. I personally like to hang out on their patio. Steaks are very good but I usually end up eating a bunch of appetizers. Calamari is great. Very large portion. The fried oyster with bacon is ridiculous. The crawfish tamales are very good. My one knock is I wish they had a little more variety for entrees… it’s very much centered around meat or fish(they do have a good Shrimp and Grits.) I recommend coming here for an intimate dinner or starting your night off here with an appetizer and a drink.

Went to the Sunday brunch with a small group this past Sunday. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The fresh bread they bring to the table is the best around… I could make a meal out of bread and butter! I had the eggs benedict and was not disappointed! I’ve been here fairly often and always enjoyed it. The only downside is when the air conditioner is on in the warm months, the floor vents will kill you with cold air in at least one of the rooms. We always have to cover it if we’re next to one. Oh and be sure to get the crème brulee. It’s to die for!

One of my FAVORITE restaurants! Mapquest it because its a hidden gem. First to mention, the atmosphere is hard to duplicate. Hand welded light fixtures adorn the walls setting the antique ambience. Old fireplaces in each intimate dining room with wall to wall windows overlooking a thick forrest of bamboo. They recently renovated the back yard and it makes me want to plan a party asap. If the weathers right ask to sit on the patio. Second, The food! When the food is served all you will hear are moans of food esctasy. I have never eaten anything that was below 5 stars and im stingy with a 5 star rating. Fresh churned butter with hot bread is served right away. Scallops are the biggest i have ever seen. Menu changes with the seasons but scallops seem to be a staple. High quality ingredients with careful thought in each dish.
