This place use too be good when the owner had amazing hair stylist. But since the owner started running his own business, I say this place is horrible. Today I went to cut my hair and I specifically told the guy that I’m very picky when it comes to my bangs, and he confidentially accepted my request. But he chopped my bangs 3 inch short way above eyebrows, when I showed him the picture before I showed how I want my bangs, he replied«yeah they are short, but they will grown back, and you can’t undo the haircut.» The bad part is I trusted this guys and thought to cut hair day before my vacation. Please don’t waste time with this person, he can’t cut hair plus he don’t even put any extra effort.

I’m writing this review with a heavy heart because not only did I lose a whole bunch of hair but also a trusted hairdresser. I first went to Lee Feb of 2013 and he gave me a very good haircut. It was everything I wanted and not only did he send me home with a nice haircut but threw in a hair oil freebie. I was super stoked to see Lee again, however i shortly moved back to NOVA and didnt have a chance to see him for a year. Fast forwarding to Dec 2013, I made an appt with Lee and drove 2 hours to see him. I had hair to about my rib area and was looking for a shorter cut but nothing above the armpit area. I guess I didnt convey that as well because I left with my hair barely hovering over my collarbone(even though I did show Lee a picture of what I wanted.) In two minutes I had almost 1 foot of hair cut off on the floor. I think the most devastating part for me was not the length of the hair but how the top and front part of my hair was cut(Extremely short, and very outdated). I went home and cried and got bad feedback on the hair from family members and my boyfriend. For the first two weeks, I had all my hair pinned back, now I mainly keep the top pinned back as best as possible. I did send Lee a message voicing my concern to him, however I got a reply back that basically said I was in hair loss shock and that he was envisioning something that didn’t turn out(and also something I never wanted) and that I should let it grow out(WHAT?!) It was not a satisfactory cut for $ 100.00 at all. I have thick curly hair and a short choppy cut that I got requires me to style it everyday with heat, damaging my hair further. I came in with enough length of hair to leave with something that I was going to be more than happy with– and to reiterate again– for $ 100.00… Needless to say, I still I’m very disappointed with the whole experience, and have been saddened by this change. I think if Lee listened to more of what I was looking for I would’ve been able to write a completely different review for IT salon. I think consistency and a hairdresser who listens more to their clients and not let their«artistic vision» get in the way is very important– sadly I didn’t get this from this salon.

Meghan cut my hair and she did a fabulous job — I love my haircut! She was also a lot of fun to talk to which is a huge plus. I found It! Salon through Groupon which gave me a great deal($ 55 cut for $ 25) so that was a bonus. Great style, the décor and lighting put me in a good mood, very relaxing. Lots of parking, overall an enjoyable and pain-free experience. Thanks guys!

This review is strictly for feather extensions I had at this salon and not for any other services. When I had called asking about feather extensions, I was told they are $ 25 for a bunch of 5($ 5 each) and no charge to bead it. I reached for my appointment but the reception was kind of cold. The lady who was going to do my feathers was out(even though I was on time for appointment) and came in 10min later. As for feathers, they were not what i was expecting. I had cute feathers when I was in SLC and was looking forward to similar ones. These ones were thin mono colored feathers and the collection was just black, blue, orange, pink, purple colors. I wanted to go bright as I have black hair and wanted a pop of color but the lady kept on telling me that natural will look good and pushed the blacks and purple colors. they blended in my hair so I went with pink and oranges. She beaded it quickly and when I went to pay for it, they charged me $ 40. They said it was $ 8 each and whoever told me $ 5 did not know the price. So I ended up paying $ 50 for mediocre feathers and not too friendly front person.

Love IT! I live on Church Hill and love that this salon is here. Lee & Ewa(the owners) have done a great job of creating a cool, eclectic space. Megan did my hair and I was thrilled. I have long ethnic hair — and she did an awesome job. I had a blow out and flat iron — it lasted even in Richmond’s humidity. I plan to return…

I love IT Salon! Today was my second time there, and once again, I am very pleased. The salon itself gives off a really cool, relaxed vibe. It’s a great atmosphere to be in. The employees offer you complimentary beverages, alcoholic or not, which is a lovely touch, and they have some pretty awesome massage chairs. Even more amazing is Drew! She is fantastic — great personality, super fun to talk to, and amazing at cutting hair and doing color! She asks a lot of questions to make sure everything is perfect, which I really appreciate since my wedding is coming up in a week! I will definitely continue to come back here! It is a bit pricey, but well worth the extra expense!

