Bistro 127

This gross place doesn’t deserve a review. The food is actually a step below bad, it’s dangerous. The «cook» should not be working in food prep. Maybe the next owner will have some some since; the current one only spends money on décor, none on staff, training, or food quality. Out of fairness to fellow business owners I have never used this word to describe a restaurant: Dump. Avoid at all costs, let this place die.

Atmosphere, setting, food and wine are good. However, don’t go for one on one conversation, even at lunch. I am sitting here for a late lunch trying to have a conversation with someone and the piped in music volume along with bartender pounding a knife onto a cutting board like a construction worker to dice veggies… and I need a freaking bull horn to be heard.

My husband and I went to Bistro 127 a few weeks ago on a Friday night. We were seated right away, which was very nice. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a romantic vibe. However the service was average and the food was just ok. My husband ordered the lobster mac & cheese that was lukewarm when it came out. My Cajun Chicken Alfredo was really good. I had a sangria that tasted a lot like grape juice, and my husband really loved the pumpkin flavored beer he ordered. Our favorite part of the meal was the dessert, which was a brûlée cheesecake. The only bad thing about the dessert was that it wasn’t big enough for the two of us. Overall we had an ok experience. Unfortunately we weren’t impressed enough to want to return to the restaurant.

In from Arizona to visit family and found Bistro 127. We were a big group of 8 and everyone’s food was outstanding. Love the menu variety and there was something for everyone. Burgers, pizzas, and the Pork Cubano BBQ sandwich was outstanding! Make sure you order their fries too. Regular and sweet. Yum! We will be back

Went here last night with a large group of 50 folks and found both the service and the food to be lacking. They only had 2 servers for the entire party so obviously there were issues. Ordered a beer, server forgot the beer, ordered beer again and finally received it. They were really hustling, but with a group that size at least 4 servers were needed.
First up was the salad with orange vineagarette, which I found way too orangey and not very tasty. It was so strongly flavored I assumed they flavored it with some kind of «orange flavor.» They also dropped off some pretty good rolls at the table, but they only gave the table of 10, 4 rolls so we shared.
For my entrée, the husband and I both ordered shrimp and grits. We both found the dish severely under seasoned, but thank goodness we had our travel Maldon on hand to season appropriately. Portion was also small and I was left hungry afterwards. The shrimp were tasty though, but a couple of our shrimp were not cleaned. Eww.
Atmosphere was charming, with a cute patio. They also had a pizza oven, which intrigued me to give them another shot to try one, but since we don’t get out to Hickory much I doubt we will be back.

This is the second time my husband and I have been in this establishment. The first time was not bad at all, so we decided to try there again. When coming into the restaurant we were told to wait because the restaurant had been slammed. Both of us looked around and only two booths were seated as well as three tables. Once we were finally seated the waitress took our order promptly and brought our drinks to us. Later when we ordered she had to come back and inform us that they did not have the ingredients for our pizza we ordered and asked if we wanted a substitute meat. We substituted the pulled pork for smoked chicken. When our order came out the pizza was still doughy and the chicken was really smoky. Needless to say don’t go here around 8pm to order food because they are either out of food or it’s not good.

Very friendly, food was fast and delicious and coffee was excellent! Opens at 8 am instead of 7 (as it says on Unilocal).

The is probably my go to restaurant, food is always good from Pizza to something special they can make me happy.

Not that impressed with the food. I will give it a second chance. Been sick and still on antibiotics, so maybe that had an affect on my taste buds. Hubby liked it.

We loved the atmosphere at Bistro127. The food was fresh. We loved the bacon wrapped dates and freshly made pimento cheese. The fried fish was not to heavy and the basil tarter sauce was amazing. We would highly recommend the house dressing for your salad. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in Hickory.

My coworkers and I had to travel to NC for business and was recommended this restaurant from someone local. We have now been here over 6 times and have yet to be disappointed. I highly recommend the Airline Chicken Breast, filet mignon, buffalo wings, pimento cheese appetizer… pretty much everything we’ve had is FANTASTIC! The service is great. They are friendly and not overbearing. Huge plus is ½ off wine Wednesday! I’m from San Francisco that has the some of the best restaurants and this place is up there with the best!

