For a place that claims to have the best steak and seafood in Helen, I have two words: astoundingly mediocre. Everything was overpriced and the food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t something to remember. Our server Ashley was super nice and very attentive, I just wish that it wasn’t at this locale that we had the pleasure of being served by her. My advice is find somewhere else to spend your money.

Paul’s has a nice location on the river in downtown Alpine Helen. It has an adjoining bar and gives a nice first impression. The menu is all dollars and wants you to think it is an upscale steakhouse. Well, it really is not. The place was half empty on a Friday night. It’s expensive; expect your meal to be at least 20 dollars. There are no nice cloth napkins. Expect your drink in a plastic cup you would see at a Huddle House. The bread was not even fresh. I personally had the crab-stuffed flounder and it was only okay. The fries were piping hot and good. The baked potato came out in aluminum foil and was not dressed. Another diner had the prime rib special and it was severely undercooked. It was bleeding out and I believe he ordered a medium. Another ordered the baked salmon and she was very pleased. I tried a piece and it was pretty good. Jason was our server and he did a good job making sure our needs were met and made decent recommendations. I probably would not return. The place is highly overpriced for what you get.

I’m wondering how this place is in business. You would think after decades of Oktoberfest, they would get it together but it’s just pitiful. The bartenders are wonderful and the upstairs is fine but the service staff are the worst I’ve encountered in a long time, if ever. We asked multiple serving staff to please take our order and kept being told someone would help us soon but soon didn’t come until we were walking out. The server was rude and incompetent, I hope she treats future patrons better because we were ignored, spoken down to, and dismissed. I’ve been here multiple times and implore all to heed the warnings, it’s not worth a damn and there are plenty of great places in Helen.

So in the outside sign it says Alaska crab 28 bucks Thursday. So I go. Well it’s snow crabs. Any other restaurant would say snow crabs. They purposely miss lead you. On top of that they were cold and served with a table spoon of melted butter. I wish I would have read the reviews of this place before I waisted my money. Go to big daddy’s and get great food this place is not worth your time.

Well on my food tour of local spot in Georgia we stopped to eat at this location. I was blown away buy how good all the food was! Everything was very tasty and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the rainbow trout with loaded mash and it was great. My friends had the surf and turf and that lobster was amazing. We really enjoyed every moment we where in the establishment. The staff was really nice we were sat immediately and our drinks served in no time. Our waiter was very knowledgable of their plates and extremely nice. I don’t give out many 5 stars but this place more then deserved it.

We had steak. It was flavored well and cooked as we ordered. Price was as any other streak place, about $ 25 each.

Not really worth the money you pay for food that is just«decent» — it was loud, bad acoustics, the bar next door wafted in smoke so the whole place basically smelled like a biker bar. Loud music. The service was fine, don’t get me wrong, but the atmosphere just wasn’t our speed. My crab-stuffed trout was great, but overall we just weren’t very impressed — not our cup o’ tea.

I don’t mind paying a lot for good food. This was not it. $ 100. for dry, tough, tasteless steaks, dried out lobster and green beans that had been cooking all day. Don’t waste your money. They didn’t even care that I didn’t like it, which is a total deal breaker for me!

Great steak and lobster. Service was prompt and friendly. I wish they would still have the all you can eat crab legs but we still enjoyed the dinner.

they did away with the delicious cole slaw. WHY? Please bring it back. Never got my iced tea. they don’t have other lettuce besides spinach for salad and I don’t like spinach. All the side items are carbs except green beans, which came from a can and was not good. YUCK. Undercooked hush puppies. The nice waiter gave us some to take home with us. Service was adequate. Hostess nice. Only go when we have a coupon. Food is mediocre quality. Need to get in there and up the quality of the food. Where is the owner? I am local and never seen him… Needs to be IN the diningroom asking customers how they like the food. Ribs were not good quality either. Don’t like ribs baked in the oven…

The food here is definitely not worth what you pay. My girlfriend and I came here for the day and decided to eat her last night and are definitely not coming back here. We got a shrimp cocktail appitizer, She got a steak, and I got the crab stuffed flounder. The steak was alright, mashed potatoes where bland, green beans tasted fresh from the can, and the crab tasted terribly frozen. The atmosphere of the restaurant was definitely not up to par with prices either. I, and many other people who live/work around here, agree that the only reason they stay open is only because of tourism. Not coming back here at all. I here bad daddy’s is good though.

