Good selection of things needed while renting a house on Kaua’i. This area is much improved from 15 years ago. Lots of organic choices for dairy, fruits, veggies, and brands that you’d recognize from the main land. Great half and half, ice creams, chocolate cake, macadamia nuts, island salts, coffee… Fast friendly check out with free bags. The meat section could offer more variety. But, it’s better than driving further for food.

For being in a remote part of a remote island, this supermarket is very well stocked and their prices are surprisingly reasonable. They have everything you would need from a Safeway with about the same quality and cost. Don’t let the convenience or size of it fool you if you’re in need in Hanalei, this is a legitimate business. Also having a jetflix(redbox clone) kiosk to rent movies is a nice feature.

Tried their poke. Not great, but fruits were fresh. Papaya was delish. This is our 4th time on the island and nowadays we are able to find more locally grown produce like cucumbers and tomatoes.

From SoCal… so I guess I didn’t experience the sticker shock that some have gotten hit with. Prices seemed reasonable since we were on the West side of the North Shore. People were friendly, and there is a deli inside. Quick Grinds~

The staff seems overworked and stressed. If you go in towards closing expect a lot of stink eye and snarls. Best prices on grocery items though.

It’s ironic that people retire in in Hawaii, given that the sticker shock of everyday items would send many to the grave that much faster — $ 4.75/gallon of gas, $ 22.00 for a small bottle of olive oil. That’s why there’s a Big Save. ‘You Save(though not so big)’ in comparison with some other places in northern Kauai, but in comparison to other groceries outside of Hawaii, Big Save i probably en par with a local drugstore or convenience grocery, or is a little higher. There’s everything you could ever want here — healthy and fresh looking garlic, coffee filters and flip flops. Ahi Poke made fresh in the deli section, local baked goods. Big Save’s centrally located among the tourist area and is smartly stocked with things that visiting tourists would want(read: lots of booze and sunscreen products). Very convenient among a mecca of coconut sunscreen, neon shorts, shaved ice, ove-rsweetened Mai Tais and mediocre restaurants.

Pretty expensive grocery store… They have a good selection of fruits and vegetables and they are well located in Hanalei Bay. Apparently, there’s a cheaper and bigger grocery store in Princeville if you need to do serious groceries.

Bought wine… cashier got weird about it(«No, she can’t carry it, you have to carry it.»).

Just a typical grocery store. Kind of on the smaller end, compared to something like Safeway or similar, but full of foods at decent prices(I guess). They had a lot of Kona coffees, etc, which was cool. Not much more to say, really…

A grab and go kinda place. Popular with tourists who are staying in houses nearby. Would reccommend you travel a bit towards Princeville and visit Foodland. Better selection, prices, etc.

A great find. They have a deli counter inside that’ll make you a big sandwich for $ 5.99, which is a steal in Hawaii. Plus, you can pick up a package of cookies for after your sandwich. We bought sandwiches here to take with us during our rental kayak ride. Also a great place to stock up on bottled water and other snacks.

in kauai, i didnt stumble upon a single abc store or such, so we headed out here, since it was closest to stock up on bottled water and snacks during our stay. a bit of an older run down market, and it wasn’t particularly cheap, but i liked how they had a sushi spot where you see someone actually making the sushi. didnt get to try it though as i had just eaten, but great place to buy some grocery goods.

A grab and go kinda place. Popular with the tourists who are staying in houses or condos. Most of the stuffs are pricey compared to foodland but if you need something quick this is the place.

It’s a grocery store + drug store + hardware store. It had DayQuil for when I got sick after some d-bag on the plane hacked up his lungs all over me from Baltimore to Phoenix. It had shrimp chips to soothe the sting of being sick in paradise. It had adorable barefoot keiki running around giggling and spraying each other with water guns. I approve.

We were warned on arrival that grocery prices were going to be outrageous but that Safeway offered the best prices. So we shopped there initially but popped in here last night and were pleasantly surprised. We found food and(especially) drink were not only cheaper than Safeway but also cost less than the mainland. This is our new go-to place for supplies.

It’s a grocery store people. Things that you must buy: 1. Hawaiian Poke from the deli. I’m not kidding you, it’s beyond delicious. Better than most restaurants. Perfect blend of furikake, sea weed, ahi, sesame, green onion, etc. Watch out, it’s ADDICTING! Grab some and hit the beach or enjoy while drinking beer from the lanai. 2. Kauai Kookies from the cookie aisle. They’re made on Kauai and I swear they put some Hawaiian crack in there, because in one week we went through nearly 4 boxes. My personal favorite flavor is the Chocolate Macadamia nut. My husband actually crushed some up and poured milk on them. We’re gluttons. 3. Drinks — Koloa local rum(it’s sort of pricey $ 32 a bottle, but it’s local deliciousness), POG, Wimea Lilikoi Wheat Ale. Save yourself some $ by cooking in a few nights if you’re visiting. The fish is fresh and hit a local farmer’s market for some fresh veg.

Basic small grocery store. Tight isles but it has good selection of meats, fruits, veggies, beer, wine Kept me well stocked for the week.

This is a small Big Save so you won’t find a big selection here. It’s pricey, which is pretty standard for Big Save, so you won’t save much(if at all). However, it’s a good place to stop for a few essentials if you are out in the Hanalei/Princeville area. It’s got a Subway built in which is an added bonus if you’re looking for sandwiches because otherwise they don’t have a deli or a bakery. Really, it’s little more than a corner store with a meat department. However, it’s better than nothing. I’ll stock the car with snacks next time though and forgo the high prices and limited selection.

Not a BIG Save, but a big lifesaver… The prices are comparable to the bigger market in Princeville, so its still a bit of a ripoff if you are used to US Mainland prices. The lifesaver part??? Imagine yourself after a hard day of surfing and snorkeling, relaxing in front of Bubba’s Burgers. What? No beer on the menu? Grab a sixpack at Big Save across the street while your burgers are being prepared. Perfection!
