FYI, They moved a few miles SE down PCH. Same great food(and lots of it) at the same great prices. You can find them on Unilocal still in Torrance. Worth the extra few minute drive!

Why 5 stars? Homemade Portuguese sausage. That’s why. Order the 5a. Not the 5. The homemade sausage is like a spicy well done burger patty. It’s not a link. The spice is great. I start by flipping it over onto the eggs and it will reveal a little Portuguese puddle of spicy juice. Use your Hawaiian sweet bread to soak it up and you are on your way to Lani.(Heaven) I then chop up the patty and combine it with my scrambled eggs and hash. The thick sweet teriyaki sauce that accompanies my 5a is reserved for my sticky rice. I will spread out the obligatory rice scoop on my plate and pour the teryiaki evenly over the rice so I can get a good rice to yaki ratio. Everything gets washed down with copious amounts of coffee. 5a is 5 stars.

Went today for the first time and food was good. Best parts no waiting very inexspensive good size portions. I had the loco moco, my wife had the chicken bowl we both enjoyed our meals

Good little place for a simple teriyaki bowl. If you order either the chicken or beef bowl(or the combo), you have get the grilled onions with it, not the same without it. Decent portion for a decent price for a(relatively) semi-healthy lunch.

I hope this is the right place. I was beyond smashed coming here after boozing on St. Pattys. We all were. So as far as the food goes, I don’t remember much I think it was okay but wasn’t very hungry. As for the service, it was GREAT! The ladies here were kind and patient with us, I am sure we were more then obnoxious, drunk patrons for sure. Aloha ladies at The Beach Hut No 2!

Just finished a fabulous meal at The Beach Hut No. 2! The food was amazing! I come here all the time and the service is always exceptional. The servers always made sure we were happy and satisfied which is what good service is all about. So if you’re ever in Hermosa and want to grub on some good food you should definitely stop by The Beach Hut No. 2!

Had breakfast there today and things have really changed, sorry to say, not for the better. I am a long time resident of the south bay. We used to eat at the original in El Porto, a long ride but VERY worth it. We were so happy when #2 opened in Hermosa a number of years ago. This location was bigger and still had the same great taste as the original. Then things changed around 2002 or so, don’t remember exactly. The prices doubled and the serving sizes got smaller. We stopped eating there. Then last year I believe the established changed hands again. Things were better again. The food was good. The prices decent. Recently I had heard they were now open around midnight for the after bar crowd serving Carne Asada burritos and tacos and chicken bowls. Seemed a stretch to be serving Mexican food at a place known for it’s Hawaiian food. Whatever works I guess. Today I am not so happy. Ordered 2 of my long time favorite dishes and I did not recognize them. Gone was the ball of sticky white rice, replaced with a pile of what seemed to be just plain white rice(leftover from the midnight burrito makings I hope not). The terriyaki sauce had made a noticeable down hill run. Seemed they took what used to very thick, great tasting Teri sauce and watered it down. The sweet flavor was long gone. It now tastes like watered down soy sauce. NOBUENO! Give us back the terriyaki sauce that we all loved. Finally, the chicken in my shogun was burnt. Not crisp as used to be but black around the edges. Couple with the bland, tasteless white rice and watered down terriyaki sauce this was a meal to forget. I hope this is just a temporary hiccup as the food use to be quite enjoyable. Maybe a victim of the economy I don’t know, but I am certain I will stay away until things improve. Also notable is the fact that both locations used to be packed with a waiting line, something that was not a problem. I was in today at a time they would be normally packed and I would have to say more than 50% of the tables were empty, gone were the crowds. I will wait some time and give them another chance but until then this is a place to avoid.

I absolutely LOVE the Beach Hut! Been coming to this spot for over 10 years… they have the best breakfast(with a Hawaiian inspired menu) and it is so inexpensive. It’s less than $ 20 for 2. Can’t beat that! My favorites are the Royal Hawaiian and the Hawaiian… I also am a big Spam Special fan. Their lunch is great too. They are in a perfect location just a block from the beach and Hermosa pier, and I believe they are open til about 2 or 3p. I took one star off because their service could be a little bit better.

I hate hard white rice. they don’t cook their rice with enough water! either that or it’s old rice! this is a major pet peeve of mine. it’s just not right. had the Portuguese sausage + corned beef hash breakfast. Only gave 5 or so small pieces of Portuguese sausage & the hash had the texture & taste of mushed up potatoes mixed with a side of whatever the hell is the blandest thing you can think of. Even my 2 over easy eggs were burned a bit along the edges. The best part of this place was the King’s Hawaiian Bread. I like King’s Hawaiian bread, but this fact is not a good thing. And our table top was pretty sticky.

Good little corner Hawaiian Joint. For budget-eaters, try the surfer-scramble: eggs with potatoes and hash with rice and sweet bread. Great Deal. For Lunch, I like the B plate, but there is a ton of great options. The coffee sucks but there is a Starbucks across the street. I go there about once a month, love it.

Three and a half stars. I don’t eat Hawaiian food very often, so that’s not what brought me in for breakfast here today. I just wanted to check the place out because it’s somewhat of a Hermosa Beach landmark. The windows are covered with decals, including a Unilocal decal. This little restaurant is family-owned and operated, and has comfy booths and indoor beach-scene murals. It’s a laid-back atmosphere with a surf-inspired theme. It’s a breakfast/lunch spot only, closed at dinner time. I ordered pancakes, link sausage, and fried eggs. I asked that my eggs be cooked with runny yolks & whites cooked completely. And they were! Perfect! The pancakes were so-so, and served without any butter. So I asked for some and got margarine. Ix-nay to that, of course. I did get butter on my second try. The meal was OK, for just under 7 bucks before tip. I’ve had better, I’ve had worse. And yeah I might return sometime. I drank only a glass of water, and it woulda been nice if somebody had refilled it. I also had to wait for my check, long enough that I became worried about my ’12 minutes for each quarter’ parking meter. So I went to the register to pay my tab. But this is the beach, after all, and few people are in hurry here. It’s a whole different lifestyle, more laid-back. All things considered… Beach Hut is a cool little spot. I appreciate small cafes that are not chains, especially ones with history that have provided sweet memories for generations of families.