Good god, I understand Oktoberfest is a jumpin’ time for Helen, and apparently for this establishment in particular(only the bar area as the dining room was DEAD at 9:15), but what a waste of money and time. My cheese sticks tasted like they were bought at Wal-Mart(store brand, not the somewhat palatable TGIF variant), my wife’s prime rib was watered down and tough to the point of no return and even the beer we had was barely below room temp. It’s a good thing they charge TENDOLLARS per head to see the not half bad, but overweight and clearly past their prime cover band, because there is no way they could operate on honest revenue alone. Cliffs Notes: Overpriced drinks, trashy trailer park crowd in the bar area, crappy food, hateful/short/ill tempered management(seriously lady, 72+ is too old to be working in a restaurant you don’t own) We will never ever, ever, ever be back and I suggest you steer clear as well.

Well, let’s say this is a tourist trap, not for an enjoyable fine dining experience. Bad attitude by a mean old hostess, and mis– presentation the menu. First off, they take your driver’s license as a hostage to give you a buzzer to sit down at an available table. There are no «sorry» or politeness to it, this old hostess literally treats you like a criminal with a bossy attitude. Sitting down at the table, and ordered a bowl of clam chowder that costs $ 8. You would imagine it’s a good size bowl, but it actually came in a cup about 8 oz… Like a cup and half. So I told the waiter, «I ordered a bowl of soup, not a cup». Them he says this is a bowl of soup!!! They are either insulting insulting customer’s intelligence, or a total rip off. 2 side salads, 1 bowl of clam chowder about a cup and half, and something else costed $ 35. We left the restaurant still hungry and exhausted with no satisfactory feelings.

Seriously fuck this place. Atrocious food. Service. And there’s way better places to eat. Our steaks were rotten(meat tasted like shampoo). Drinks took forever. And over priced. You’re better off eating at Wendy’s.

Don’t expect much, locals said not to go and wish I read the reviews. Bad service and bad attitude, margarita was awful, place looked dirty, salad was old and wilted, bread was very good, steaks served fast and were average at best, would be good for a buffet but for a $ 76. meal it goes into the tourist trap. Would not recommend.

Just watched my 11 year old daughter devour 13 ounces! I think she LOVED it! My catfish was awesome! My husband enjoyed his popcorn shrimp! The service was great! Atmosphere was casual! Will be back! #100happydays

I had a bad experience here before but boyfriend talked me into giving them another chance because we wanted catfish. What a mistake! Mine was nit undercooked but raw as was the hush puppies. The meal was runny in the middle and the fish was dripping water from the middle. What did they say? Nothing. The waitress said I’m sorry your fish was raw. That was it. $ 47 for 2 «southern catfish“plates. We do donated that cash to the establishment. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Not sure what people expect for a German themed town and restaurant in terms of atmosphere but this is perfect for what I’d expect. Started with Lobster Bisque it was served hot and had good flavor. I would definitely get it again. Side Salad was a nice leafy mix w/their homemade ranch dressing ver good. I had the lobster tail dinner and my Hubbie had Ribeye. Both were good. Not the best but good none the less. I agree with previous reviews on fried shrimp but the fishy taste I think has to do with the coating. Overall good experience.

Décor is dated, but if you can get a table by the river window, it almost makes up for it. I had a side salad with vinegarette. The greens weren’t the freshest and they were just topped with two cherry tomatoes and some shredded carrots. The vinegarette was overpowering and bitter. My wife started with some coleslaw, and it had way too much mayo. Bread was OK. Service was fine. I ordered the crab stuffed flounder with rice pilaf. The flounder had Ok flavor and was cooked well, but very greasy. The crab stuffing was bland and mushy. My wife ordered the crab cakes and a loaded baked potato. Potato was fine, though they charged extra for the fixings(shredded cheese and bacon bits in a plastic ramekin). The crab cake was dry and bland. The price for this quality level of food is outrageous. This was easily the worst $ 50 meal of my life. The river view is Paul’s only redeeming quality — but there are other, better places on the river. Save yourself the money and disappointment and go somewhere else in Helen — anywhere else.
