We hadn’t stopped by Maud’s in over a year, but we’d been out all day and wanted something satisfying not too far from home so we went for dinner on a recent weeknight. One good thing about Hastings on Hudson after rush hour is there is free street parking, so we were pleased to park right out front(there’s also a small municipal lot next door to Maud’s and a larger commuter lot just down the hill). Service was fast and responsive, main plates from the Tavern Special’s were both plentiful and priced right and the beer was cold. The place can get noisy, but it was a quiet weeknight so we relaxed and talked among ourselves. It isn’t health food, but Maud’s preserves a welcome non-chain yet unpretentious quality so even though Maud herself wasn’t there greeting guests this time we felt welcome and look forward to returning.

Quaint local spot with view of river. Offers tempting array of lunch specials alongside their standard menu. From their specials today, I chose linguini with mussels and it was full of flavor. The serving is generous and I wish I had the appetite to finish it, but was full after eating almost half of the meal. My friend ordered the omlette with side salad and ate every morsel. We sat by the window and it gave us a charming view.

Nice and friendly, very accommodating staff. Food is above average, nothing fancy, just normal food done well. Servings are large. A great compromise restaurant if you have disparate tastes in your party.

Bun was cold from the fridge plopped on top of under-cooked hamburger. Salad side is still poor quality greens. House wine has gone downhill. What a disappointment.

Huge disappointment! The food and service was HORRIBLE! It being Summer, we sat outside and ate, with one other table that was being serviced. It took about 15mins to get one glass of wine, and nearly 40mins for our app to arrive. Our app was cold, and slopped together. My Friend and I had two different menus, and the table behind us had a third menu! The table behind us walked out before even finishing their wine(see picture) and we were soon to follow. Both of us walked a block up the road and ate a delicious meal! Many great places to go in the area, don’t bother stopping here. Also, NOHAPPYHOUR :(

The beer is great and the Shepard’s Pie is consistently excellent. The owner is friendly and inviting.

This popped up on Unilocal after I dismissed a few other places after seeing where they were at, decided to hit up a local joint, glad I did. Sat at the bar on a Wed night, ordered the sirloin atop caesars salad, steak was cooked perfectly, salad was so-so. Enjoyed myself at the bar, this is a neighborhood joint with a feel good vibe. Everybody was great, and the grub is slightly above bar food quality. You go Maud.

Unusually bad experience on Mother’s day. They seemed extremely frazzled– when we arrived there were only a few tables already seated, yet they didn’t have enough menus for everyone. Service was slow and the food was not up to par. Ceasar salad had virtually no dressing and the shrimp entrée had barely any food on the plate. Overall a disappointing visit after years of coming here, we may not return.

I’ll make this quick… Cute place, merely 3 minutes jump from the train station, cozy yet ample enough space inside– the ideal stop and grab a drink or two before the train type deal. Came in on a Sunday and it was poppin but managed to get a 2-top table. Staff is quick and mighty attentive to take our food order(we kept asking for more time bc we were gabbing to each other) but the beers took a good 10 mins to get to us. Had the portobello mushroom-red pepper-goat cheese app and mozz sticks. Average bar food, but still good pairing with the brews. Ordered a vodka shot and damn was it HUGE! More like 2.5 shots and we were very happy at that! Only 2 issues 1) they took forever to bring us the check even tho we said we have to make the train. We had a good 20 mins to spare but it was coming down to the wire when we had to ask 3 times and then got up, went to the bar to see the staff chatting and our bill chilling there, ready for us… OKPPLLETSGOOOOO 2) the front corner of the place kinda smelt like cat pee mixed with gym socks. Maybe it was an old, worn carpet… Maybe it was the very talkative woman sitting at the table next to us. Idk, but we both commented on it immediately yet still ordered food. Oh well. Whatever.

Went to Mauds last weekend. Sat down batman was washing glasses while I was waiting for a drink. When I ordered my drink, my Captain and Coke tasted like soda only. I was waiting for an outdoor table and the waitress was very annoying. I was sitting at the bar for no more than 3 minutes, my table was ready, so the waitress said your table is ready, would you like to leave the batman a tip in front of everyone. I only took one sip of my drink. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life, was very unprofessional. Will never come back here again.