One of our staples for a Beach Cities Breakfast. The beauty of this Surfer breakfast joint is its simplicity — we sit down, grab a Beach Reporter and order: 5a for the wife, 12a and a cup of Joe for me. Done. One star off as their service has slowed the past few months…

Nothing beats runny egg yolks over rice. Nothing. The Beach Hut is my favorite place to indulge in this treat. Honestly, I’ve never had anything other than the #17(the Shogun), but I can tell you you really need to look no further on the menu. Eggs, rice, teriyaki chicken, sweet bread and a wonton. Yum!

Eh, I’ve had better Hawaiian at food courts in Seattle. Cons: The loco moco, one of my favorite dishes, was very disappointing. The hamburger patty was dry and unflavorful. The gravy was bland and tasted decidedly un-gravy-like. The macaroni salad was bland and too sweet. Ick. I had to add lots of soy sauce and cock sauce to make this taste half decent. The BF’s corned beef hash was overly potatoey and kind of gluey. Pros: The service was friendly and the prices more than reasonable. Verdict: We should’ve gone back to Scotty’s for breakfast instead. Next time!

We live locally and while I have passed by a million times, we never actually dined here. We are trying to save $$ and decided to use a coupon in the Entertainment book(which pays for itself the first time you use it) for lunch. Huge portions(neither of us could finish a plate) and nice selection. Super sticky rice and my fave — Hawaiian style macaroni salad, He had plate C which was a teriyaki steak + chicken plate(steak was a bit dry) which came with a meat eggroll(yum), a huge bowl of salad, rice and sweet bread. I had plate E which was a teriyaki burger cook perfectly rare w/a wonton, salad, rice and mac salad. Again, I couldn’t finish this if I tried. So for 2 items that were $ 7 and $ 7.50, 2 ice teas and the coupon(for $ 8 off) lunch was just under $ 10(not including tip) and is a super value. They also serve breakfast all day which we will try next(with a side of the mac salad — soooo good). Definately a go to place.

It is all about beach Hut #2. Since I was a high school wahine surfing with my boyfriend, to now this place always deliver. So decadent yes, however when you are at the beach playing sports or just baking in the sun; you need a solid breakfast and lunch to tide you over. My favorite by far is the hawaiian sweetbread that is caressed in this sweet cream butter. It is my favorite part of any dish; as they give it you with everything you order. Morning, total breakfast burrito. Bacon is crisp and delish’. Lunch, gotta have the teriyaki bowl, the sauce is awesome and ask for some extra. This spot is as Hawaiian besides a night market cart off Kuhio ave in Oahu. Growing up in the Hermosa beach scene as a youth, this was the spot not because of the location, but because it was a family owned joint with awesome help. I forgot the one guy who had this mane of hair that made him look like the Hawaiian version of Kip Winger. You know the band Winger whose claim to fame was that song about under age girl love«Seveteen.» Throw in an extra star for that guys’ hair. Mahalo

Great breakfast spot. Fast, friendly service, good food and its location in Hermosa Beach makes for fun people watching. Most of their breakfast specials come with 2 eggs, rice(or hash browns) and sweetbread(or toast), it’s a lot of food and all under $ 7.00. I have no idea what else is on their menu other than the«Shogun» #17(teriyaki chicken). There’s no breakfast-infidelity when I visit the Beach Hut… sort of. I will sometimes have a little macaroni salad on the side. We all have needs. Try the Pog. No, that’s not a euphemism.

I came here this morning with my bf and my son. I have never ventured in here before because I really don’t care for Hawaiian food(too salty and I don’t eat fried) but the other day I decided to look at the menu and noticed not everything here is Hawaiian. I had a breakfast burrito which is eggs, hash browns and choice of meat(sausage, bacon, ham…) and salsa. It was very good. My son had the Haole special which was 2 egg, hash browns, toast and choice of meat. He said the bacon was really good. My bf had the Hawaiian French Toast. It is just $ 4.00 or for $ 1.00 more you can have a side of meat. It was not a huge plate but just the right size. He enjoyed it so much he finished and he does not usually finish. The prices are right and it is nice and laid back.

This little hole in the wall is a local favorite situated a block from the sands! The Hawaiian-style breakfasts are served all day. It’s a small place, so it can get crowded especially during the weekends! During the week, it’s not as crowded so it’s usually a breeze to grab a table. Today, I ordered the Chicken Bowl with breast meat only and a coke. They give you lots of chicken and extra teriyaki sauce upon request. The order also comes with a slice of Hawaiian sweet bread. It’s great to add a couple of dashes of the Sriracha hot sauce to your bowl for that extra kick. I always pay less than $ 10 for a meal so I’d consider this place a good value! I’ve had the breakfast plates in the past and they’ve been equally satisfying. Cozy place with great service most of the time! Definitely would recommend this place if you’re looking for a quick bite at the beach!

Disclaimer — I used to use this tiny restaurant as a haven when I ditched high school so my positive experience may be partially chalked up to nostalgia. That said, I love Beach Hut, heartily recommend the Shogun and think the food and atmosphere perfectly compliment any day spent at the beach.
