Went back again and this tIme we ended up being seated upstairs. What a difference! Much better environment there. Food again, exceptional. Highly recommend.

Saint George bistro is a cute place with a rustic vibe in the quaint lil town of Hastings on the Hudson. First time dining here and came for restaurant week . The service, honestly, wasn’t that friendly, nobody really smiled. Ok, I mean it is a Sunday and I get depressed on Sundays too. But that’s because I go to work mon-fri, and I guarantee that the hostess and the waitress are off, if not two then definitely one weekday coming up. So Sunday sadness isn’t really a thing in restaurant life. But I digress… The menu for RW was pretty good as far as options go. There were 5 choices for both app and entrée, which I appreciate. What I didn’t really like was that 1 of these options was for an up charge. Normally, that wouldn’t bother me, except I ordered the up charged app option, the seared foie gras, and it was TINY. All caps for emphasis. I don’t mind paying extra for expensive ingredients and beautiful tasty food… but the seared foie was lacking imagination, complexity, and in my opinion, in the actual foie itself. My bf got the soup special, cream of cauliflower, and that was delicious. Entrees: I got the stew, bf got steak frittes. Steak was ok, but again minuscule. Good thing they have a copious amount of frittes to take up plate space. The bernaise sauce was ok, but could have had a bit more flavor. Fries were good. The stew was a bit too heavy for me. Heavy on salt, and the meat was fatty and rich. I guess it’s supposed to be like that, but there was nothing to cut the fat. No acid, cream, anything. Desserts were crème brûlée and profiteroles. I didn’t really care for either. I’m not a profiteroles fan to begin with, but my bf liked them. The brûlée was sooo sweet, as expected but the custard had no flavor at all. Overall, I wanted to really love this place because I love French food. My high expectations could be the reason why I didn’t fully enjoy my experience. If I ever were to come back, I’d try something from their regular menu. They do have a charming upstairs area and a nice wine selection.

What a major disappointment! We went to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with 2 other couples. Our reservations were for 7:30 on this past Sat.nite. I had been looking forward to it as we had had a great meal here when it first opened. 2 people in in our group ordered the trout special — only to find out it had been sold out — so 3 of us ended up ordering the duck special. It was supposed to come with pureed parsnips — one of my favorites. We then found out the parsnips would now be cauliflower. How someone runs out of a root vegetable is a mystery. Due to the menu change we wanted to order an additional app. of the Arctic Char tar tare but were told we had already ordered the last one. Our waitress was cheerful and delightful through all this — but we were already disappointed and we hadn’t even eaten. The apps we did have were very good — the Char was delicious — and the foie gras was great but the portion was minuscule and pricey. The Duck entrée was almost a fail. It was extremely salty, not particularly tender and just not all that great. At the end of the meal one of our party told our waitress that in light of all the disappointments and because the restaurant was lacking in so many options so early on a Sat nite — that maybe the mgr. should comp the dessert for the anniversary couple. Our waitress came back and said that the manager said no. They run out of things and that just happens. She then thought we were through with our meal and just left us the check. This was a miscommunication. We tracked down the manager who was totally unapologetic for running out of the specials, apps, and veg. When we said we rec’d our check when we weren’t finished — he then threw the waitress(who we really liked!) under the bus — and comped us to coffee, desset and a bourbon — based on her — not his poor restaurant management. Needless to say — none of us will be going back to Saint George. The management’s defensive attitude and his crappy way of treating the waitress made for an unpleasant experience.

The one time my wife and I came here for full dinner we weren’t blown away. It was good, but didn’t feel quite worthy of the ambience of the place(or the pricetag). However, we come here semi-frequently for a happy hour of drinks and charcuterie and it’s absolutely wonderful. Great selection of cheeses, pâté, etc. Absinthe is fun. It’s just charming and yummy. The one dinner we had was also quite good. Typically very-rich French. The place LOOKS like it’d have just spectacular French food so… it’s possible that I was let down by my own lofty expectations. But we definitely come here pretty frequently and always have a nice time. Even if it’s just for appetizers.

Wow! Really good! Came for my birthday dinner. The area is very quaint, as is the restaurant itself, small homely feel. We started with the chef’s tasting plate of oysters, beef tartare, and escargot. I don’t know or care for oysters so you will have to read my hubby’s review for that info. The tartare and the escargot were delicious, well seasoned. I could have filled up on bread dipped in the escargot sauce — so garlicky! For entrees we had the duck and the lamb — I normally don’t like duck as I find it kind of gamey but this was so tender and didn’t have any of that gamey taste. The lamb was also well cooked and seasoned. The side vegetables were good as well. We didn’t get any dessert, maybe next time. I only wish there were more cocktail options!

