Mmmm. Is this the YMCA across the street from a Church? If it is. One of the worse weeks in my life occurred here. I was perhaps 9 or 10 when my mom decided to torture me and sent me to the YMCA DAY Camp. Back in the day, even to now Hammond was a KKK strong hold filled with Militias, mullets, confederate flag t-​shirts, stomachs to their nods, cushioned with Jerry curls and phonetics of Ebonics and continual racial slurs. I was already painfully shy as a kid, but no minorities except a group of black girls with braids that you can tell, came from a Fine Military Family with the most proper English ever. There is nothing wrong with one predominate ethnic group for a presence, but in N. W INDIANA. It usually means something. God, I wish I knew this OLD man’s name, but after remembering he wasn’t that old. Just short, with a pubescent boy’s body and a Nazi disposition. They had us Climbing Ropes, Jumping in and out of Tires, and walking in Ponds filled with Duck Shit was not my style. But I figured they were getting us ready for the coming race war! But according to him. „All Mexicans ate beans and rice and were stumpy Indians who were to be FEARED“…He talked about Philippine people that they „Were the worse of all Asian races. They were dominated conquered and were nasty horrible people. There MUTS“ He also stated that Chinese were „Cursed by God for there eyes. Since they were slanted they were CURSED.“ I think Asians are some of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen. No group on earth looks like Asians and there culture is distinctively different from the west. He stated eating „Rice and Shrimp is a curse from God.“ Even though Asians have been doing brain surgery on people since 3,000 B. I really really wanted to like this place. Afterall, it is the YMCA. The only reson I am giving this place 2 stars is because everyone that works there is so amazingly nice and I sincerly like them.
I have never seen a dirtier place in all of my life. I am not sure how this place isn’t condemed. The sauns is filty that the woo has actually changed color and is a blackish grey color in some places.
There are piles of dirt at the corners, piles. You can tell that they do a surface clean and don’t really do anything. I was there on a Monday and someone left a disposable shaver in the shower, when I came back Wednesday, it was still there. Are you kidding me?
The cleaning lady is super niec but she sits in the locker room and watches tv. I have never seen her clean there. All of this makes me sad.
