I am writing a review for the UNION location of The Children’s House. The Children’s House is all smoke & mirrors! Don’t be deceived. As a new mom, I was blown away by the building, classrooms and 50’s diner themed lunchroom! However, just because it is a newer facility with new things inside and lots of subject specific rooms does not mean it’s the best place for your child. They pride themselves in the fact that the lead teachers have college degrees, however most of the teachers are very young so while they may have a degree, some have very little daycare experience. On a side note, all the rooms have solid doors and no windows so you can’t ever see what is going on in the classrooms. Looking back, I personally do not feel that the director or assistant director have the necessary experience to be in their positions. Being a teacher at another daycare does not mean you have the expertise and know-how to run a daycare. I tried to meet with either/both of them on several occasions and they refused to meet with me and discuss issues that were relevant to my son being there. The option I was given was to email the director and she would then forward on my email to the owner, then would communicate what the owner said back to me. Who does this? If you ever want/need to speak with the owner, forget about it! She is some woman you will never meet, who will not email you, you can’t have her email address, she will not call you, etc. but dictates messages to the director to relay to you. It seems like she’s strictly an owner and there to collect her money, which is what it is. My son was labeled a «biter» at 9 ½ months old, before he even learned to crawl! I’m not sure what they teachers were doing when my child was biting all the other babies, if he couldn’t even crawl… but he was apparently a nuisance. Ask any pediatrician and they will tell you that sometimes children who are teething«bite» and that it is a very normal behavior in this age range. On a side note, my son was born with a Congenital Heart Defect and required open heart surgery at 6 months of age to repair the defects of his heart. Everyone involved was aware of our son’s medical history. We have never required or asked that he received special treatment because of this… However, when you feel like you’re being shown your way to the door, it’s hard not to feel like you are being discriminated against for having a child with a medical condition or deemed a liability to the owner of the daycare. We only stayed at The Children’s House for about 3(stressful) months. Since then, we’ve moved on to a different daycare we feel truly cares for and nurtures our child and have had a much happier, more pleasant experience.

My son has attended the Children’s House for about ten months, and I couldn’t be happier with our experience. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they fully engage the kids with a wide rotation of activities. My son loves his teachers and all of the friends that he has made here. When he first started coming here around age 2 ½, he was in pull-ups, but after about three months or so he was fully potty-trained. The staff was very instrumental in his success. The facilities are beyond comparison; honestly, there was no other pre-school in the area that could offer the same resources as the Children’s House. When I compared it to Little Red, the cost for 3 days a week was only $ 5 more, which I was very happy to pay. I can’t say enough positive things about the Children’s House.
