What fun! Came through Hampton and took my awesome daughter out for a special dinner. Heard a lot of great things about the new Deadrise at Fort Monroe and we were anxious to go give it a shot. We had a wonderful dinner and a great time. Pro’s: Nice and comfortable atmosphere with a nice view of the water. Very professional and friendly staff. Service was excellent! The place was packed so we sat at the bar and it was very comfortable and a awesome bartender. Huge portions, we had two entrees and both were big enough for two people, especially the seafood platter, HUGE! The sides were plentiful and very well prepared. I loved the fact that one of the sides was black beans and rice. This is one of my favorites either with a steak or seafood. The cocktails were a good pour and our water glass was always refilled. Bathrooms clean and overall the place just had a good vibe. The entrée I had was a blackened Tuna and it was a large portion cooked to perfection and tasted good. All the customers looked very happy and the food coming out looked well prepared. The clam strips were the largest I have ever had and were delicious. A must try! There is no doubt that we will be back and I can see why the place was packed even on a Wed. Overall the Deadrise is great. BIGPRO! I hate to mention this because this is a good seafood restaurant and the last thing you would want to brag about is French fries. BUT!!! My daughter and I have to say that these were THEBESTFREAKINFRIESINTHEWORLD! They take a fresh potato and cut it into six wedges, fry, and then season with what I thought was sea salt and pepper. I could be wrong, but I think that was it. At 54 years old I can honestly say these were the best things I have ever had. They are so good I would go there just for the fries. If you go, make sure you try these delights. Unbelievably good! Another BIGPRO! I have to make a special mention about how good the sides are, which is not that typical at most seafood restaurants. The mixed grill vegies could not have been any better. Everything seems very fresh, delicious and well prepared Con’s: The Calamari was overcooked and breaded too heavy. The kicker was that it was not even served with marina sauce. Some sort of white sauce that I can only describe as Yuk. The biggest no no in Calamari is to not serve it Marinara sauce. Fine to offer other choices but the appetizer should always be served with a quality marinara sauce. The thought of such a good place screwing up something as simple as Calamari did not make any sense to me. I was very polite but did address this issue with our awesome bartender who took it with a grain of salt. We LOVE Calamari and make it often, it is a simple dish that when a chef tries to get fancy, usually screws it up. This is not really a con, but the lack of broiled offerings is not so good. The Deadrise is basically a fried seafood place with some blackened or grilled options. If you love fried seafood you will love this place. I like it, but to get a full five star for a seafood restaurant, there would need to be a variety of broiled options. Lastly, the food was delicious, however whether or not the staple dishes like Tuna are fresh or fresh frozen is something you will have to decide. I have had more fresh Tuna than you can image, off the boat fresh. The Tuna dish I had did not have off the boat texture or taste. But it was delicious none the less. Honestly most customers probably would not know

The sunset was fantastic. Service was excellent. The Poke’ was the best I’ve had outside of Hawaii and the steamed mussels were to die for! There is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the waterfront scenes and you can tell this is a local favorite as it was very out-of-the –way yet busy. There is some real talent working in the kitchen here!
