Always great service and great food! I’ve dined in and been attentively taken care of and have done take out a number of times also and always received the right order ready in 10 minutes. I always get the Deluxe Burrito which is 2 burritos filled with beans, rice and your choice of meat topped with lettuce and pico de gallo and served with your choice of rice or beans and the Fajitas Burrito which has just meat and onions inside and is topped with sour cream and served with rice or beans as well. Their white sauce is amazing! We always get a medium side of that to eat with the complimentary chips and salsa and I also put it on top of my burrito.

This is my favorite Plaza location.(Oyster Point would be the close second) I’ve been here a million times but yesterday was the first time I really stopped to observe the beautiful Aztec architecture & Art adorning the entire restaurant. We ordered two jumbo margaritas one strawberry & one traditional lime. Due to a mess up at the bar I actually got the Texas which has more alcohol, so that was awesome. For our entrée we ordered the Fajitas for two. HUGE portion of chicken, beef, shrimp & carnitas(pork). You also get a plate with rice & beans & sour cream.(you can sub double if you don’t like one) Babe had 3 fajitas & I had 2 both stuffed pretty well. We had a lot of leftovers & when the waitress saw that she asked why, I told her I took everything but the carnitas(just wasn’t that yummy to me) & she let me know you can sub for any of the meats except shrimp, so that’s a good to know for next time. Overall, I hadn’t had Mexican in a long time & it really hit the spot. Delicious, fast & friendly service. Can’t beat it.

The renovated Hampton location is reminiscent of that awesome 90’s kid show, Legends of the Hidden Temple… I honestly wish Olmec was affixed to one of the walls providing commentary on the guac. That being said, this is a great huge layout that has nice lighting, swanky and comfy seating, and can accommodate groups from small to extra large. The service is friendly and quick, and their chips and salsa/white sauce are delicious, but lack spice… I swear it’s not in my head, they have gotten more mild on the salsa front… The menu is definitely stepping up and the dishes while still offering the traditional favorites, have much more elevated and high quality items. Consequently it seems the prices are stepping up slightly as well… It’s looking more and more like an Uncle Julios, but it still has that old mexi-style charm. Where else can you find perfect jumbo margs and 32 oz. dos equis?! The Plaza del Mar is delicious but very creamy and rich, so I only recommend this if you like seafood, but don’t care about the healthy aspect of seafood haha. I was a little disappointed because the description and picture shows mango salsa as part of the dish, but unfortunately it came without in reality and was definitely lacking that fruit acidity.

First time here. My girlfriend really likes the enchiladas. I ordered a combo of a quesadilla, burrito and chille relleno. My dish was horribly bland. The burrito was just chicken. No rice, no beans. And it Literally had Italian marinara sauce on it. I mean oregano and all. There was no mexican flavor at all. The relleno sauce was okay but again the tortilla had only their stock chicken in it. The quesadilla was just chicken with a tiny amount of cheese. I wonder of the kitchen staff even eats this stuff. It gets two stars because the enchaladas are tasty, but beware their combo plates. And don’t ask me why Ragu was on a burrito.

The food here is just bland. That’s not good for any kind of food and especially disappointing for Mexican food which usually has such great flavor. I am not even a huge spicy food-lover so you know if I think it’s bland, it’s bad. I thought maybe the first time I went it was just a bad day in the kitchen. Maybe they ran out of a critical spice. But I went back for lunch a few weeks later with coworkers and it was still extremely bland, and this was after I deliberately ordered something claiming to be spicy, which normally I would avoid. Service was fine and atmosphere is ok– although the acoustics are kind of loud in here. But that can’t make up for tasteless food. I won’t be coming back a third time unless my coworkers insist.

I like this location much more than Newport News location. I went for lunch and the staff is more attentive and the restaurant is maintained much better. The food is only slightly better. I got fajitas and they were alright. The plate of stuff to put on the fajitas was one of those plates that look deep but are shallow.

They started skimping on the meals and raising prices at this location, I don’t know about other locations but good Mexican meals aren’t this expensive. There are a bunch in this area so avoid this place.

The food is always great, drinks are great, what I don’t think is that great is the fact that every time I come in instead of being greeted I encounter the hostess on her phone and jumping after she finally notices we have walked in. I have noticed many new employees and I must say it just keeps getting worse. The servers are slow and seem to give you an attitude when you ask for napkins or more soda. We used to come here at least 3 times a month when the staff made you feel welcomed, there are still a few hostess and servers that do. The manager is also very welcoming and appreciative. Just the new folks are messing it up.

