White Castle

This would be the first White Castle that I have visited with bullet proof glass. Friendly staff but did not get my order correct. The burgers came a little bit soggy, just the way I like them, but I asked for extra pickles and did not get them.
My biggest problem was that trays do not have any paper on them, and my fries were tipped over. How clean are these trays? Are they just collected and reused without a washing.

Same garbage food that tears your insides up… same cookie cutter store… overpriced. store is clean, bathrooms are clean, food takes a little bit of time to get to you which makes no sense when the burgers are sitting on the grill being slowly steamed…

Trashy, registers behind bullet proof glass, but dayum, absence makes the heart grow fonder. You see, I’m from Texas, and very rare and strange circumstances had me driving from Chicago to Detroit, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect for a lunch stop in Hammond.
OK, the chicken rings are gross, the crinkle fries need salt, but I think I could take down about 20 of those cheese sliders.

Yes, this is your general purpose, new breed of Region WC. The one it replaced, further up Calumet Avenue, was torn down in the ‘70s and while once dining there I had the pleasure of being solicited by a gentleman seeking to sell some watches. The Hammond Police Dep’t was within walking distance and, this being before cell phones were invented, we took an after dinner stroll over to it to report the suspicious activity. The police arrived and arrested the guy — and the present WC was built at its present location shortly thereafter.

You probably have to be from the Midwest or coast to really appreciate these little burgers. I have loved them forever and not to mention the cheap prices burgers. Where else can you get 1000 burgers for $ 20. Ok, that may be a stretch but you catch my drift. Cheeseburgers make me smile especially from this place. Their chicken sandwiches have real chicken on them, not that fake patty crap sold at most place. I love the cheesesticks and pretty much everything here. Don’t even get me started on how good the lemonade is. I miss going to w. castle w/​my friends after after school events sometimes even during school hours:) Since moving to SD I miss those little burgers/​chicken on a bun, I love you Mr Castle.

White Castle is a franchise Chicagoans and people from Indiana know and either love or hate. If you have any aversion to onions, any at all, then the place probably totally repulses you (unless you can hang with the chicken offerings, which are good in and of themselves).
I cannot comment on the cleanliness inside of this one, as I only like to go to White Castle when it’s über-​late, and as far as I know, this one now locks the doors at a certain hour due to the crappier elements of Hammond, who were fond of starting crap with personnel. However, their drive-​thru service is quick and typically spot-​on with order correctness and completion.
The food lives up to what you would expect standard White Castle fare to taste like; really, shouldn’t you expect all fast food places in a chain to taste the same as their siblings? I’d be weirded out if one particular White Castle made the burgers so much better than another.
So as you can see, this White Castle does nothing to raise it above «average». If you like White Castle and you’re in the area, it definitely hits the spot and will save you from going to Whiting or Schererville (or that other Hammond one by Speedway).

Thank you for not only being open 24 hours… but for having your doors unlocked at 12:30 in the morning, because sometimes… you just gotta go!
This is my White Castles of choice when I go home and now it ranks that much higher in my book.

This White Castle was just rebuilt and it seems better than the old one was. I still wouldn’t recommend hanging around there too late at night, because I know the old one used to get pretty shady. The foods awesome of course. I mean it’s White Castle. I don’t care for the design of the outside of the building, I prefer the old fashion style. The new style makes it look like it’s built from styrofoam or something. I don’t know.
