Kubo, Takaki & Ishikawa, OD

I’ve been coming to Kubo, Takaki & Ishikawa, OD ever since I began seeing an optometrist over 15 years ago. I’ve seen all of the doctors and all of them are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. My personal favorite is Dr. Takaki, as he’s super friendly and casual, but all are great really.
They are SUPER busy though, so don’t expect to get a last minute appointment unless you’re having an emergency like I had once. Appointments need to be made, especially for weekends, at least 3 weeks out. I’ve been told, however, that they will be adding a 2^nd exam room to help alleviate the crowds.

After experiencing a less-​than-​nice receptionist just trying to schedule an appointment at the Iwilei Costco, my wife and I thought we would try the Hawaii Kai Costco. Easy? Yes! Polite? Yes! Forgiving? (We missed our first appointment when working late at the hospital.) Yes! …and then kindly helped us find another appointment date without pressure.
The check-​in experience was straightforward and easy; three chairs outside the small office and lots of Costco products distract you while you wait… briefly. Then the pre-​exam experience of measuring your blood pressure, puffing air in your eyes, assessing color blindness, and measuring peripheral vision takes place before you get to see an optometrist.
Dr. Christine Ishikawa was our doctor this day and she’s great! Local, friendly, and happy to help — she made the experience easy and comfortable. She also recommended contact lens which neither she nor Costco sold instead of the in-​stock options, which suggested a focus more on getting the right solution, rather than making a dollar.
Walk-​ins are welcome in between the appointments they have, and they are open whenever Costco is open.
Overall, I would recommend Dr. Ishikawa and the team here to family and friends!

Have been seeing Dr. Kubo ever since I was in high school, then moved off island for 7 years and just didn’t receive the best care from other optometrists on the mainland. Moved back to Hawaii recently and saw Dr. Kubo and remembered how great he is! He explains everything during the exam and made sure my new trial contacts were the right vision and that I could see perfectly.

Dr Kubo is a good doctor he is very thorough especially when 3 other doctors couldn’t get my contact RX correct he did !! Love love!

The phone always seems to be busy. I wonder if these folks want my business!

Having worked for ophth. on the Mainland, I am very picky. I expect, knowledge, professionalism, and good service. You can be sure of getting that here! Dr. Kubo never acts rushed, is very through, and is very good at explaining things. I have been coming here for years!

Located inside Costco, you don’t need to have a membership to be seen here. They’re independent from the store and I’m glad they accept the major credit cards.
$ 75 buck for the procedural eye exam to be fitted for glasses is not quite the cheapest, but the doctor is nice here. I had the pleasure to meet Dr. Randall Tataki and from the plaques on his exam room, he has plenty of experience.
The doc was patient, took his time, answered all my questions and I felt he was thorough with his examinations.
He suggested contact lenses and my idea of a trial was free, but I ended getting charged for it. It was a misunderstanding and the doc was nice enough to reverse the charges.
I was asked by his assistant to remove the lenses and trash them before I left the office. Not wearing contact lenses for years, I’m still wary due to the health problems I have with my eyes.
I think his assistants were just a-​okay in terms of service, but the doctors did come recommended and I left satisfied.
