Love this place. The guys are friendly and the coffee is good! Breakfast burritos are the bomb. I feel like I’m sitting in my grandmas living room when I post up here to work. Even though there’s always people here, I’ve never struggled to find a place to sit and a plug-in so I can charge my laptop.

I live a few blocks away and walk here in the mornings. I really like this place because it feels like you’re in someone’s small living room, it has no chain vibes at all. The guys that work there are great, they’re funny, remember regulars and make great coffee. There’s seating outside and inside they feature art by local artists and switch it around often. The only food I’ve tried here are the breakfast burritos, small but good and satisfying. They have a nice pastry selection for those with a sweet tooth. Overall it’s a really nice small local coffee spot just a block away from the pier.

I am a customer and it is very nice but reasond a man sits and talks about different cultures and in a manner of resentment hate. I feel bugged. My wife got cut in the conversation from him but he doesn’t stop. This man telling me his name is Dana he has no hair and carry shorts . But not enough he is bugging me and my wife at the storage place.

It’s a coffee shop that serves decent coffee and provides a quiet space to study… except why would you study at the beach when you can just go to the beach and do beachy things. Just kidding, education is important; they have couches and tables and a whole lot of decorations that make the place quite homey and comfortable. They take the quiet space very seriously, so if you have phone calls to make, do take it outside(as indicated by the sign) and there is a restroom in the far back if you ask. Everyone who works here is very nice and offers great suggestions, so whatever you end up getting here, it’ll be great! Along with a wide variety of coffee selections, they also serve food to compliment your coffee; why not eat lunch while you study right? I apologize for not giving specific details on what I liked or what to get because… I actually panicked ordered here due to the wide selection of coffee and fact that I came here on a whim(so I wasn’t in a coffee mood, but that says a lot right?). But do know that you won’t be disappointed here.

Love this joint! We’ve enjoyed their service, coffee and ambience for over 15 years, since before mommy hood. Now my teen frequents and enjoys Java man as much as we do. Local family owned by a great family. It’s low key, casual and indie as my teen would call it. We prefer this over corporate coffee houses any day.

I love this place! The people working here are really nice, and they have a huge variety that caters to almost everybody! They have coconut, almond, and soy milk as options, as well as heavy cream for me! They also make both traditional and Mexican hot chocolate. Yum! In addition, they make various food options, such as burritos and sandwiches, and also a great variety of baked goods in the case. Including gluten free! Overall, an awesome place that we will visit every time we are in the area!

Made a quick stop for a latte and a chorizo burrito on my way to work. Wait time: max 5min. Price ~$ 8!(with tip) I was going to walk down to the Starbucks across from Citibank near the beach, but decided to give this local shop a try. I am a Starbucks fan, but this coffee shop is my new favorite. The place is small and the counter is directly right of the front door so you have to walk through the line to get inside but the quick service and friendly demeanor deters any negative comments I might have had if the line was slow and the staff were rude. They have a variety of fresh pastries to choose from in the display counters and are currently serving seasonal drinks, like an eggnog latte. A gentlemen in line ordered an eggnog latte right behind me and said that he really likes the latte, so I will be giving that a try next time.

Stopped by here for a coffee after having lunch in the area. Its an old beach house that has been converted into a little coffee shop/café. When you step inside, it has one of those counters that display their items in refrigerators and I practically had to stand on my tippy toes to place my order. With the fall season ending, I realized I hadn’t had a pumpkin spice latte and although they had the Holiday Lattes as the day’s specials, they still were able to make me a pumpkin spice latte. There was no line and server was friendly and drinks were placed in to go cups. Thus, I opted not to stick around. The Pumpkin Spice Latte? It was Ok, but at least it wasn’t bitter or too sweet.

