Hawthorne Nursery

This place is a solid business to get your plants and nursery needs from. I was in need of an aloe vera plant because I was in a motorcycle accident and I have some pretty wicked scrapes and bruises. I called around 7:30 AM to see if they carried aloe vera plants and how much they were. I also wanted to see what time they open and since I planned on stopping by before I went to work. A nice gentleman answered the phone and tell me a small plant would be $ 4.99 and 100 gallon liter (I think) would be closer to $ 100 or so.
Whatever the price I only needed a small plant because that’s what my friends recommended. Lastly, I asked what time they open and he told me 8 AM. I asked him I was going to stop by on my way into work and I didn’t stay too far from them, so what I be able to get service before they officially open. His response was sure if the gate is open we left to help you– fantastic!
When I arrived there were workers watering all the plants and it felt like I was in a movie scene with gardens (I don’t know why).
There was a gentleman inside the office area that I asked for assistance with purchasing an alloy vera plant. He walked me over to where the plants were and showed me the different options. I showed him the scrapes and bruises I had and why I wanted the plant. I also asked them how to properly cut and maintain the plant and he broke off one leave of that plant and showed me how to apply it’s secretion as ointment. I paid for the plant which came up to $ 5.43 and was on my way. This was an extremely successful experience and I will gladly come back here to purchase more plants when/​if I need to.

Wonderful selection, good prices, AND knowledgeable helpful staff! I talked with the owner and it’s been in his family for 88 years! That right there tells you they’re doing something right :-).

This is the best nursery in the West LA area! The staff is super-​friendly and super-​knowledgeable and they have a wide selection of flowers, succulents and low-​water plants, and fruit trees and other shrubs. The prices are basically on par with other places.
The staff is definitely what makes this place stand out from — and rise above — the competition.

I love this place. The people working there are very friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is great and they deliver which is a major plus for someone who doesn’t own a truck. I will definitely be back!

I just bought a new house and need plants to make the outside look pretty, because right now it’s mostly weeds and ants. This place is near my home and I like to patron local businesses, so I thought I would check them out. All the plants and trees here are lovely and well taken care of. It is cheaper than Armstrong’s and the staff is knowledgeable. I plan to visit again and again.

I stopped by this place while on vacation, so I was not familiar with the plant varieties they had available. I was impressed! They had a great selection of outdoor and indoor plants, and the gentlemen working there was extremely helpful. There was an awesome little greenhouse area that had some really interesting plants, and the prices made my jaw drop (in a good way). So then why the four stars you ask? well I’m a little weird when it comes to labeling things, so I quickly noticed that some plants were well labeled and priced, but then others didn’t have anything on them. I was essentially being forced to have to bother this nice gentleman every time I wanted to know what this plant was, and that one, and how much and yadda yadda, you get the picture. Overall I ended up walking out of there with a bittersweet taste in my mouth, because although I had 6 awesome new plants for my garden, I couldn’t fit more into my car, which really bummed me out, and that’s not Hawthorne Nursery’s fault :) so I would never hesitate to recommend this nursery to anyone. Definitely something to look forward to next time I’m in the area.

Great place to find everything you need for your garden. Everyone there is very helpful and nice. Been there three times now, need to go back soon for some tomato plants. Thanks guys.

I love this nursery, used to live a couple of blocks away from them but now when I’m in the area I will stop by and look at their tropical plants, in the hot house. Their plants are always very healthy and the staff is very knowledgeable.

Great place to go if you having trouble with your garden. I recently took my mother here on a recommendation from a friend because her roses had some infestation of some sort. My mom brought in some leaves and they were able to give her an answer to the problem. Now her plants are nice and shiny and look amazing. The staff here definitely knows what they are talking about. I would never go to Lowes or Home depot to ask them. They wouldnt know anyway. So go here if you need help with your garden or just have a question. Super friendly.

I visited this nursery after having problem with one of our fruit trees. They immediately diagnosed the problem, sold me the solution (which is working wonders) and I also purchased a tree from them. Their inventory look beautiful… I wanted to buy EVERYTHING :) They were friendly and knowledgable. I would definitely shop there again.
