Dakota’s Steakhouse

I am a Hereford resident and have eaten here several times. This time was my last. We were here for lunch today and did not get our food until and 1 ½ hours later. When we received it, it was cold. I’m done.

I had great service. They make awesome margarita’s. I ordered 2 appetizers as my meal. The cheese sticks were OK. The recommended the firebirds. I enjoyed them more then the cheese sticks. No complaints!

If you go on your lunch HOUR… you’ll need to take a half day of vacation leave. Gone three times and never impressed. Much better food across the street at Ranch House.

Really wished this restaurant would get it’s issues worked out. Haven’t been in because of these same issues for a year now and still not any better! Service was slow even with the 4 servers helping. Steak was cooked too much (never an accurate cooked steak when ordered here) Our chicken tenders were undercooked had them take those back (when they finally brought those back everyone had already finished eating) I ordered catfish and well it was like one filet cut up into 4 nuggets for $ 15. Oh and we had to get our own menus! It wasn’t busy, only in the bar area– maybe 2 other tables occupied where we were. So that can’t be their excuse for poor service and poor food. Beer order was correct. I did thought have to tell them what was in a bloody Maria. Food quality for the amount of money spent on 4 plates. Really was hoping this place would get better. Oh and I love how the servers get front door parking. We parked near the highway!

I’ll first say there are not many choices to eat in Hereford unless you want fast food. The Service was slow, seated for 15 min before drink order was taken, they were not busy it was just disorganized. Later we realized our server was also helping train the bar tender. Total time in the restaurant for a meal was over 2 hours. Food was ok, one would think in the Cow capital of the World the steaks would be top notch, but they were marginal. When she ran our card the total was $ 1 less than the bill amount, so we left her a dollar in cash to make up the difference. When she came to the table we told her and she said that she doesn’t know how to fix it, so she’ll have to re-​run the card and cancel the other transaction, this lead to another 10 minute wait, we couldn’t wait to get out of there.

This place has come a long way. Wait staff and kitchen staff problems seem to have been resolved and you can now expect to receive wonderful service all around.
The food has also improved. Steaks are cooked perfectly and the appetizer menu is great (my fav is a tie between the green chili chips and the onion blossom)
The bleu cheese dressing is outstanding and I love the Firebirds! Yummy!

This place is awful. Waited over an hour and didn’t even get my full entrée. Ordered the shrimp plate and they brought 4 of the 8 shrimp and promised to bring the other 4 and never did. As a consolation they took $ 6 off a $ 20 plate. Really??? Not to mention the food that I actually got was cold. Seriously… don’t waste your money. Ps the waitstaff is great. Purely a management kitchen problem

Nice surroundings. Decent bar with big screens. Steaks are not reliable. Excellent chick fry, chicken dishes, chopped steak, good appetizers. Nicest restaurant in town. Bar is «private» club for $ 20 annual dues or a smaller limited time fee

Sadly no thrills. The food was sub-​par. Our waitress missed two items even though she read the order back to us. When she poured our drinks the cups either had too much ice or no ice. She dropped my mothers lemon wedge on the floor and said she would get another, but never did.
Good:
Sautéed mushrooms were tasty
Bacon wrapped, cream cheese and cinnamon stuffed jalapeños were decent and unique (but not spicy unfortunately)
Bad:
Salmon was old and way overcooked
Steak was lukewarm (the seasoning was nice)
Sweet potato was not sweet…
Asparagus was tough
On a positive note the manager apologized in person and explained they were understaffed. It’s possible that this was just an off night. She did give us 10% off as a courtesy. I might give them another shot someday and if they do better I will update this review.

New enthusiastic crew, but praying for a definitely positive experience in Hereford…
