BOGO alcohol on Cinco de Mayo and every Thursday after 5 for that matter. Fresh food and baked goods made from scratch. What’s not to like? This is not a chain, not lazy owners that have mastered a microwave. Everything is cooked or baked fresh on premises. Fresh takes a little longer but your taste buds and GI track will thank you for taking the time.

The Friday Night Dinner Club decided to do dinner at Oscar’s Pizza last week, but my lady and I arrived a bit early to wander some shops which, we found, primarily close at 5 p.m. We did find a neat place called Miss T’s Tea Sets and it’s co-owner John Langan. They have a small wine and beer bar, so we decided to have a libation while waited for our partners to arrive. John is from Manchester, England, and offered a properly poured Boddington for me, and a good German Riesling for my wife. As we chatted we asked about Mike and Abby’s Café around the corner. John said it was good food but not at all like Joanie’s Gourmet. Based on the good comments, when our friends arrived we decided to try Mike and Abby’s(M&A). The weather was great, so we chose a table outside. Miguel was our server — he’s Mike’s father-in-law — and he provided very good service. The atmosphere, despite being right on the street, was mostly quiet and pleasant — Havana has very little traffic. Our friends both ordered the lasagna, my wife the chicken pot pie, and I opted for meat loaf. The lasagna was preceded by a small salad, and as far as small salads go for our area, this was a good one with a decent mix of veg. After the salad, a substantial portion of lasagna was served. The meat sauce features both pork and beef, and every morsel of both dishes was cleaned up. Highly rated, this one. My meat loaf was also quite a good portion, drizzled with ketchup and sided by rustic mashed potatoes and broccoli. I give this dish excellent marks for flavor, texture, and presentation. My wife’s chicken pot pie, though excellent in flavor was more biscuit than filling, a small portion of chicken and veg served over and topped with biscuit. That may have been okay had the dish come with salad or sides, but pot pie was it. I struggled a bit with the rating, but settled on 4 stars(instead of five) simply because the pot pie dish was light on portion. If you like diner style food preps, and good flavor from obviously competent cooks, friendly staff and service, then definitely give M&A a try. We’ll be going back, for sure.

My husband and I had the pleasure to try out one of Havana’s finest! The patty melt sandwich is a definite must try! The best we have ever had! The service was excellent. Not Everyday do you see a restaurant were ALL employees are friendly and greeting with pleasure. Thanks for making Havana our best place to shop just down the road a bit!

Great place and great people. Cuban sandwich was awesome. The fries were also great. Definitely order a Coke here. It is brought in special and has no corn syrup.

Very simple menu and everything is made to order. They make all of their breads in house. We frequent there for breakfast on the weekends for their omelettes and cheese grits and they are delicious! Staff is always personable and it has a very down home feel.

Once you have ordered and served the service is over :(No one came back to see if we needed coffee refills or anything else, I ordered eggs over medium and they were fried hard :( Best sausage gravy around and the servings were ample, all and all good food just need to brush up on service :)

How could something as simple as a grilled bacon, cheese and tomato sandwich be so perfectly good you want to shout from the mountains? Well, it can only be that way from Mike and Abbey’s! They are the new kid on the block in Havana. With a pleasant interior, Dijon mustard walls, black ceiling and dark mahogany floor tiles that mimic rough cut lumber, the décor is a delight. Slick and modern with a terrific front porch that offers shade and ceiling fans in the afternoon swelter. The menu is well thought out, country breakfast selections all day, a burger, some salads, chicken and perfect grilled cheeses and the best bread around. Thankfully, they sell it by the loaf. A stand up cooler added some bottled beer to the tea, lemonade and coffee selections. I settled on a teeth cracking cold Shock Top! The special tomorrow is a roast beef served au jus. I know where lunch is, friends, I know where lunch is.

We ate there again during the Havana Springtime festival, and their Cuban sandwiches, quesadillas, and cheeseburgers are also great! Black beans and rice are so-so. Very bland. Went to brunch there this morning and had an awful experience. I had to change my original order because they only had one biscuit left(I was fine with that). However, when my food arrived, it was awful. The gravy had CLEARLY separated and the biscuit was really old and had clearly been reheated in the microwave because it was rock hard on the bottom. My scrambled eggs were raw in the middle. Home fries had been fried in old oil. Overall, an unpleasant meal in an otherwise pleasant environment. Hopefully this was an one-time thing :(
