I came to this place when it first opened and was able to order rolls(not under all you can eat) when I dined in. Now if you only want two rolls they do not allow for you to dine in. Kind of disappointing and rude. Not allowing me to eat in your establishment if I know I don’t eat enough sushi to fulfill the«all you can eat» price is crazy. I was with someone who was wanting all you can eat, but then we both had to end up ordering out.

Eaten here twice. Once, when it first opened and today. The first time was ok. My daughter enjoyed it. Refills were replenished. Server checked on us frequently. This time, sadly, was terrible. A friend and I ordered 2 dishes at once. We each got ONE dish and had to wait almost 20 mins for the second. All the while, my friend who could see into the kitchen saw our second dish sitting in the window the entire time. For some reason or another, they just kept serving people around us and not even bothered to pick up our dishes. Finally, the manager brings us the same 2 plates that had been in the window for 20 mins. Server couldn’t speak let alone understand English. We only could order if we flagged her down, she never checked on us. Wasn’t happy with the service at all. It really should be recommended that servers have a good sense of hospitality. This one had absolutely none.

I went to Sushi King for my sister’s birthday and it was not good. The price is a rip-off considering how much food one actually eats. For example, my wife and I ordered volcano roll, california roll, and fried rice. That is all we ate for $ 40.00. However, we did sample other dishes. Yes, this is AYCE but if you do not eat all of your food then you have to pay extra. So, ordering and trying different things went out the window. Everything is frozen. The spring rolls tasted like they came from Sam’s Club. The cabbage and carrots inside the spring rolls were mush. The crab rangoon is actually better at the traditional Chinese take-out places. It actually tasted frozen. The experience was OK. It was presented to me that you order what you want and the food keeps coming. That would have been ok if we did not have to wait about 20 minutes before our waiter came back to the table. Then we had to wait another 15 – 20 minutes for the food to come. I get a portion of the $ 18.00 was for the experience but it is not worth it.

My absolute favorite… For the price, this place is the best. Sushi, hibachi, appetizers, salads, soups… all for one decent price, and it is made to order. The sushi is fresh and tastes great and the other menu items are just as good. It’s always fresh and the service is good, too.

We went back last Saturday and unfortunately the service wasn’t as great as it was the first time. The food also was different. My steak hibachi was probably over 2⁄3 smaller than any other portion I’ve received. and I am speaking mainly of the vegetables. The spring rolls now only come in orders of one. really odd to only bring out one small spring roll per order. Waste of a plate to me. Our server was inattentive and didn’t speak great English; it was hard to understand each other. He spent a lot of time at the counter by the kitchen and I am not sure what he was doing. He didn’t check on us much for food refills, table clearing, or drink refills. He tipped my cup and nearly spilled water all over my lap– which I am not too mad at but it didn’t add much to the already declining experience. Our last appetizer was forgotten, he never placed the order. BIGPLUS is that the froyo was super good this go around. Getting it out of the machine is pretty hilarious, I think it’s too thick to be in a soft serve machine. Tasty, nonetheless. Hopefully we get better food and service next time.

The Sushi King locations have been hit or miss for me lately; especially the miss I had and wrote about in Williamsburg. Even this location. But I have to say that they are making positive changes that are bettering their brand. My last visit with them seemed to be a very pleasant experience, with great service, fresh food, and an updated help yourself buffet to salad, cold appetizers, and dessert + Ice cream. The area where the old bar used to be is freshly renovated, I suggest seating in this area to risk any old and busted seats from the retired restaurant before Sushi King’s existence there. They also have a meeting room and patio. On the peninsula, I think I would come back here again before the other two. Newport News hasn’t let me down… but the ambiance of Hampton’s newly renovated section and help yourself part of the buffet is pleasant and made enough of a difference for return visits. I still say its the best deal in town for all-you-care-to-eat sushi, hot dishes, and more.

Had lunch at 1:00 our hostess was completely cold when we ask for a booth she sat us at one that had no utensils, there booths look horrible seat was torn. Our waiter got another family’s order before ours he didn’t even ex knowledge us until after I said something. My shrimp hibachi was cold our food took forever and as we left we noticed all employees looked mad no one bid us farwell even the manager looked mad as we left!!! After we ate we had to run to a Target cause we got the runs not sure if we got sick cause of my adittude or what but for us both to have the runs after we eat was weird. Do not plan on going back here at all!!! Not warm or welcoming at all!!!

I have eaten here 2x and the service was okay drinks were awful and the food was just okay. I went in there tonight because I needed to use the restroom. Now I know most places you need to be a customer and knowing that I told my daughter to wait for me in the entryway. My plan was to take a quick shopping break and grab a drink, that way I wasn’t just using their restroom. While I’m in the restroom 2 of the 3 hostesses standing there doing absolutely nothing started talking loudly about it not being a public restroom and being snotty right in front of my daughter. After my daughter told them about themselves I came out and we left. The two running their mouths had disappeared from the hostess stand. I will not be back at all. Those employees didn’t know what my intentions were and they chose to make assumptions. I don’t need to spend my hard earned money at a place like that.

