Sal’s Pizza-Hartford

Not sure what to think of this place. I ordered online, then went over to the restaurant. I told them I ordered online and everyone was kind of just standing around and I didn’t see any computers around, so I wasn’t sure how they were going to see what I ordered (I now learned from the other reviewer on here that the order is faxed to them from the web site… how odd!).
They found my order and said it would be about 10 minutes. I ordered some hot wings with dipping sauce and an antipasto salad. This place is small and there really isn’t any good waiting area, which seems odd for a take out place. Has 2 rows of booths on 2 walls and the front door.
Anyways, I got the stuff and it was just… average. The salad was stuffed with all kinds of stuff and the dressing was just kind of weird… dark oil based vinaigrette?
Everyone just seemed a bit discombobulated there, like the guy asking the cashier if she swiped my credit card and I was like «whoa, I paid online! don’t swipe anything!» I mean doesn’t it show I paid already on the order?

45 minutes after my delivery order, they call me and tell me my credit card doesn’t work. No idea, but since it is just entered on a website and faxed to them, without any validation of it, maybe its because it was entered with a typo? Total crap, then I had to wait 20 more minutes.
65 minutes for a delivery of pizza 10 blocks away from me.
Regarding the food… calzone that was lukewarm, burned on the bottom, served with ice cold marinara sauce. Pizza, half tony /​half cheese, was good.

One of the better pizza places in Hartford. Really surprised they don’t offer a Margarita or White pizza. Husband loves the calzones. Can’t wait to try the stromboli.

Have been in for the lunch deal, garlic knots are fantastic! Calzones are enough for two meals. Reasonable prices.

Love this place. Got pizza on Christmas eve last year and plan on doing it again.
Recommend the godfather but haven’t had a bad slice yet.

I was sure I reviewed this place a few years ago and gave it high marks. But my old review is gone. Isn’t that odd. I came back here to update my last review because a recent visit to Sal’s was less than satisfying.
Basically what once was a pretty good pizza here was just so so. They have a good crust but the pizza wasn’t very flavorful and didn’t have the quantity and size of toppings I would like. The garlic knots didn’t have any garlic taste that I could notice. It was like eating plain bread dunked in bland tasting tomato sauce.
So another decent pizza place has lowered their ingredient quality and become like so many other pizza places before them.

Saw this on Unilocal,while I was in the area for work, figure give it a shot. I was not disappointed! Very good Gawain pizza and sausage/​mushroom was great. Defiantly will be coming back here.

Best pizza in Hartford at reasonable prices. I have been going to Sals since the first week they opened. I always make it a point to stop in when I’m in the area. I highly recommend!

I have to confess that I am addicted to Sal’s Pizza. Every time I am in town I make an excuse to stop by. The pizza is great, and me and my husband can eat a full meal for $ 7.50. You can’t beat those kind of prices. I have never had a bad slice and the people who work there are very sweet. I recommend them to everyone I know.

Pizza is best in town!!! Also comes w– garlic knots which are yummy! Reasonably prices too!

Great New York style pizzas and Italian dishes. Even nicer people. We miss you Sal’s! Come to the Bay area.
