I was and think you should be hesitant about going in after reading reviews. There are many options for physical fitness, aerobic, outdoor, pool, classes, free weights, and numerous weight machines. The owner is serious about keeping his guidelines in place and the other reviews will give insight to this.

Was visiting family in the Hampstead area and went to this gym twice to work out the holiday paunch. I’ve logged in quite a few hours in quite a few gyms, all over the world. And I’ve never written a negative review on Unilocal. This was the worst gym I’ve ever been to; this is my first negative Unilocal review. First off, the staff. They seem miserable. They’re rude, terse and seem like they’re out to make a buck. First time I went, a day pass was $ 7. Second time I went, four days later, the price was $ 10. They were obviously gouging prices to make a bit of extra money from the out-of-towners who had no other choice but to go to the only local gym. It’s just transparently bad business. And when I asked why the price went up $ 3 in four days I was treated like a child for even daring to ask. Yikes. I think they need some healthy competition to start stealing away their customers — maybe then they’d attempt a smile. Second, the facility is as bad as it gets for $ 10. Equipment is circa 1995, and one of the handles on the chest fly machine broke off mid-rep. The pool looks filthy. No towel service. The locker room was disgusting, with a murky bucket and mop in the corner. Only six treadmills and one of them didn’t work. The layout didn’t make any sense — if you wanted to do core work on the floor you inevitably ended up being in someone’s way. On the upside, they did have at least three apparatuses where you could do pull-ups — most gyms skimp on pull-up equipment, so kudos to them for that. If I had enough money I’d invest in the kind of gym that Hampstead deserves, and staff it with the kind of nice folk that North Carolina is famous for. If you’ve got the time, avoid this place and drive out to the Gold’s Gym closer to Wilmington. It’s more crowded, but still I walked out with a smile on my face.

Too expensive for what you get. Generally not too crowded and lots of equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowing machines, stairclimbers. They also have nautilus equipment, free weights and a small pool. Tanning is offered as well as several different types of fitness classes. Overall pretty good for the area. Clean, bright, congenial staff. Just be prepared for steep prices. Day pass = 7 $ and 30 day pass = 50 $!!! I think a year pass is the best deal if you can swing that.