My brother had been eyeing this place for a while so today we decided to come here for brunch. I love the look of this place: the pressed tin ceilings, dark wood tones, an impressive bar in the center of the dining room. It all exuded vintage French bistro — they really cinched it. We both decided to start with their onion soup. They put a slight spin on it by adding duck bullion and confit, they also melt gruyère cheese on a large croûton instead of melting the cheese over the top. The soup was good — not overly salty which I appreciated. You can really taste the duck; the bread and cheese were just enough. I also had their omelette dish which changes daily — today’s was filled with ham, spinach, and gruyère cheese. It came with a side salad(basic greens) and a small potato pancake. The omelette was tasty — the filling was neatly packaged inside the egg which made for neater eating. The greens and potato were basic but tasty as well. We decided to have dessert and went with the profiteroles — not the most impressive ones I’ve had but good nonetheless. Service was good, and overall I had a great meal. It’s not cheap, but I would gladly come back here either for brunch or to explore their dinner offerings.

Looked for an oyster spot and found this little gem. Close to the Hastings on Hudson train station(metro north). The owner, Jason was super nice, warm. The food: we ordered oysters, pomme frites, French onion soup and the beet salad, all delicious. The wine selection is superb. It really reminds me of France. Great for a romantic night out… My husband and I will definitely be back.

What a great meal with my lovely wife. Hanger Steak and Pomme Frittes for me and Escargot and the chicken dudh. The chicken was forgotten on the order so the manager very graciously took it off the bill as well as the delicious Crème Brûlée. Great place, food atmosphere and staff

After a ridiculously long day of exploring nearly every inch of Westchester County, Saint George saved my weary soul. I originally had an 8pm reservation, around 6pm realized there was NO way I was going to be any shape to enjoy a nice meal(which seemed rather possible given the other Unilocal reviews). We popped in just after six and they accommodated the last minute change with no fuss. Seated up stairs, small view of the river and super charming décor. By 6:30 the room filled up very quickly, but the service remained polite and swift. I had the pâté(excellent, pickled radish that accompanied was a nice treat). Escargot came out bubbling in butter and herbs. Ample amount of bread was supplies to soak up butter and vehicle for pâté. I had the market fish(rainbow trout) pan fried or roasted(can’t recall) on peas, creamed leeks and pancetta. My husband had steak frite with a very, very perfect béarnaise. Too tired and full for dessert. I’ll be back to work my way through the menu.

What a wonderful wonderful place to go to for brunch! I have to admit, I’m not big into going out for brunch, because most places I have been to have just been a disaster, and it was just cheap and disappointing. But off a drunk late night whim a.k.a. great idea when you’re drunk but terrible idea to try to wake up sober/hungover…it was definitely something memorable! I made reservations(drunk the night before) for 4, and a 5th person decided to join us last minute, which they were able to accommodate for about 12:30. There was a good crowd still, and yet it seemed like the service was fully concentrated on our table, and only our table. The food was impeccable, the trout hollandaise was the most perfect combination of crispy, creamy, salty, that I have had. It sounded so good that 3 out of 5 of us ended up getting it. YUMMMM! The escargot were piping hot, perfectly seasoned, not overly salty. Perfect accommodation to the bread basket that they kept on bringing. The oysters, unfortunately were out of a few types but we ended up trying other types that were fresh and delicious as well. The bloody mary’s were made with love, garnished with pretty lemon, lime, celery, and even olives. And they weren’t stingy with the alcohol, definitely hangover cure! I even tried my cousins mimosa and is was made with fresh juice as well. And I guess my cousin has been there before where she said hi to the owner, and he must’ve overheard that it’s her birthday brunch, so he sent us over free dessert and coffee as well. Just a wonderful experience and even though this was about a month ago, it was such a great time that I remembered it just like it was yesterday! HIGHLYHIGHLYRECOMMENDED!!!

Great overall experience… Food was all cooked perfectly, service was swift and delightful. The Pumpkin Soup was delicious as was my Fluke. Cute vintage décor… Ignore the subpar reviews, as they certainly know what they are doing in the kitchen.

Terrific place that makes you feel as though you have been transported to a friendly part of Paris. If such a place exists. Good is terrific perhaps made better by the incredibly attentive staff who is welcoming and accommodating. My husband an I have been twice in the last month and believe this will be our new regular place. Would have given them 5 stars but they are missing 2 staple items off their menu to constitute a real French bistro: a good mixed greens salad and a good chicken provincial. Definitely worth the trip.

