This is not your typical Chinese fast food restaurant, if that’s what you are after than Panda Express might be your best bet. This place serves authentic Taiwanese dishes just like back home. I had beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken, it was tasty. The fact they use higher quality of beef to make the beef noodle and no MSG on any of their dishes make this place even more special. Owners are super friendly and take pride in their food, can’t wait to come back again. Next time I am gonna give my daughter a fooducation in Taiwanese cuisine starting with the oyster omelette.

Came in expecting it to be really great. Not knowing the restaurant closes at 8. We came in at 7:20 to almost empty buffet line table. We ordered 2 combo A’s and the food was cold. The meet was a bit fatty, if I lived in the area, I would like to eat at an earlier time.

Overall, the best Taiwanese food I’ve had for awhile in LA. And it’s near my office, yay! Onto the food… — The oyster omelet pancake(蚵仔煎): large and really authentic flavored sauce! — The stir fried rice noodles(炒米粉): lots of veggies, a little oily but that’s what made it taste like Taiwan! — Taiwanese sticky rice(筒仔米糕) was just awesome! Once again, yummy sauce! — And it’s pretty hard to ever go wrong with braised pork rice(滷肉飯). And the owners are super friendly and excited for ppl to enjoy their food! Will definitely become part of my lunch rotation!

As a Chinese that living in America for 3 years, this restaurant is the most beautiful place that I have ever been in America, for the authentic Chinese food and the enthusiastic people. You can taste the most delicious Chinese food here rather than go to China.

The host explained the only food available to order from their menu was the fried rice special. All the prepared food bins were empty. We left without the ordering.

Have eaten here twice now and both were solid especially at this price! The niu rou mian is what you expect and love! It is not as salty as I like personally but my friend thought it was great for her and I think I oversalt a bit. The best part for me was the tenderness of the beef pieces. They were really good! I had the chow mein here another time. Solid chow mein, they use thick noodles here. Generous portions. Friendly owners, good food, good price :)

Thursday 1230pm, Thanksgiving day It is nearly impossible to please my mom when it comes to restaurants, partly because the food she cooks at home is so natural it’s bland. I took her to Lucky number 1 because reviews hail this establishment as an authentic Taiwanese restaurant. From the outside the restaurant is as Taiwanese as you can get, with signs hauled all the way from Taiwan proclaiming Taiwanese dishes. The ingredients are locally procured, and the owner requests the biggest eggs from his seller to make the tea eggs. The inside looks a bit like a take-out place but the menu boasts of dishes like Oyster omelette($ 7), pork belly rice($ 5), and Taiwanese tube rice($ 3.75). The Pork belly melts on your tongue — it’s just delicious. I also really enjoy the Sun Moon Lake Iced tea($ 2), it’s like sweet tea but Asian. The whole time my mom was speaking to the Taiwanese couple who owns the restaurant about stuff and things my limited Mandarin could not comprehend. The chef, Kevin, used to study some kind of agriculture/farming and in their conversation my mom was pleased to hear that no MSG or GMO products are used at this establishment. Parking is free, and although it can get crowded in the plaza Lucky Number 1 has designated parking for its customers. My mom admits that my dad will like this place with its natural flavors and has snagged business cards to hand out to her friends. That’s saying something.

4 stars on Unilocal certainly had me wanting to try this place, but I waited for a wonton soup for a record breaking 45 mins today at lunch time, in the end, I had to changed it to go and ate it at work. For whatever the reason,(I know I have a gullible face), the lady(owner/waitress) kept telling me that my wonton soup was being made while in reality, multiple beef noodle soup were being made for a group of people who came later than me. I came in at 12:10, she told me to sit and it would be ready soon. I understand they had to cook for the ppl who were ahead of me, but then she brought several bowls of beef noodle soup to people who came after me, I know that because their table is right next to me and there were only six tables. By the time I realized what was going on, I had invested my lunch time and needed to be back to work, preferably with some food or I’d be working empty till 5:30. On my way back, I comforted myself with the image of nice heaping savory wonton soup but unfortunately that was not the case. To make matter worse, the large wonton soup I ordered was very meager in content, with 8 tiny wontons all broken and 3 pieces of bok choy leaves. 2⁄3 of it was clear liquid broth which had a weird taste, at first I thought, no MSG does not mean you can forgo the flavoring. But it wasn’t just lack of flavoring, it was something else. I wasn’t able to put my finger on it then, now I think about it, it tasted like bottled water that’s been sitting out in a car for days. Know that I would not write this if the food was passable, because bad food is the last straw for me. As matter of fact, I wonder if this wonton soup would get the approval from Ginger, a pet pig of a pig loving relative who turned porcine in his dotting age. She probably would rather munch on a raw potato than to be subject to this weird tasting liquid. On top of all, parking for this little strip mall is not easy, I heard the lady telling the patrons«just park anywhere», that would be fine except there weren’t any left, two vans for the next door adult day care double parked leaving the small parking lot even less accessible.

