The Wine Carriage

This was a nice experience; something different. Not the best wineries, but the tour at Alexander Valley with the barrels was nice. I would do it again if there was one at higher-​end wineries. They gave very good snacks on the ride, and were very nice. We met some nice people, and got to feed the horses.

We had an Amazing Experience. The rider/​tour guide had great knowledge of the area history and the whole grape growing/​wine production process. The horses were beautiful and very well trained. The guide was very hospitable and professional. The natural scenes were breath-​taking. I Highly Recommend It.

Bret is a knowledgeable, warm and charming guide. The wineries were down to earth but special. It was nice getting to stop at a few to compare — we ended up buying wine from several.
The carriage itself is kind of magic — beautiful horses pull you through the valley and the covered carriage is the perfect place to relax with friends. Before we went I was picturing something much smaller but this had room for about ten of us.
I loved it and want to do it again asap! Highly recommended.

I can say with confidence, you will not find a better way to see California wine country up close and personal than with this experience! Bret LeRolland is a master horseman and is friendly, knowledgeable, genuine and truly loves what he does. My wife and I have issues with gluten and I mentioned this upon my booking. To our delight Bret provided a GF alternative to the lunch provided and even added extra turkey to the plate since I also mentioned my wife does not eat beef. We really had a great time — in fact, the highlight of our trip. Due to the relationship Bret has forged with the wineries we visited, we had discounts on purchases and wine tasting was included at no charge. For our 30^th anniversary, this excursion was perfect. Thanks Bret for a great day! I recommend you consider this event if you are in California Wine Country.

Amazing Amazing Amazing! Perfect way to explore wine country! Beautiful horses, takes you to 3 wonderful wineries, get a great picnic lunch and the guide was such a cool genuinely nice guy. Perfect. I really hate touristy tours and this was def not touristy, only a few other people on our carriage and didnt feel rushed at wineries. I def recommend it, I would love to do it again!

I have been on this tour 2 times already and going again on the 4^th of July. The tour is excellent!!! The nostagia of it all is Wonderful!!! Bret is a great host! I heard that he has 2 new horses for this next venture and I am sure they are as pretty as the last 2. I cannot see being in a limo or a van to do something like this. Especially because a van or limo cant drive through the vineyards. I would definately (as I have already) suggested this to everyone!!!

So my beau and I went on the wine carriage today and it was absolutely amazing! We began with a cave tour and wine tasting at Alexander winery. At 12pm we heard galloping up the pavement and up came Bret and two handsome Belgian horses, by the name of Cheyenne and Cody. Bret was very personable, we enjoyed him a ton. We then cascaded away thru the vineyards to the next tasting, where we had a lovely picnic lunch. An assortment of cheese and meat, olives, strawberries, bread… oh it was amazing! Bret was knowledgeable and just a lovely man, we enjoyed our experience to the max… we tasted at a total of 3 vineyards. The wine carriage is a tour we highly recommend. Thanks Bret, Cheyenne and Cody for making our day a memorable one!

I was really excited to go on this horse drawn carriage with my wife. I also heard amazing things about this adventure. Alas, my wife hurt her back and we were not sure if we could go anymore. Brett was super helpful and understanding! He did not charge us for canceling. I know that this is not the norm, but I just wanted to comment that Brett will work with you, and he cares about his customers!

My boyfriend’s mom gave us a gift certificate for a wine tour with Brett, Duke, and Pepper, and we went on the tour just last weekend. We had a fabulous time and would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the wine country — there is no better way to get safely from one winery to the next while enjoying the fresh air and the romantic carriage.
Brett is a pleasant and fabulous guide. He’s very knowledgeable about viticulture, enology, and the area’s history. The wineries on the tour are excellent. We liked Hanna the best, which featured the most consistently fabulous wines, but also the most expensive — typically around $ 50/​bottle. We also enjoyed the wines at the other three wineries, which were more affordable (usually around $ 20/​each).
Lunch at White Oak was delicious. We bought a bottle of wine at the winery to drink with our lunch of gourmet, organic meats, cheeses, olives, fruit, and chocolate. I was quite full by the end of lunch — Brett is more than happy to give you seconds of any of the above! He also keeps plenty of drinking water in the carriage.
I would definitely do this tour again and would recommend it to anyone. Gift certificates for the tour make a great birthday or holiday gift.

My husband surprised my sister andI with a horse drawn wine country tour during one of our trips to Sonoma over a year ago! It was so wonderful. Brett, the owner of Flying Horse, was knowledgeable, friendly and down to earth. The scenery was beautiful, and learning about the wine making process was really interesting. Our favorite winery was Sausal Winery… mmmm! Halfway through the tour, we had our picnic. The food was simple, organinc, and delicious. The horses Pepper and Duke were so sweet that we decided to share our picnic food with them! This was expensive, but worth it :)

Best way to take your first tour of wine country.
My husband and I are new to the wine scene and recently took a trip to Sonoma for our anniversary, during which we got to experience Flying Horse Wine Tours. We were thrilled. We visited 4 wineries over the course of about 4.5 hours. At the second winery Brett served a delicious and surprisingly filing meal of bread, artisan cheeses, fresh olives, meats, strawberries and chocolate truffles.
The tour takes you through the middle of the vineyards, literally. We were able to taste a grape fresh from the vine and got a pretty informative and VERY relaxing tour.
The only drawback was the noisy carriage which made Brett almost impossible to hear during parts of the tour.
P. S. I do NOT recommend this trip for people with severe joint/​spine problems. Brett will try his hardest to make the ride comfortable, but the fact is: it’s a horse drawn carriage trotting along between vineyard rows.

Perfect! My girlfriend surprised me with a little wine tasting adventure a la Flying Horse Wine tours. The driver, Brett, was awesome. Extremely knowledgeable in everything from history of the land, to wines, to the local flora and fauna.
The horse drawn carriage is great. Duke and Pepper were very sweet. We even got to feed them strawberries during our little lunch break.
Brett set up a table (under a tree which was nice considering the 95 degree weather) with some tasty meats, cheeses, breads etc. to snack on midway through the tour that were VERY tasty AND filling.
The 4 wineries were very pretty and not crowded at all (this was a Saturday afternoon). Brett informed us that since Healdsburg isn’t Napa it’s a little less touristy.
Highly recommend this to anyone interested in wine tasting. It was my first time and I learned A LOT about wines, wineries, horses, the Alexander Valley, and most of all what wines I like and don’t like.

On our trip to Healdsburg, my cousin decided to book a carriage ride through the wineries in Alexander Valley.
Cheesy? At first, but on this lovely Friday afternoon, being on the back of a horse drawn carriage, galloping through the vines is quite relaxing.
Besides, if you plan to make several stops at the local wineries for wine tasting, what better way to do so but by horse drawn carriage?
Brent, our driver and guide, was extremely knowledgable, friendly and laid back. He provided us with a simple but delicious and filling lunch of cheese, bread, strawberries, home-​grown organic tomatos and chocolate. Doesn’t sound like much but it sure was lovely to sit in the shade of a tree and chat with the other riders on our carriage.
If you plan to head up to Sonoma County, a novel and pleasant way to explore Alexander Valley is through the the carriage ride wine tours. Nothing more leisurely than that!