This place has so so Mexican food they do not know what green chili is they do not know how to make chile rellenos correctly as when I ordered mine it was soggy and I asked for frief but I guess that’s how fried comes«soggy.» I don’t think people out here know exactly what true Mexican food is because this place does not have true Mexican food. Such a shame

If I could give negative stars, I would. I’ve never seen such complete disregard for people. We got seated and ordered drinks. I order water, which ended up being water and soda mixed. Which was fine, just order another. He also set it on on my menu while I was looking at it. Again, no big deal but still kind of annoying. He brought chips and set the bowl right in front of my 7 month old who of course grabbed the bowl and knocked them over. None of this bothered me that much. Until he brought out scalding hot queso and again set it right it front of my child. Who reaches out and grabs the bowl, in turn spilling it all over his tiny hands. I’m livid. I clean my crying son and leave. My husband follows with our stuff. I go back inside and ask to speak with a manager, who wasn’t there today. I begin explaining the situation to the hostess and the server comes over. She begins saying something to him in Spanish. I go to leave until the server tried defending himself. He says«Well, he grabbed the chips too.» To which I replied«Which should have been reason enough for you to think ‘Hm, I shouldn’t set something so hot in front of a baby’.» He rolls his eyes. I tell him not to roll his eyes, because if he had gotten burned I would be suing him. I go to leave again, hearing the server say«Be more careful with your kid next time.» And the hostess laughing. I cannot believe how unprofessional they were. I will be speaking with a manager. The server and hostess should be fired. They laughed us out of the restaurant and took no responsibility for what had happened.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Hampton roads. This atmosphere is nice with Ancient Aztec statues and designs all over the restaurant. The food is really good and has been very consistent. The serving portions are healthy so you won’t leave hungry. The bar area is nice as well. It is separated from the restaurant by a half wall and has nice heavy chairs to sit in. Now when I say heavy I mean HEAVY. Like it surprises me every time go how heavy they are but its a good thing to know what your sitting on is well made and sturdy. The drinks are excellent. From the margaritas to the marga-ronas(margarita with a corona bottle in it) the drinks taste good and have a nice amount of alcohol in them. The service has ALWAYS been great and the food is brought out in a timely manner. With inexpensive price tag I have to give this restaurant five stars. Te gusta esta restaurante de México!

Great food and atmosphere. Homemade flour tortillas with the Fajitas for two was on special and could of fed 3 – 4 people. I think I like this location better than the Chesapeake Square restaurant.

I had lunch at this restaurant and it was very disappointing. Being Mexican and returning a whole plate of food must mean you need to step up your food game :/ I ordered the camarones al mojo de ajo(shrimp bathed in garlic sauce) which is really delicious when seasoned and cooked correctly. I was so excited to have Mexican food since I hadn’t ate it in a while, I waited plenty since service was lacking only to be handed a plate with mushy rice topped with horribly seasoned shrimp. One bite was enough. I also tasted the burrito… the meat was like tasteless rubber. I felt like the only reason people come here is for the decorations which are not even that great. It reminded me of Montezuma’s revenge them park ride from knot’s berry farm in California. This is not authentic Mexican food… its a watered down American version just like their salsa… it’s not salsa if its watery, bland, and has no kick… just saying :/

I visited yesterday for my friends birthday dinner. Service and food was horrible. I haven’t been to this location in quite some time(about a year) and things have changed for the worse. I ordered a margarita(the cheapest one being 10 dollars) and it was super sweet and had little to no alcohol in it. I had it returned. My burrito San Jose was filled with mostly beans and practically nothing else. Also, the waitress could barely understand us and was rude. I wouldn’t recommend this location! If i could give zero stars, I would.

Enjoyed a great meal with my better half. The restaurants appearance and menu has been updated. I enjoyed the shrimp tacos and my entrée. This place never disappoints.

Quick hits on my latest visit to Plaza Azteca: Positives: – Really tasty + hot food. Similar to most of the Mexican restaurants. Enjoyed eating a meal, along with a large liter mug of beer. – Fast service and friendly service. Waitress was excellent! Some of the folks at the table had ‘special requests” and she got them all with no problems. Only negative is that you might have to wait in line for a bit on peak hours as it is a popular place. But that is about it on the neg. Side. Overall, 3.5 stars and I will definitely be back again sometime! Nice place to eat. :-)

This is my go-to margaritas spot. I went last night with a couple of my friends and was a little disappointed in our experience. We sat outside because it was a BEAUTIFUL night with perfect weather. While I waited for my friends I noticed a terrible smell when I sat on the patio. There was an overwhelming smell of either old beer or vomit… or both. It also took our server a long time to greet me and bring me and take my drink order. It seemed like he waited for the rest of my table to join, but I would have purchased an appetizer if he had come by my table earlier. Once the rest of my table arrived, service was pretty smooth. I would suggest wearing or bringing bug spray if you choose to sit outside, there were terrible mosquitos that came out when the sun started to go down. They have a pretty wide variety of margaritas and other drinks. I’d recommend the classic margaritas on the rocks, texas style marg, or the beer margarita. Even though my experience was not fantastic last night, it won’t prevent me from going back again.

I had a hankering for some nachos. Although, I love me some Taco Bell, I decided to venture outside of my «taco bell» food group comfort zone and go back to the basics with some steak fajita nachos at Plaza Azteca. I called in an order for pick up since I was working in Hampton for the day… and off I went. I didn’t have to wait too long… about 5 minutes when I walked in. I’m pretty prompt — I was there pretty much right when they opened. I know — I’m that annoying person standing at the door watching the keys turn as they barely unlock… hey business is business… Never the less, the nachos were delicious. The chips were crispy and not overcooked. Not too much cheese. They totally satisfied my craving. The only thing I didn’t understand is why I got a side of chips to go with my nachos. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.
