UPDATE5÷23÷15 They must have closed down, No longer there… :o( I’ve eaten at a lot of food trucks… growing up in NY I would see one that I liked and I would stalk it… so much so that I thought they would take out a restraining order against me… I’m talking to you Frank’s Fine Falafel and The Baba Ghanoush buggy” . Well I have found a new place to visit and the little trailer should be very happy that I do not have a trailer hitch on the back of my Maserati(cleverly disguised as a Honda minivan), because if I did this food trailer would be in my backyard and you all would be out of luck! Snarf! Luckily for you this trailer is safely ensconced at the food truck emporium on South High Street… The Truck in question? Taste of Soul. With Chef Ebony Amazing food, some of the best chicken wings this side of heaven(and I’ve heard Jesus makes a damn good wing). The chicken is marinated over night then floured and fried right in front of you… As for the hush puppies… let me just say that they come correct! those little balls of corn meal that look like slow witted Dunkin Munchkins are not hush puppies those are the equivalent of a vegan meatball sure they look the same but why would you put a crusty yeasty ball in your mouth? That’s what she sa… Yes, I went there. Ebony’s Hush puppies are freshly made in front of you with the flick of the wrist into the hot oil they happily fall to rise once again as a sweeter more evolved hush puppie. I also tried the fried pork chops… how do I describe those? Oh yes Yummy! perfectly breaded and crisped on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside! Taste of Soul? Should be called Heart and Soul because Chef Ebony cooks with her family’s recipes in her heart and you can taste the soul of the family in her dishes… It’s that good! You should go there now… Now I need to go find a trailer hitch :) cm

This truck is perfectly located in the Food Truck Court in Harrisonburg – just a tiny little truck with a lot of character and some great smells coming from it. You can also pick it out by the warm, friendly smiles coming from the folks that work the truck :-) We first tried the wings and had to go back for mroe we loved them that much! I’m not exaggerating when I say they are the BEST that I have ever had anywhere! We finally tried their special with the 2 meats and 2 sides and a drink deal and I was able to try the pork chops(which I had read a ton of rave reviews about on their fb pg). Very yummy, but I still think the wings are by far my favorite! I got the mac n’ cheese as a side and it was very good – more like a baked kind. The hush puppies that came with the meal were like none I have ever had before – reminded me of a funnel cake because the batter was sweet & they were deep fried – really delish! I was surprised to see their limited drink options, which did not include some good ‘olé southern sweet tea(my husband was sad about this). Their lemonade is from a mix, which I hope they change in the near future, but then again you can only do so much with a food truck with limited space. They sell some really cute mason jar glasses for your drinks, which allow you to get free refills! Overall, this is my new favorite food truck in Harrisonburg – I can’t tell enough people about it! Go there and try it for yourself – you won’t be disappointed! :-)
