Went here for breakfast… and had to return. Quiche is the best I have had in the last five years! The German hashbrowns were also fabulous. Coffee was superb. Slightly short handed on the wait staff, so if you drink coffee and chat, you might have to get up to get your own coffee.

Service was ok, the omelet was greasy, bisect and gravy were just edible. We have $ 14 in vouchers and aren’t likely to go back there, at least not for breakfast.

Just tried to get a table for Sunday breakfast. After being ignored for several minutes, we finally spoke up and instead of asking to take our name down, we were quite rudely advised that«it will be awhile.» No offer to take our name, no suggestion that we wait. It was like they did not want us to stay… and spend money! So we left. Going to patronize businesses with friendlier staff. Extremely disappointing, for a town that caters to so many tourists.

The service is a little shotty. I feel like they’re a little overwhelmed. It took a little time to get a seat. Our server was friendly and brought everything in a timely manner. My husband got the waffles-amazing! I had the quiche of the day and it was pretty good too. Try the ‘hash browns’ they’re pretty good! Kinda like German potato cakes. Our check out experience was kinda painful. They just seemed conduced. They do have a help wanted sing on the door so that could be the issue. I’d come back here for sure.

The food at this place was great, we went for breakfast 2 days in a row. The service is terrible though. So slow and out of it. One of the girls in our group described the servers as spacey. But the food really was good and worth the wait.

I don’t even want to give 1 star. Service was Very Slow! Had to wait 30 minutes for cold biscuits and gravy.

Coleslaw with cinnamon., nutmeg, white wine and mayo. Amazing! Fruit plate with poppyseed, cream cheese, citrus flavored vodka, orange juice. Homemade bread was tasty, but too crumbly and fell apart as you tried to eat it. Chicken was pretty bland and tasteless however. Waitress was a cook, probably doesnt waitress much. Didn’t know much about the menu oddly enough — she had to go ask about the ingredients in the coleslaw and fruit dip when we asked what the secret was. Downside: Took over 20 min to get sandwiches for 6 with no one else in the restaurant. Weird.

Jillsie’s is a cute little place; only go if you have plenty of time. 12 of us stopped in Saturday afternoon around 12:30 for lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant. After getting our waters, the waitress brought each table it’s own pitcher(sounds like they’re getting better about serving large parties). They serve breakfast all day, but most opted for lunch. They grind their own meat and make several different burger options-chipotle, jalapeño, garlic, etc. For a side you can get waffle chips, homeade coleslaw-it’s purple, and fresh fruit(no melon, it’s strawberries and pineapple) with a liquor fruit dip. I ordered the portobello mushroom salad. For $ 6, it was a steal and quite filling. I was kind of expecting iceberg lettuce based on the price and eastern MO location, but it was dark leafy greens and tender shrooms. The rest of the table was jealous of my salad. They have local Tin Mill beer on tap and a little coffee house between the restaurant portion and boutique. Interesting selection in their boutique. Tie dye skorts(yes, skorts are back in style in Hermann) next to bluebird tops priced in the $ 20-$ 28 range. These same shirts would be at least double in KC boutiques. Service is slow, but value is great!

Stopped in for breakfast this Sunday. There were 8 of us and we pretty much tried everything. Service was attentive and very friendly but a bit stretched. The prices here are very reasonable. I had the French toast casserole. It was really good, very rich and gooey, it could maybe use a kick of cinnamon or nutmeg to make it sparkle. They are offering a seasonal item, sweet potato hash browns. They’re really more like a latke(potato pancake) than regular hash browns, but they were so good. My husband had the brisket with chipotle as part of his meal, the meat was tender and the sauce smokey without being overly hot. He was not a big fan of the biscuits, they are a bit roll-like and were not warm when they arrived at the table. Someone ordered the spinach quiche and I tried a bite of that. There’s probably a pound of spinach in each slice. This stuff is Popeye’s dream! If you like spinach, and I do, you’ll really enjoy this. It’s fresh and flavorful and comes in the thinest curst I’ve ever seen. The gravy here is all sausage all the time. It’s very tasty but could use a bit more of the creamy part. I can see why some people might not like it. Really I’d like to do a 3.5 star on this one because I feel there are some small tweaks to be made. If I compare Jillsie’s to my favorite KC haunts, it’s a very 3 star place but when I compare it to the other offerings in Hermann, Jillsie’s easily earns 4 stars.

I can’t believe I have to give it a star at all. A large group of friends had breakfast at Jillsie’s Labor Day weekend. It took over 30 minutes to place our orders. During that time we debated going somewhere else(we should have) but since we were a large group that would have been a lot of trouble. Nearly an hour after first sitting down our food came out. Not all of our food mind you but about half of us got our orders. My husband’s biscuits & gravy were appalling. The gravy was refrigerator-cold and thin as water. Jillsie herself whisked the plate away and when it was returned it was clear it had been microwaved WITHTHEGRAPEGARNISHONTHEPLATE. That speaks to a level of disregard for quality that thankfully I rarely see. It was when I received my food that we noticed a fascinating fact. The eggs were microwaved too. They were the most rubber, disgusting things I’d ever seen. Service was so slow we made jokes about finding things like jelly and water refills ourselves. Even the soda tasted weird and flat. We ate our toast and paid(for some reason) and left. Upon leaving Jillsie apologized and said she really wasn’t equipped to serve large parties. I would have had a lot more respect for the place had she said that at the beginning. We would have ordered pastries & coffee and been saved the digestive upset that several of us experienced for the rest of the day.

My friend and I, seeking breakfast, walked to Jillsie’s from our hotel. Even at the early hour the temperature was in the 90s(it was August) and we were hot and sweating when we entered the restaurant. Even so, we weren’t brought water when we were seated and in fact we’d received our coffee before we were finally brought ice water after requesting it twice. To be fair, the restaurant was quite busy and there was only one server(Jillsie herself) and other than the delay in getting water she was actually pretty attentive given the number of tables that she had to serve. Jillsie was friendly and personable. When I explained to her that I was vegan and asked for food suggestions she was apologetic that she had no vegan menu items specifically but offered soy milk for my coffee and suggested hash browns and the fruit plate as a meal, which I ordered, and both of which were completely awful. The hash browns had obviously been cooked in(a LOT) of butter and were mushy on the inside and very greasy. They were more like potato pancakes. The fruit plate was a small pile of purple grapes, a handful of green grapes, and some pineapple. Served with the fruit plate was a small cup of some kind of orange cream. A man(the cook?) brought us our food and when I asked what the orange stuff was with the fruit he said«I don’t know. All that I can tell you is that it has liquor in it.» Jillsie later confirmed that it was cream cheese, despite me having told her prior to ordering it that I don’t eat dairy products. Of the maybe 20 grapes on the plate, about 1⁄3 of them were rotten and 3 of them had actual white mold on them. The pineapple tasted fresh and was good. Our coffee was served in paper cups despite the fact that we were dining in and was in contrast to the nice cloth napkins on the table. The restaurant itself looked charming and clean. But the simple menu is uninspired and the quality of the food was horrible. I won’t be eating here again.
