Let’s be honest. We all reach a point where certain bras just don’t cut it anymore (ahem Victoria’s Secrets…). Sure, those lacy, no lining, demi cup bras are beautiful, but at a certain age and especially after kids, it just isn’t happening anymore.
I first went to Soma about 5 years ago after moving to the area and having my first child, needing to finally find a bra to manage the postpartum madness. The staff was extremely helpful in measuring me, and finding a bra that met my needs, which at the time was called the Nadia bra. Over the next year I ended up going back and buying 2 more.
After having my second child in 2014, my original Nadia’s had reached their limits and I went back this weekend to buy some replacements. I was helped mainly by Juliet, although everyone in the store was extremely helpful. The Nadia is no longer made, but I ended up purchasing two vanishing back bras which seems to be the same bra to me. We tried some others that I also loved but this one worked the best while still losing the baby weight.
I honestly think I will only buy Soma bras from now on. They are comparable in price to V.S., and lets be honest, you really don’t buy bras very often, so get good ones!

I am near the end of my pregnancy, and went in for the somewhat-​dreaded task of being fit for nursing bras. The bras seemed very nicely made and reasonably-​priced. However, the fitting was a terrible experience. The associate was very nice but seemed very nervous; she took one measurement (incorrectly) and left to get sizes. I’m aware the ribcage expands in pregnancy, but she brought huge band sizes paired with cup sizes smaller than my pre-​pregnancy bras. The result was that my breasts were squeezed out of every available outlet — in the middle, into my armpits, practically up my neck. After trying on 3, I tried to suggest a size, but instead she brought in another associate who opined that the current bra was «a lovely fit.» I indicated the abundance of visible axillary tissue and she stated «oh, that is just YOUR ARMPIT SKIN.» I think I started laughing, but really, now at the end of pregnancy, I am hormonal and moody and so tired of every random person I encounter commenting on my body shape that I was more inclined to crying. I corrected her by stating that the excess tissue was actually my breast tissue, which was met with thinned lips, a pained expression, and the statement «no, that is just the way you are made.» Really, I was unaware I was made to be unable to lower my arms completely. Odd that I never noted an abundance of «armpit skin» before in my life. Doubly odd that it went away as soon as I put on my own bra again. (Even aside from the poor fit, a cursory examination of any anatomy textbook will show you that, voila, the female breast extends into the armpit — that tissue, my dear associate, is in fact all of one piece).
One-​word synopsis: avoid.

I was looking for a new bra and I heard some good things about this place. I thought it would be way too expensive, but I had some free time so went it. There bra prices are no different than Victorias Secret, but I think the quality is way better. The best suprise about this place is they have clothes too!!! Really comfy sundresses and casual work dresses. Why did I give it 4 stars? The first time i went in, it was clear I had a new person. But I went with it :) After two days wearing the bra, it was cutting me on my side. I went back in and let them know and they told me i was sized wrong and they were very apologetic. They resized me and got me the right size in the bra I had and I never had another issue with the bra. Did I mention their jammies??? OMG!!! They are made of the sofest material ever!!! I got some as a gift from my fiancé last Christmas and never even knew they were from there! Most important point — you don’t have to be a size two to find REALLY pretty things that flatter your body type in here — from dresses to nighttime stuff. Good stuff if you might be going on a special trip like an anniversary weekend, honeymoon, or just want to feel pretty right at home! Really recommend taking a look if you never have,…they have another location on River Road as well.
