Hawthorn Gardens

They are the one of most nicest people in town, excellent customer service & amazing nursery with some great discounts on house plants.
Thanks for organizing the egg hunt on Easter for kids.

Love this place for many reasons which I list a few below:
Staff: They are super friendly and always willing to provide advice and even look things up to help with unique situations.
Yard Art: They have a nice selection of yard art and it seems to rotate on a regular basis. A very nice selection of rain gauges, outdoor clocks and temperature gauges. Also if you’re interested in starting up a Fairy Garden, then this is a good place to come to and help you get started.
Bird Accessories: A huge selection of bird houses, baths, and feeders with the various accessories for each of these.
Flowers & Shrubs: A nice selection of «healthily» flowers and shrubs… they are clearly well maintained and kept in good shape for planting in your yard. Chances are good if you come here, you’ll find items you would not see at the big box places which in comparison have a limited selection.
Firewood: They sell firewood here and at reasonable prices. They have a variety of wood to meet your needs… ranging from cheap, fire-​pit wood to good hard wood for the fireplace.
Workshops: They do offer on a regular basis various workshops. If you watch their on-​line web page you’ll be sure to find something that will interest you.
Overall, this is a great garden store… be for the well seasoned gardner to the folks who are just sprouting or the ones who don’t have such a green thumb.

So much cool stuff, huge variety and a great place to get ideas on how to organize and design your outdoor space (or indoor).
So how much do I love it?
Enough to drive 50 miles out, get totally lost and still be über happy :)
My sister took me to this garden center as I was looking for extra large planters to plant my trees. Their neighboring center down the road was outrageously expensive: try average of about $ 1,000? Me think not. But here I found exactly what I wanted and within reason. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a truck so I had to come back another time. The following weekend I managed to get a truck and drive out 50 miles back to Hawthorn, but sis was no way to get a hold of. I had no idea how to get back to this store as the city planners up North must have thought it was funny with all the damn windey roads. After hitting several wrong turns, I found this gem of a store again!
The staff was more than helpful getting the planters in the truck.
Definitely coming back!!!

My wife and I are ardent and consistent fans of Hawthorn Garden Center. We have a large ornamental garden both sun and shade as well as a separate vegetable and fruit garden. We can never for the opening weekend as its the sign that our gardening season is starting. It can be plants for our pond, bulbs and annuals or A excellent selection of perennials we are never disappointed with the selection or the knowledge of the staff.

Friendly, helpful staff. Great selection of plant materials and gift items. I just shopped there for winter pot items. The greens are fresh and they have a big selection of filler materials.

Fantastic garden center. They hold a number of free seminars for everything from bird feeding to container gardening to garden photography throughout the year. They have a fairly extensive bird feeding offering and they have an excellent selection of pond items including fish and plants.
They organize a trip to the Navy Pier Flower show with several busses each year. They offer invaluable advice on a wide range of gardening issues. They even hold a photo with Santa event with a free photo of pets and/​or kids and a pumpkin carving event for the kids.
Their prices are fully competitve with other garden centers and their Owner Loyalty program provides a variety of cost saving opportunities. They also provide weekly email specials.
Give them a try — you won’t be disappointed.