First time here. Don’t be fool by the fast food appearance. It actually has a Taiwanese food menu. The Taiwanese owners are super friendly. The owner Kevin has a bio chem background so he’s very careful when selecting his ingredients. The ducks came from a farm that has a pond. The noodle is all natural. The beef is high grade of angst beef. The black tea is directly imported from TW which reminds me of the familiar taste I once had. I’m not a good writer but I’m picky when it comes to food. I could tell you there is NOMSG in their food. I’m glad we found a restaurant where we don’t have to worry about what the kids will put in their body. Will definitely come back and try their food again. Totally love the black tea and wonton soup.

Who would’ve known that this small Chinese take-out store serves good Taiwanese food! If you want the typical orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, and chow-mein, feel free to get those. However, if you’re unfamiliar with Taiwanese food, then you should definitely give it a try! Their $ 5 Braised Pork over rice with an egg and cabbages on the side is quite delicious. I want to try their Pork Belly rice bowl next time. Everything is pretty affordable. Their iced tea is really good too(for only $ 2). The best part is probably the owners(lovely couple!). They gave us free drinks to try, which my coworker loved so much that she ended up buying one to go. They also handed out fruits for free to their customers. I guess they had an abundant from their trees at home. Located inside a small plaza so parking isn’t an issue. Accepts both cash and credit card($ 0.50 surcharge). Has tables inside if you want to dine in. Will definitely come back to this hidden gem!

We followed Unilocal’s practically 5-star reviews here and were not disappointed! The food sure is authentically Taiwanese but first, you have to get past a few things:(1) «Lucky Number 1,» seriously?(2) the read-made food court-style setup is for folks who just want generic Chinese food, and(3) it’s really a hole-in-the-wall in a corner of a pretty dead small plaza at night. After that it’s all up for me. The owner/chef Kevin is very friendly and extremely proud of his ingredients and traditional recipes. Both he and his wife were super hospitable. The oyster pancake(and sauce) was awesome. Fried tofu, braised pork rice were also very authentic and tasted healthy and not greasy at all. Everything we had brought out childhood memories that even I was surprised at. Their food is better and better tasting than a lot of Taiwanese places even in SGV. I definitely plan to frequent this place and bring my parents.

In my opinion, Unilocal was created for gemstones like this. Lucky Number 1 may look like your typical Chinese takeout, what separates them from the rest is their LEGIT made-to-order Taiwanese food. Owned and operated by a Taiwanese couple, this spot serves up dishes for anyone craving authentic dishes like oyster omelet, braised pork over rice, basil popcorn chicken, fried tilapia, and many, many others. They also serve the standard Americanized Chinese food(orange chicken, bbq pork, etc) but I honestly didn’t even touch that side of the menu. It’s like Sue’s kitchen, but with no MSG and friendly service.

So glad I found this restaurant! I was craving Taiwanese food and for some reason there aren’t many in this location. I did try one other place, but oh boy it was not good. Anyway, such a friendly couple who own the store. The wife is very talkative and kind. She gave me a drink while I was waiting for my take-out. Can’t wait to try other items on the menu!

They give you really small portions, food is cold because the light they use is not strong enough(Sanitary flag there to me) They accept cards but use the phone application with square so if your comfortable use it if not bring cash. Also beware of the more rice than chow mein trick they do, I asked for half and half and she gave me 70⁄30 a lot of rice and little chow mein. One other thing I noticed they play favorites with customers they know or regulars, I finished paying and there was a man next in line and he ordered same thing I did but gave him a lot more! The cashier was saying oh wow a lot for you so you can work hard. No public restrooms, overpriced food not really worth coming in my opinion.