I was here last night and I will admit that it is very good for Hampton. I usually go to the one in Newport News, even though it’s farther away, but my friends wanted to go there but it ended up working out. The quality was very good and pleased my standards. The only thing that irked me was that some of the things were in the buffet area that the other ones don’t have. The buffet had my personal favorite, salmon bowl which is spicy crabmeat filling wrapped in salmon, sashimi salad, avocado salad, yellowtail, peppered tuna and icecream. I’m bummed that I found that it was there last, after I had just eaten a lot. I had shuma and crab rangoons for appetizers and rolls: White dragon toll(delicious), sashimi roll(delicious), orchard roll(good), dynamite roll(good but had a lot of wasabi inside.

All you can eat sushi? Yes please! Nice location. Didn’t experience the slow service so many others complain about. We got are food very fast. I like the menu, had some very good items on there. I will always order edamame if a place has them. Perfectly steamed and salted. Now I can’t remember what rolls i got but they were ate good. Spicy tuna is always a hit. Got fried rice for the daughter and that worked well. She loves rice, in any type and form. I would probably come back here after I’ve tried all places in the peninsula town center. Still got some places to go. But if I’m in the mood for sushi I’ll most likely to go here for my fix(most of the time is the spicy tuna that I need).

Price is great. Sushi quality isn’t the best but not the worst either. Also, all the seats are very worn down, they could use a slight update.

Omg! Roach city! You know you have a serious problem if you have bug zappers on the cook line in the back. Gross… food is terrible.

Previous visits have been good for the value but today the owner was present and it showed. Very fresh and tasty. Beautiful presentation and a whole new kitchen staff. I’m eager to see if they keep it rolling while the owner isn’t looking on.

Terrible service, mediocre food. I have been to another Sushi King but this one is closer to home so I looked forward to coming for lunch(I am currently waiting, ten minutes so far, for my first sushi roll to arrive at the table) but I will not be back. The food looks alright but the service is so bad that I cannot imagine ever recommending this place to a friend. UPDATE: So I walked into this Sushi King an hour and twenty minutes ago. I have only stayed out of curiosity regarding how long the service would actually take. I have managed to receive a plate of seaweed salad and a roll so far. Still waiting on my second roll. It’s getting to the point that I actually HAVE to leave so I can get on with my day. Oh well.

I used to go to the sushi king in Norfolk all the time and loved it. This sushi king is ten minutes from my house and I would still rather cross the water to Norfolk. Everything that was tempura or fried was grossly undercooked and soggy instead of crunchy. There was 1 other couple eating when we came in so I don’t understand why the food wasn’t even half-assed cooked. The Richmond roll I ordered sat in the back until it was a room temperature coagulation of mush. I had to gag down the one piece I tried and left the rest. The ladies restroom is a disaster, the toilet paper rolls are sitting on the floor that probably hast been mopped in a month, it’s disheveled and dirty. The tiles along the walls in the dining room are held on by scotch tape and falling off. Definitely not worth almost 20 dollars a person. I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

Pretty standard for the all you can eat sushi kind of place— had 5 of the special rolls and were decent. As expected, lots of rice and sauces with small amounts of fish. Service and flow was really slow. Cool setup inside from previous Italian restaurant. Fun to check out but if you want sushi, go to a different sushi place for much better quality.

My overall experience here was just average. We were seated for 10 minutes before any server greeted us or asked for a drink order. We made sure to made eye contact with every one of them to get them to notice us. The appetizers were pleasing. The sushi was just so-so. Like others have mentioned before, the sushi is filled with a lot of rice and fluff(sauces, crunchy stuff, etc) and not a huge amount of fish. The yakisoba came out on a small plate. I didn’t mind that it was a small portion because that allowed me to try a good amount of things on the menu. Overall, I am not sure the $ 17.99 All You Can Eat price was worth it. If anything, I would go during lunch next time because it is $ 12.99. This was not the best sushi place, but it is not the worst.

This place was just OK. I agree with the other reviewers that there wasn’t enough fish and too much rice in the rolls. The garden salad was fine and the spring rolls were meh. Overall the place looked nice, but in my particular booth, the vinyl seat was all ripped up. For $ 12, I may or may not be back. We’ll see.

I have been at the one on Jefferson and now the new one at Peninsula town Center and it’s as amazing as the 1st one. $ 17.99 per person is so worth it. You can definitely eat more than $ 17.99! The best appetizer for me is the Fried Calamari. The staff are wonderful and always there for you when you are ready to order another round. Very clean restaurant. I am definitely coming back to this location.

Two strikes and you’re out. Visited on a Thursday night, very sparse crowd — you think service would be a little bit faster. Not so much. Appetizers came fairly quickly. And then the interminable wait ensued. 30 minutes of watching our waitress deliberately walk past us again and again this is supposed to be an all-you-can-eat buffet — apparently all you can eat is one order. This is the second time this is happened we should’ve learned from the first. And seeing that I was agitated about it you think they might’ve tried to make good — again not so much. It’s pretty obvious they just don’t care. Or are incompetent. Or both. Save yourself the frustration or like we did the meltdown of a one-year-old who had to sit there and patiently wait for nothing to happen … Avoid this place like the plague!
