This was a nice gym. The students were all really nice. There is a fair mix of white blue and purple belts. The pricing was average to cheap depending upon the package.
There are also weights here. I didn’t ask about them, but if you are allowed to use them you may be able to have this place double as your weight gym.
At the end of the class I took there was probably roughly about a half hour where it was kinda just open mat. I found this time to be very useful to use as some much need practice time for technique.
This gym lays a little more on the non-​traditional side. Most people where gi’s but they are optional and some do not. Bowing is not required (or at least that is what I was told). And Bob incorporates some general self-​defense not exclusively related to Jiu-​Jitsu like protecting yourself from certain strikes.

Amazing place for Jiu Jitsu training. With a combination of BJJ and wrestling you learn techniques that are unique to Bob Bass’ styles of ground fighting. People have compared these two styles (bjj and wrestling) for years and Southbay Jiu Jitsu offers this deadly combination with world class instructors.
Everyone is very motivating and helpful and you will learn some down right «sick» jiu jitsu and MMA tactics. The instructors are very patient and break down techniques move by move. Definitely high level world class training, don’t miss out.

Started to look for some jiu jitsu schools after many fellow employees were doing the same. Considering my place of work, OTM Fight Shop, it would seem logical to have a little hands on experience with brazilian jiu jitsu. Met Rosaldo at OTM and we were talking about jiu jitsu which led to Rosaldo asking me where I train jiu jitsu. After telling me I didn’t have a permanent gym, he introduced himself as a South Bay Jitsu student. After a short conversation about the benefits and schedule of SBJJ, I was quick to react and decided to try it out.
Went over to the academy and the instructor Bob Bass was a very laid back coach. He is known in the BJJ world as the a black belt under the Machado brothers. After having one free session, the other students talked to me a bit, and were very outgoing and welcoming. Assuming that Rosaldo and Bob Bass were going to discuss the prices, they told me when the next class was and to hopefully see me there. The students and trainers at South Bay Jiu Jitsu were not only very kind, they were generous enough to generate a vibe which already felt that I was already a long time student and friend. Bottom line, give South Bay Jiu Jitsu a go and know what it feels like to have a awesome black belt teach you the ways of BJJ and offer a friendly atmosphere
