We came to this restaurant on a whim since the one we were originally going to go to was closed. Man are we happy that other restaurant was closed because this place was pretty fabulous! We’ll definitely be going back!!!

It’s true there are a few times in life when dishes are expertly crafted, this unfortunately was not one of them. I’m currently visiting a family member in Vegas for a few days. My family member has been going to this place for over a year and has always had good reviews. We brought one bad roll back and the waitress was defensive from the get go. Saying she could not possibly make a decision to refund a terrible roll(which we did show her). Needless to say we will not be going to this sushi place anytime soon. It was a treat indeed, being that we were driving a ways to get here. Not worth it in any way shape or form. Chef’s name was Beto. In other words, save your money.

In the last couple of years, the service and food have changed so much I must update: It seems the AYCE crowd has taken over, and it shows. There are huge signs with«the rules» everywhere, and if you order a la carte like I did, you will sadly be disappointed. The quality and presentation are poor, especially when you pay $ 18 for one a la carte dish. They also do not allow children at the sushi bar anymore, even if they eat sushi. My sons have been going there for 12 years, and when we arrived on New Year’s Day for some sushi(there was NOONE else in the restaurant), we were told that kids were not allowed to sit at the sushi counter. So we left. My younger son and I went again, and were pointed to a table. That’s fine. For one kids’ bento box, one sake and two a la carte sushi dishes, the bill came to $ 60, plus tip. They charge you for every little thing, including extra radish(which they use as a garnish that gets thrown away most times). There are other choices for sushi in the area, with better value, quality and customer service. Go to those instead. This restaurant seems to have passed up its glory days, and that makes me sad.

This place is one of the best fhat I have been to. Come from LA. MANHATTANBEACHAREA. 20 years. This place works very good for me. I will make this the place to go to… the people are cool and do a very nice job.

I’ll stick to my other sushi favorites. Last night I thought I would give this place a try. Our waiter was very short with us and would come over and we would try to order and she would already be gone. It was late when we arrived and we definitely felt rushed. The sushi didn’t taste fresh to me and we had to ask for soy sauce and water refills multiple times. Also we asked what rolls we got she wouldn’t tell us. Kind of a strange dining experience.

Came here on a Monday night, around 8pm. Only about 6 other people in the restaurant so it was pretty slow. Not much of a greeting but that didn’t really matter to me. The first things I did notice were: tip jar said«mucho gracias», tables and chairs looked really cheap, and one of the TVs had a thick white line through it. The service was quick, which is what I expected with no one really in the restaurant. I got the Salmon(sake) sashimi amd it was decent but not great. It was a little tougher than some of the better ones I’ve had, but definitely not the worst I’ve had. I also got the Playboy roll. The sauce they used on it was too sweet for my taste, but when I scraped the sauce off everything was good. All in all, not planning on going back. I think there is better sushi off strip I’ll try.

Love this place! Great quality without paying crazy pricing. Our sushi chef was super fun too! Had lots of great recommendations. Actually discouraged us from ordering hazardous fish that was too high in Mercury. Delicious and educational! Haha!

So much for«giving this place a second chance.» Never going back ever again!!! 1 star for the sushi rolls and that’s it, everything else was bad and inconsistent. First impressions are ALWAYS a must, the décor and greetings not so much. We were there for dinner with our two young boys and were whisked away to a small table. No formal greeting to the venue or name introduction, then came ordering our food. Each and every time we had a question about the menu we were abruptly interrupted and couldn’t finish our question, we felt rushed. Again, 1 star for the sushi and apps. Now the big difference is when you close your bill. As I was paying our bill, wouldn’t you follow up with how was your dinner or did everything meet your expectations or something of that nature. This place!!! Nada. So as I handed my money to pay our bill they had to dig into the sushi chefs stash to give me change!!! WTF!!! Now for the deal breaker… as we were walking out there was no thank you for coming or we will see you again. For these experiences we will NEVER return and don’t go blaming the language barrier as they speak and understand English well. Due note for their incompetence I felt obliged to tip 10% on my bill, that’s what they deserve.