I adore this local coffee shop. It is so much better supporting local mom & pop shops than huge corporations, like Starbucks, that push local shops out of business. Java Man gives back to the community. Starbucks, not so much. This place is great. I do have to admit. I’m not a coffee drinker. I do drink tea and Java Man has delicious iced teas. When friends and family coffee drinkers come to visit me, they’ll walk down to Java Man in the morning for their cup of joe. My sister loved it so much more than Starbucks, she bought some coffee grinds home with her. Java Man is owned by Ocean Diner, a mile up the road. The pastries are always really good. I’m a sucker for the cinnamon crunch coffee cake. Their pecan bars are also delicious. They often have a sample of one of the pastries out on the counter for you to try. Share the goodness. I always hit up Java Man for lunch to answer work emails, and catch up on life. I’ll order one of their panini’s or sandwiches. Tuna has been fresh, bread is fresh. One time the tuna wasn’t fresh and the guy behind the counter told me. I liked his honesty. The chicken pesto panini is really good too. Sandwiches come with a bag of Lay’s potato chips and an apple. Decent for $ 10. It is so rare you get a full school lunch for under $ 10 anywhere anymore, and a great tasting one nonetheless. Oh, yes, for breakfast, they have the infamous breakfast burrito. Those sell out fast, so you gotta get there fairly early to get your hands on one. One of the things I love about Java man is the energy. It is such a great place to get work done, to study, people watch, or to just read a book and chill out. It is located on Pier Ave, in the middle of all the local businesses, so there are a lot to look at. There is not a parking lot, however, there are a few 15 minute parking spots in front of the building, as the rest of the parking spots are all metered. It is Hermosa, so make sure the meter is paid for, or you will come out to a ticket under your windshield wiper. Java Man sits on the corner of Pier Ave & Manhattan Ave in an old, yet refinished beach cottage. There are chairs and umbrellas on the patio/sidewalk outside if you want to soak in the sun. I love that they didn’t knock any walls down in the cottage. There are plenty of seats and room for you to sit w/your computer. There are large tables, sofas, chairs and coffee tables inside all 3 main sitting areas. There are also quite a few electrical outlets to plug in/charge up. Free wi-fi when you make a purchase. I’ve sat there for an entire afternoon working on my computer. Most often, I am sitting among many local business men & women sitting on their computers, answering work emails, and students with their study groups. It’s pretty quiet too. The staff is generally nice and friendly. Same guys have been working there for years. Pretty honest too when it comes to the food. I also love that they cut out the daily horoscope each day and post it to the counter. It’s a little fun read while they are ringing you up. Keep up the great work Java Man. Hermosa Loves You!

I dig this place! I like the comfortable setting of this indie coffee house, it feels like someone opened their surf bungalow, which they did, the building was once a small house before it was converted. Inside they have different little sitting areas, which were obviously rooms. They’ve got sofas and tables and chairs which makes for a good setting while surfing the internet on the free wifi, or chatting up friends. Service is solid, coffee is tasty, and they have plenty of Danish type offerings. They also make a killer breakfast burrito, but they only make a set amount each day.

Java man coffee is my early morning spot when I need to hurry and. get to work. They are the only coffee spot in downtown Hermosa that I have found that opens before 7:00am. It’s better than Starbucks/dunkin but not quite as good as some other local shops. I can’t say much about the one muffin I had it was a blueberry with cream cheese. It was similar to the coffee, good, but nothing spectacular.

Java Man is a Hermosa Beach monument to everything, location, coffee food, service and LOVE of the community. They community LOVES you back. This is the very heart of LOCAL. You have allowed local musicians to start out there and grow. There are not enough words to say it enough but THANKYOU~

I absolutely love the breakfast burritos. This Coffeeshop is awesome. We come twice a year from Germany to LA — this one is a must-do! Soak up the sun while chilling on the small patio in front of the shop, have a burrito or one of the homemade muffins and life is perfect.