We were traveling through Hastings and decided to stop here for lunch as it is a nice spot near the river. The inside is cozy and low-key. Our service was friendly and prompt, however the food was nothing to write home about. I had a Squash Ravioli dish, that I was struggling to find any flavor in. However, my husband had a colossal Philly Cheesesteak which he really enjoyed, and filled him up for the entire day.(massive portions here). I snagged a few french fries from my hubby’s plate and they were quite good as well. So yes if you are in the neighborhood this will be a decent to good meal, but it is nothing I would travel out of the way for.

So… I’m a geek and I love the leftovers hbo show and when I saw maud’s tavern in the leftovers and knew if was filmed near the river I wanted to go. So the reviews here were good — let’s go eat! So first — it’s cozy but not in the most charming way. The tables and chairs remind me of a country diner. I got the Shepard pie. It was ok. I’ve has better. The wait staff got into a argument at the bar. It was weird but happened and wasn’t professional. This is a local joint. Nothing worth traveling to.

This was my fourth visit in a 14 month period to Maud’s and I am sorry to say that I was disappointed. Let me start with the positive; Maud’s Tavern is a pleasant place, plenty of parking either on the street or in the lot. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed and the prices are reasonable. With that said, the food has been disappointing. I had a bacon cheese burger medium well, the roll tasted stale, the burger was over-cooked and dry. My friend’s meal was similar. While a friendly and pleasant atmosphere is important it cannot be more important than the food. I like the owner, she’s always very pleasant, but I fear that if the food doesn’t start to get better, Maud’s is going to continue to lose customers.

I discovered Maud’s years ago and I’ve been coming from the Bronx ever since. This warm and inviting tavern has a way of making you feel like you’re a regular even if it’s your first time there. Maud herself, is a gracious host and her staff follows suit with attentive service and smiling faces. Maud’s kitchen is very good at not limiting itself to just traditional tavern fare, they go above and beyond to give you delicious options you could not get in other taverns(ex: Chicken Satay with spicy peanut sauce). I’ve never had a bad dish at Maud’s. The burgers are amazing and the fries are the best I’ve had anywhere. The specials are always interesting and delicious and the desserts are a can’t miss. If you go in the fall, try the pumpkin cheesecake. Overall, if you haven’t been to Maud’s, go now. It’s worth a drive to picturesque Southside Avenue for this charming eatery and bar.

The pictures are from our second time eating here. It was the day of my father-in-law’s surprise birthday party. Everyone was impressed with the space and the menu that my mother-in-law had assembled. The potato leek soup was one of the creamier versions I’ve ever had, which I loved! The main courses were large and filling, though I must admit… my hubby and I prefer the red sauce I make at home. Otherwise a nice space with friendly staff.

Eating at Maud’s was sort of like visiting the Twilight Zone of restaurants — everything looked the part but was an extremely odd and vaguely unpleasant experience. We emerged from the train hungry and thirsty, and Maud’s looked like just the place, with its handsome wood sign and a menu full of hearty pub fare. But then we got inside. Things started off OK but rapidly went downhill from there. While we were greeted with a hearty«Happy Saturday!» within a few minutes and asked what we’d like to drink, we never got menus(had to go up and get our own). After ten minutes of waiting to order — our menus closed, our faces expectant — the bartender come over and ask another patron three seats from us asking how he was doing but doesn’t come over to us. After another five minutes, she comes over, says«hey guys» with her pad out expectantly, like she’d been waiting for us — nevermind that she’d never given us menus in the first place. Sometimes bad/odd service can be forgiven if the food is good — but the BBQ beef sandwich($ 10) looked like dog food swimming in «barbecue» sauce, slapped on a potato bun — and tasted not much better, the square bits of beef oddly dry and tough. Fries that would’ve been disappointing anywhere elsewhere heavenly in comparison. Shepherd’s pie($ 12.50), was large and comparatively non-offensive, but really not worth the money since it was essentially bland potato and meat mush, without any seasoning or vegetables. Also, no Chef sauce provided. Overall, the experience was just bizarre — enough to leave a bad taste in your mouth(literally, given the dog food sandwich).
