After some extensive damage from a busted water pipe in the basement we thankfully found Nelson right here on Unilocal. He came right out the next day and gave us a very reasonable quote for drywall repair and painting. Nelson worked with our schedule to get the work done quickly. His crew was respectful, clean and quick(what more do you need). After the work was completed in the basement we asked for a quote to have all the trim and ceiling painted in the family room, his quote was reasonable and the work was completed in less than 3 hours, just amazing.

After living in a beautiful condo for about 7 years, it was time to make a move. The condo was fine for me, my wife and the dog but add 2 toddlers to the mix and my beautiful perfectly styled condo turned into a holding cell. Fast forward to buying a house built in 1988. Yes, we did. The house was in great shape besides a few things that needed some major help. One of those thing was… POPCORNCEILING!!! If you don’t know what a popcorn ceiling is, go look it up. Its horrifying. I called 3 different companies that advertised textured ceiling removal and refinishing. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a hallway and a rather grand vaulted foyer(19 feet tall) 1. Stalin Pro Painters quoted me around $ 3000 but he kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed that he wanted the liberty to come and go and work when he had free time. He originally told me it would take 2 weeks. After I told him that I was thinking around 4 or 5 days, he told me it couldn’t be done that quickly but he would try. I told him i would give him the job for $ 2500 and he initially agreed until he saw the space. Then he said he wanted $ 3000. I told him I had another quote from someone else for the the same price who seemed a bit more concrete on their timeline. We parted ways until the next morning when he called back and said he would do it for $ 2500. I had a bad feeling about the whole exchange so I told him no thanks. 2. MC Wall Coverings quoted me $ 3500. I negotiated and we agreed on $ 3000 flat. He said it would take between 5 and 7 days. This was somewhat worrisome because of the kids and the living conditions, but we accepted. Our closing date on the house kept getting pushed back so I continued to reschedule and reschedule with Mario from MC. Finally, we closed and by that time MC was no longer available. 3. Fresh Coat of Norther Virginia: I submitted my request on their website Sunday morning and i received and response the next day. Nelson asked if he could come out to measure and provide a quote. He was there by 1PM, sharp, exactly when he said he would come. He measured every space and told us he would have a quote for us later that night or the next morning. Nelson’s quote was completely itemized. Cost per room per step. He broke it down into scraping, drywall work, and painting. It was great to see every single step for each room. He also included the incidental charges like scaffolding. Nelson’s quote came in a little higher than the other two I received but you get what you pay for!!! Especially when it comes to something like the ceiling of your home. Bad work would stick out like a sore thumb. Also, since it was mid-January and he had just reassembled a couple of teams, he cut me a deal if I let them start right away and if i let them put a Fresh Coat Painters yard sign in my yard while they worked. We were completely happy with the price we agreed on and felt so much more comfortable after talking with Nelson versus the other two. Nelson made it seem like it was no big deal; like his guys do this every day. The other two made me feel like they were almost reluctant to take the job. The rest was as pain free as you can imagine. We took the kids to my parents house and let workers have free reign. We scheduled 5 days away because that is what we thought it would take. On day one, we came back later that night to check on their progress. The entire upper floor and foyer were covered from ceiling to floor in plastic. It was like a well orchestrated murder scene. And to top it off, they scraped the whole thing in one day!!! We couldn’t believe it. After 3 days i texted Nelson to ask for a status update. He said«We are all done!» 3 days! He said it was because we were out of the house and he was able to bring 3 guys in to knock it out. The ceilings are beautiful and we couldn’t be happier. It was a little dusty for a couple of days but that is to be expected. After a little dusting and swiffering, we were all set. We are very satisfied and impressed customers.