Awesome cozy place~ Highly Recommended. why? you will get yummy food, fresh ingredients and authentic flavor with quality. !!NOMSG Added! For this place, you can’t judge the book base from its cover. You HAVE to step-in, and shall discover a loving place with great hospitality! From the standard Chinese Combo Meal(rice/noodle + either two items, three items, etc) To Taiwanese signature dishes! And everything is made from scratch, you will not get processed/packaged foods! Yes! that goes for«Pop-Corn or/Orange Chicken», one bite you will know the difference. Fresh chicken meat, lightly battered, great taste, because its not ordered from some factory! You can taste that familiar flavor from the careful blend of basil & seasoning… Again… !!NOMSG Added! Also the oyster-pancake, all ingredients are fresh, and the item is made-to-order. you will find tears in your eyes, when you taste the specialty red sauce. Its Homey and Yummy!

Just came back from our first visit to this authentic Taiwanese restaurant and we will for sure be coming back. What a find in the south bay and truly hope word gets out about this little Taiwanese mom and pop place. Two things first before I go into the review: First I need to point out they have a rating of A! what Asian places do you see with rating of A :) This A rating I think is in agreement with their«no MSG» everything is back to good material, foundation philosophy. Second, they’re hi-tech! As in they have a Line account for their restaurant so you can text them your to go order and what not! How cool is that! and now on to the rest… Food: This is 100% authentic Taiwanese. It tastes home cooked Taiwan and true to their advertising, tasted no MSG and after the meal we weren’t thirsty at all. We ordered fried tofu — just the right amount of crispyness with the tofu and sauce was just the right amount of flavoring to complement the tofu. oyster pancake — i would say the best I’ve had around in LA. Chewy, eggy, and the home made sauce was simply delicious. The batter was really yummy. beef noodle soup — you can tell the broth is home made. For people who are used to the super salty version from Sue’s kitchen, they may think this is bland but for those in the know, this one definitely tastes like it was made from real material. pork rice– this is the best. It was flavorful without being salty. The rice was just the perfect texture. And on top, they have the pork stew nicely packed in a sealed container that you can purchase to go(which we did!) The owners also treated us to their homemade flavored friend peanuts and black tea. Reminds me of home! and it was good. The black tea was refreshing without being overly sweet; it’s not your standard black tea from boba shop. Location and Ambience: Located in the least Asian-food populated area, you may easily have passed by the restaurant and with the name«Lucky Number 1» you might have written it off as a local Panda-express type of place. It is in a little strip mall with easy enough parking. It’s a little shop and don’t expect a fancy set up. From the outside it looks like a local Chinese-take out place. I think part of their clientele are ones who get the typical Chinese items to go. But the other part are those who are there for the Taiwanese dishes. Service: The couple who runs the place is 100% Taiwanese and their friendliness reminds me of Taiwan. Immediately when we came in, we were greeted. The owners were eager to recommend items to us and engaged us with light conversation. The food came out quickly and we were asked throughout the meal to see if we needed anything. Price: Very reasonable. Ours dishes were between $ 4 — $ 8. For the price, accessibility and with such authentic Taiwanese dishes and the friendliness of the owners, we will be coming back for sure. I’ve found another place to get authentic Taiwanese food to go! And most of all the owners are so friendly, it’s as if I’m back in Taiwan visiting!

If you’re looking for super authentic Taiwanese street food, this is the place!!! They have oyster pancakes, sticky rice, hand made pork noodles… All super delicious and at an amazing price. They don’t put msg and all their food it’s good quality and very intentional. Owners were sharing their story and they put so much love and pride into their food! You can definitely taste quality. Pork soup with Chinese herbs is a recipe passed down from a famous shop in Taiwan and took months to perfect. Pork rice bowls are mixed with a variety of rice to create the perfect almost sticky but not quite yet texture. Oyster pancake tastes just like it does in Taiwan and made with a house sauce that doesn’t use any powders! Anyways, you can see I’m a fan of this place. One of the best things is being able to order the sticky tube rice and braised pork to go in little microwave containers, packed for way freezer storage and good whenever you want! Highly recommend and love that this mom and pop store exists.

This is a legit mom-and-pop Taiwanese restaurant in the South Bay; the current owners have been at this location for 2.5 years now. Don’t be fooled by the name — Lucky Number 1 Chinese sounds like yet another Chinese-American restaurant, but it’s not. Come here for the Taiwanese food, don’t come here for your chow mein or kung pao chicken. I really enjoy the fried pork chop rice and the popcorn(salt-and-pepper) chicken. The owners are super friendly and generous. If you’re digging old-school Taiwanese in the South Bay, this is the joint I’d recommend.