Three stars may be a stretch. My wife and I have been coming here for a while and the food is pretty good. The service is hit and miss and the bartenders at Bootleggers Saloon (which is the bar) are inattentive to say the least.
I hope they get better or we won’t be back.
And they are closed on Sunday’s

I am kicking myself for not trying this restaurant sooner.
The décor strikes me as interesting. Piano. Bar. Nice veranda. Upscale clientele. Think country club atmosphere, and you won’t be far wrong, although it is not that fancy.
I saw that they had a Cubano sandwich on their menu, which I love. I haven’t had a good one north of Miami… until today.
The sandwich was made with in house smoked meats. The menu listing is as follows: Pulled Pork Cubano · our smoked pork, tangy NC BBQ sauce, made pickles, provolone, bacon $ 7.95. I substituted French fries for potato chips, for an additional $ 2, but it was well worth the price.
Pulled Pork Cubano?
At one point, my inner voice spoke these words…“Damn, this is really good!” Sorry for the language, but that’s what I heard. LOL.
The nicely toasted sandwich was chock full of smoked pork, sweet pickles, provolone, BACON, and mustard that I could finally taste. It was a symphony of flavors. It was BETTER than the Cubano sandwich that I had at the Versailles restaurant on Calle Ocho in Miami!!! No, I’m not kidding. I liked it… a lot. The price was a bargain. I will definitely order this again. 4.5÷5
The French Fries?
Hot. Properly crispy. I added salt to the ketchup, so everything was perfect. I ate every one and enjoyed every fry. Good stuff. ⁴⁄₅
Service?
Matt E. provided me with the best service that I have every received from a male wait person in my entire lifetime. He was well spoken, friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. He called me «sir,» which I really appreciated. He refilled my Diet Coke at least three times, and he provided me with a to go drink for the drive home. Matt E. received a 33% tip, and a handshake. I was really impressed with this young man. ⁵⁄₅
Cost?
I will definitely be back!

I have been back a few times since my original review, and each time I am coming away with a little less sparkle. Each time I feel like I’ve paid more for my food than it has been worth.
This last time was the worst, unfortunately. They served a Caesar salad, made with greens that were not Romaine. (I understand running out, but to not advise the customer! I would have made a different choice.) Also, it it maybe because of the change in the lettuce, but the amount of added bacon or ham, drowned out any Caesar taste. I was salty for the rest of the day.
As you may see by prior pictures, they have a GF pizza, but this last time, they served a «lunch portion,» which was not very appealing.
The burger and fries was O-​K. I can get a comparable burger at Ruby Tuesday’s and enjoy a full salad bar for less $$, than to pay for the burger/​fries, and then pay extra for a skimpy and unappealing salad.
As time goes on, when I consider going here, I think, Nah.

Best pizza out there. Love it. Also I would reccomend the pulled pork Reuben absolutely delicious! For a good price as well.

This is more «miss» than «hit» in the dozen or so times I have been here. They were better in there old location. One instance I tried unsuccessfully for 20 minutes to get waiter’s attention for bill but he ignored me as was «catching up with old friends». Made an estimate in cash what the bill was and he chased me out to the parking lot because it was 32 cents short. Where was that hustle 20 minutes ago?

Came here because of the great ratings but was extremely disappointed with the food! Ordered the lobster Mac n cheese and my husband got the shrimp n grits. His food was extremely bland and my lobster Mac n cheese tasted like it was made 2 days before, sprinkled with cheese and microwaved to warm it up. I know it was microwaved because what little lobster there was was dry as a bone. To add insult it was served in a small clear salad bowl, wth! Couldn’t even find a plate for my food. Waste of money and time, smdh.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Pizzas and salads are available in smaller lunch sizes although the mixed green salad was so good, I wish I got the larger portion.

I’m not sure why this restaurant is listed as «vegetarian.» They offer food with meat…
I love this place! I always feel good after eating here. The food is clean and the service is great!
And, the fact the owner is always coming out to serve or talk to the customers is a plus!

A group of us went in for business dinner on week night. I liked the décor and the ambience but was not impressed with their food. I heard their known for their tapas so got a few of them. I sampled the vegetable spring roles and fish tacos — they were average.
I got the salmon and it was fine. But honestly, I have had better salmon in other places.
Drinks — I had cappuccino and I am a bit disappointed that they are served in more smaller coffee cups. I love my café so i had to get two. For end of the meal, i got flavored hazelnut cappucino and it was served almost cold. My neighbor got it hot though… food quality was inconsistent for the same item. Hmmm…
Pros — Service was good, our waitor had great hair and was friendly/​attentive :)