With all the chain coffee joints setting up dominion all over the city, it’s nice to see a few mom and pop shops around. Java Man is my spot for coffee in Hermosa. It sure beats all the other shops in the area in flavor of coffee and intimacy with service. I usually get my triple espresso con panna and it’s perfect every time. The ice coffee is standard, but it packs a bit of a punch, so be careful if you’re prone to jitters, you most likely will get it. They have basic food items, but I just stick to the coffee brews. I’m not a hot coffee drinker, so I can’t fairly rate them on that. The inside is pretty small, but it has some tables for customers to sitdown, enjoy their cup of coffee, read a book, surf the web, etc.

Got the iced coffee and a pear/cinnamon coffee cake. Both delicious and the slice of coffee cake was humongous. Price is average with a while lot of choices and the menu looked overwhelming. Also serves food –seems pretty popular. Customer service was good but not above and beyond. Great place to study and do some computer work but many hover over the powerstrip to keep their laptops and electronics charged. Park a block or two away in the residential area for 1 – 2 hours free :)

One of the best places to study. It is VERY quiet and they even have signs saying something along the lines of, «if you have a phone call take it outside.» Most people are in here getting work done so you feel the need to get your work done also. There are a lot of tables and a few couches. It is also great for people watching! :) I had the turkey sandwich and it exceeded my expectations on a normal sandwich. The bread was extra soft and their was more zest in the flavoring! Definitely come here if you need a quiet place to study, it is also about five minute walk from the beach. Free wifi and a lot of outlets!

Great space for studying! They have a bunch of random tables and chairs and couches inside the café and also seats outside the café as well. My friend and I studied here for over 4 hours today. They have great lattes, iced tea and breakfast burritos and really friendly service. Free wifi as well! They also have signs indoors asking people on cell phones to keep it down and have their conversations outside, so again, great for studying.

It’s true what they say about service«making or breaking» a business. I love Java Man not only because it’s a local business I want to support, but because the guys that work here are so great. They’re always happy and friendly even if it’s super early in the morning or when they’re right about to close up shop and someone stops in for that«right before close last minute coffee». Honestly, Java Man’s coffee isn’t my favorite but the guys that work here are great and their homemade pastries and desserts are pretty good. Their vanilla latte is worth coming back for, though.

Alright… so I only bought a drink from this place because I needed to use their bathroom, but I’m glad I did because I got to try Mexican hot chocolate, which was dope! It totally hit the spot and the chocolate was delicious. It was more rich than regular hot chocolate. I will order this from now on. I just got here from Hawaii, and while locals are walking around in slippers and shorts, I’m rocking socks, boots and a jacket, so a hot chocolate was right up my alley. The shop was closing soon, so there wasn’t much of a crowd in there, but they have lots of comfy seating. I could totally see myself coming in for hot chocolate and to shoot out some emails. I will come back here again, when I’m in the area.

Three stars because of it’s location, on Pier Ave, closest to the beach.(very convenient for if you just came off the Strand & want a quick java fix or jump on your laptop). It’s cute from the outside. Has that indie appeal. Wasn’t too impressed with the inside, other than it was a lot bigger than it looks from the outside.(It looks like a tiny hut). Service was meh. I say this because I was with my BFF(yeah we are in our 40’s & still hang out) and her boys — not little ones, more like mountain sized 20 something year olds that have baby faces & could be mistaken for HS age. Anyhow, the man taking our ordered appeared to be bothered with us, because her boys kept asking questions & so did we. I guess it was irritating to him to have to explain to visitors who don’t frequent. We got our drinks and honestly was not impressed. Read the reviews & also judged by the way it looked on the outside & even the way the glass counter display of baked goods & the menu, it seemed it would be a real treat. But it wasn’t. For the prices(expected since it is after Hermosa Beach & plop smack on Pier Ave) but it tasted good, not great. Baked goods were the same. I have had better in boring cities. I guess it’s all right for everyone else, because of it’s location and that they have WIFI. I think next time we’ll research more or just have our coffee before heading to the Stand, after all, there’s bathrooms throughout the beach.
