The Paul Mahder Gallery is a rarity– it’s the largest single floor gallery in California. One would expect such a record to be held in San Francisco, at a place like the DeYoung or in LA with LACMA or the Getty. But California’s largest single floor gallery is in the small town of Healdsburg. Its director, Paul Mahder, is an artist himself and there are his astounding black&white photos, such as the evocative one of an African man carrying a cross. One of the current exhibits are the 3D assemblages of Chris Blum. He has the shrine-like«Lady Gua Gua» with Our Lady of Guadalupe, a joke about Frank Gehry architecture with a puffer fish, and a depiction of the seven deadly sins. He uses miniatures powerfully. Oscar Camilo de Los Flores evokes Orozco in his surrealistic works. Lebanese artist Yasser Dib has spectacular mandalas using Christian, astrological, Buddhist and Muslim imagery fashioned with acrylic on Japanese rice paper. The Paul Mahder Gallery contains much on its single floor. An artistic destination in the Russian River Valley.