I found them when they were at the old location because it was within walking distance. Man, I am thankful I did. The spot is a little hard to find, but they gave excellent directions and told me exactly where to go. The salon looks great, the perfect balance of swanky with urban rustic charm. Drew is amazing, i’m one of those people who doesn’t have«cool» hair but somehow Drew tames it. They always offer wine or beer, and those massaging chairs take you to a whole different place when you’re getting shampooed.

I bought a groupon for this salon. It was a great deal — $ 25 for a shampoo, cut & style. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to use it. After the conversation I had, I contacted groupon and got my money back. I have knee length hair that I want to cut off. I’ve been growing it from shoulder length for about 8 years. Lately, it has literally been a pain in the neck and is really difficult to keep caring for. I decided to sell it and I found someone who is offering me a very nice chunk of money for it. I sent an email to It! because I wanted an appointment for Sat, Feb 4 at 4:15, and I knew they close at 5(it’s posted on thier website), but I couldn’t leave Charlottesville until 3:00(might take 1 hr 20 mins to get there), and the haircut would take 45 mins. In the email I explained how long my hair is, that I am selling it and it needs to be cut off in a braid. I said i would be driving from Cville and said I wanted a 4:15 appointment but I may be a few mins late… is this ok? I got a reply from Lee that read«for this… we all will stay late with no complaints» I thought WOW! This salon is going out of their way to accommodate me! I emailed him back to make sure I had the appointment. I waited a couple of days and didn’t get a response so I called. I believe Lee answered. I wanted to get an appt on Sat the 28th instead, since I could leave cville at 2. He said 9am was the only opening. I said that wouldnt work and he asked when i could come in and I said 3:30. He said that would put his stylist in a bind because they close at 4. THEYCLOSEAT5ONSATURDAYS! This did not sit well with me. I told him i am the one who sent an email about cutting off all the hair. He remembered. He asked if I could come in the day i called or the next. No, I work in cville and get out at 6. He asked which other day, and asked if i had an appt, but I wasn’t sure since I never heard back from him about the appointment. He looked and there was no appt(big surprise). I said Feb 4. He asked what time and I said 4:15. He made this«eeeehhhh» sound. Wouldn’t work. WHY!!! When I mas made to believe it would be ok in that email? He spoke to a stylist and they told me I could come in the 28th if my hair is already washed and FLATIRONED. Huh? What makes them think I own a flat iron for my KNEELENGTH, STRAIGHT hair? I can’t fathom how I would even try to use a flat iron on this hair… I can barely reach the tips… I’m sure there was a good reason why they would need me to flat iron it but I can’t wrap my head around it. I had to explain *again* that my hair needs to be in a braid to cut it…(so what purpose does flat ironing serve?). He then told me to come in as long as it’s already in the braid. I was planning on braiding it myself anyway. So, the appt was made for the 28th but I later cancelled it because I cannot trust this salon to cut my hair. In the end, he did do everything he could to accommodate me, but I can’t afford to risk someone making a mistake. It is not fair to the employees and the customer to say you all will stay late and not even ask them first! This was very unprofessional.

I’ve been going to Lee for years and love the new location! I only wish it had been there when I lived in Church Hill, there’s always been such a need for a stellar salon and IT! totally fits the bill. The salon manages to be totally chic and yet welcoming and comfortable at the same time. Super easy to find right behind CVS and loads of parking, which is awesome for anything in the city. You won’t find a better salon or better stylist and there’s tanning!

I love what DREW does to my hair! Its just like I want it every time. I’ve never had a hairdresser I return to; I always fuss about my new cut and have to return for«fixes.» I’m not an easy customer. But Drew has always taken her time, asked me questions to get it right. I have been going to her for over a year for cuts and color, and keeping up with my bangs. She’s a great stylist, very well priced, and I hope to find out that It! is every bit as cute inside as Wack! And, It! just moved to my neighborhood, and I’m so glad that Drew made the move with them.

I found Lee and Drew almost 2 years ago and wouldn’t consider going anywere else. They do the best haircuts, the best color and the best brazilian blowouts! They are so professional yet so much fun to be around. Don’t waste your time and money going to another salon because this salon is IT!