After years of going here(and trying many other sushi places), Sumo is still my favorite! The same people have been working here for years. The same hostess/server who seats us at the Sushi Bar. Beto, our sushi Chef. Since we go here on the regular, he knows us, our friends, and what we typically order. We don’t have to tell him what he want… he already knows every time… and sometimes he’ll throw in a few small extra things for us to try just for fun. We normally order the Tuna Karai, Something Wrong 69, and Apple Number One. The Tuna Kara is cut into cubes and stacked on a bed of white radishes. I’m not sure what type of seasoning they put on there, but it’s fantastic. The tuna and the radishes are a great combination. It’s a must try. The Something Wrong 69 is my favorite. In this location, they serve it in a big portion. I’m full just eating half of it. It comes with assorted fish(salmon, tuna, yellowtail) mixed with soft shell crab on the outside and shrimp tempura on the inside. The whole thing is drizzled in garlic ponzu sauce. My mouth is watering again just as I’m writing this paragraph. The Apple Number One is also good. It’s shrimp tempura roll with spicy mayo on top. Very tasty. Also, green tea is served in a pot. It’s also mixed with rice. Delicious. Service is fast and the people that work there are super nice. Please see Beto. He is the best! :)

My roommate has been raving about Sumo Sushi for months. We haven’t made it out because its kind of far from where we live, and there are places that we enjoy that are closer… but Friday night, we had a going away dinner for a friend, and she wanted to come to Sumo, so we finally got to try it. Let me say this, I would have LOVED to give Sumo 5 stars, truly. The food was phenomenal, which I’ll get to in a moment. The reason for the 4 stars is that the service did not match the quality of the food. Service was nice, and very polite, but oh my goodness was it slow. I had to order my bottle of hot sake($ 3 more expensive than the other places I go, which also figures in to the 4 stars instead of 5) twice before I actually got it. It took ages for the waitresses to come back over to take our 2nd and 3rd round orders. Once they were there, they were super nice, and the food came out quickly, but it was the in between times that were borderline ridiculous. Now, for the food. I don’t even know where to start, I was so impressed with the quality of the fish. We almost always order just nigiri and some appetizers… this time we did that, but also got 3 of their«specialty» dishes: The screaming O, the Tuna Karai, and the Cocaine. I don’t remember what all was in these dishes, but they were all served on daikon radish NOODLES(I seriously had no idea this was daikon, I though they were noodles. Delicious), with huge portions of tuna, and were all flavored very well. The garlic tuna is perhaps the best garlic tuna I have ever had in my life, and I’ve eaten a lot of it… It was smothered in delicious garlic, and while I can’t put my finger on exactly why it was so «omg amazing»…it just was. I’d come back for this alone. I tried amaebi for the first time here, as well. We were disappointed that they did not offer the heads, but my fella tried it first and insisted that it was some of the best he’s had. It was wonderful… almost a buttery texture, and so sweet! I loved it. The rest of the nigiri was just above standard for me: cajun albacore, super white, unagi, ebi… we were very pleased with our experience. They also offer a spicy ramen bowl. Caution: this is NOT a small bowl of ramen, so if you fill up easily, you might want to skip it. The gyoza was delicious, although they did not bring out the gyoza sauce. The spicy garlic edemame was great too. All in all, I was extremely pleased with my experience here, and would definitely come back…

One of the ol’ school sushi joints in Vegas, these guys are doing an OK job. I was told by one of the owners that they were the originators of what is known as «Las Vegas sushi» I can neither confirm nor deny this claim. Came here with a bunch of peoples who were on the lookout for some AYCE sushi. After we came in, we were shown to our seats in which they used banquet chairs. The tables are a little smallish for 4 peoples but we were able to squeeze in. I had to hold my breath. Now off to the AYCE. Everything was good, some standouts include the tuna karai, the coconut shrimp which tasted like TGIFridays version, and salmon kama. One thing though the service was inconsistent. Sometimes they were thoughtful, other times, I had to flag down a server several times to refill our water. Another note, the portion size was a little bit too big for AYCE. Normally, I complain when a business is too stingy. But for AYCE, I wish they were smaller so that I could of had a chance to try the nigiri, and other rolls. I would come back here as a fallback in case bluefin was too packed. But it is what it is, so next time take care of yourself. And each other.