A comfortable room featuring a creative cocktail list, short list of reasonably-priced French wines, and a menu with a nice representation of French cookerie staples for a New York audience done with some flair, and specials with a farmhouse angle. I enjoyed the mussels, which had a particularly tangy broth, and the steak frites, which are offered in both an onglet and a ribeye choice — went with the latter which was a typically tasty ribeye, done just abou tright.

The dishes, like their prices, are quite rich. But still, I would go back because the room is adorable, service is attentive and attentive and, the meal was pretty good. First, the room. This is an unqualified rave. There’s a vintage French bistro theme that feels genuine and not the least bit Disneyworld. From the tin ceiling to the old bar, Saint George looks really good. Service was friendly and helpful too. I was happy with the free bread basket, which came warm with plenty of butter. Appetizers were great. The Crab Mayonnaise($ 12) was loaded with fresh crab meant and homemade mayo. The $ 8 Beef Tartare was quite large and tasty too. Both appetizers came with more bread, this time nicely toasted. Both entrees were beautifully presented. My only complaint was that they were too salty. My trout($ 25) was just a tiny bit too salty. The Pork Confit($ 22) was really salty but we ate it anyway because it was prepared so nicely — and this meal was costing us. The problem I see from the Pork Confit experience is that some of the food looks better than it tastes. This was also definitely the case with dessert. When we asked what was popular, the waiter said the Profiteroles($ 9). But these classic French cream puffs were not light and puffy. The hollowed-out choux pastry looked the part, with two puffs sliced open and stuffed with vanilla ice cream. But the pastries were heavy, gummy and totally lacking in personality. The ice cream was okay but not special. The best part was the generous drizzle of chocolate sauce. So this is what I’ll do when I go again… The Saint George menu has about a dozen appetizers and about half a dozen entrees. Next time, I will order a bunch of appetizers and skip the entrees. I’ll probably end up spending about the same but I will get more variety. Might end up with more food too. We were also smart to show up before 6:30 p.m. This was a Wednesday night and by 7:30, the place was packed. P. S. — Soda refills were free for us. That’s worth noting because it costs $ 2.75 to order a club soda or ginger ale.

This is my second time at Saint George. Each time we walked out, Ive said the same thing. Hands down best meal. We have recommended friends who feel the same way. The freshest Oysters, steak with lobster sauce, the Hudson valley duck(my favorite thing in the whole world-the duck at Saint George is everything) and duck mousse appetizer. We literally lick our plates, no shame! I do wish the desserts were more creative but I’m cool with having incredible apps and entrees for an A-okay dessert. Service was excellent, waitress and busboy worked hand in hand. I love love love Saint George. Husband ordered the old fashion drink. It was delicious and perfect. Definitely need to come back for brunch and try the Bloody Mary!

Hidden gem! This place is great. Split the steak for 2 with my boyfriend it was perfectly cooked and so tasty, had a few appetizers as well. Place may seam pricy but the quality of the food reflects the amazing-ness your getting! Can’t wait to go back love the feel and vibe of the place! Makes me feel like I’m dining outside of the United States!

Loved the ambience. But abit noisey for a Sunday night. took advantage of the $ 29.95 Restaurant week 3 course special… the onion soup was OK, but not memorable… moules were flavorable .but a bit too small… the trout grenobolese was full of flavor, but might have been a bit too heavy handed with the bacon. texture of fish was perfect however… the crusty deck leg was as good as duck can get. For dessert I enjoyed a 5 star Crème Brulee… This Bistro may not be upto the quality of Buffet la Gare which it replaced… but I will return since this spot may still be a work in progress. . .

We had a great experience here. The servers are professional and the food is exceptional. To start– St. George’s wine selection has great depth and the raw bar was a great way to start the night. The onion soup and the chicken fricassee were by far the best I have ever had. In short, I now frequent the restaurant as often as possible to taste the new specials and the delicious meals regularly listed on the menu.

Wow wow wow I just had the BEST meal. I am so sad because it’s over. I will be back. First things first I LOVEBEINGGREETEDWITH A SMILE! We were starving, sister texted me last week and said I found ur favorite restaurant. Friday comes and the hubby and I decide to try somewhere new. I’ve never been to the restaurant before this but I don’t miss it. We had the charcuterie plate(dat mousse damn) oysters duck and lamb wine and a great IPA and last the profiteroles Duck: the crust… that crust Lamb: why did they give us a knife it melted with the touch of the fork. Today was our waitress’s first day and she ROCKED! I love you Saint George and I’m glad this is the beginning of a beautiful thing.
